I did this job on our 2012 Highlander last year. It was at 160k on the original plugs. It’s really not hard to do. You just need to be slow and methodical. I also replaced the PCV valve and cleaned the throttle body since I was in there. Also replace the intake plenum and throttle body gaskets when you reassemble everything. And if you’re like me and got a check engine light when you started it, don’t freak because you probably left a vacuum line disconnected. I forgot to re-attach the line for the brake booster. The only issue I had was breaking a couple of connectors so I had to replace those. Shop and dealer rates for this job are crazy expensive. Also remove the cowl as it makes it much easier to get back there. Also put some shop rags in the intake so nothing falls in there and down into the engine.

lol same got a check engine light. left a sensor unplugged. i'd say it was a fun job tbh. I don't mind tedious jobs I just want to be able to get through the job.

Thanks man I was trying to use a swivel extension with a ratchet but there was no space. You made it look easy. I was wondering why other UA-camrs didn't use that wrench I wasted time using the swivel.

This video was perfect!!! It didn't make it seem "easy" like some videos when they don't show the rest of changing spark plugs.

Bro this just saved me so much frustration. This is actually the 2nd time I've done my plugs on my camry but it's been a while and I couldn't remember exactly where the hidden bolts were. Thanks so much for this! 💯

A rag over the intake minimum. I did this job with a rag over the intake worked ok. I also did the injectors because they were right there... I stupidly removed the rag and dropped an o-ring right down number 6 I was super lucky borrowing a scope and using the hook fished it out. If I had to do it again I would use wide painter's tape over the open intake until right before putting the manifold back on. Made a 4 hour project a 6 hour project thank goodness the valve was closed. Some say it wouldn't be a big deal thar the oring would burn up but every time my wife took off I would be worried. Minimum put a rag over bets to tape over with painters tape.

oh my god thats so scary. You got very lucky. My suggestion next time would be to never be lazy when working with things that can go south very fast. Take time and cover it up properly. If you're feeling frustrated or stuck, take a break and come back next day. It's better to do the job correctly, later than mess something up trying to do it fast.

Just did this job on a Lexus. The only tricky part was figuring out what combination of extensions and wobbly joints to seat the socket on the plugs. I used painters tape to lock the extensions and to secure the plug to the socket for hand turning.

If you price parts on 3 to 4 different dealerships , there prices on parts are different, and wants you get a price list that you like , your regular dealership will match the lower price you have , I saved $ 1200 in parts doing that . Good luck. Thank for the video.

Thank you for this video. As mileage durable as Toyota engines are they sure make this a mofo of a job for a fairly standard maintenance item. 😢

Wondering about changing the valve cover gasket on the back since you have it opened already. Nice video. Thanks.

Can I ask why you did not remove the wipers in that plastic piece underneath the wipers

Great video, but just throwing this out there… on my 2011 Sienna you need to remove the bolt that goes into the plenum itself on the passenger side

Should injectors be changed too? At 167k miles and the PITA to get back there. At least # 1,3,5

Removing the throttle and putting back. I put everything back together and check engine light flashing what maybe could I’ve done wrong? Feels a bit rough at idle.

Either one of the gaskets rolled on the intake or one of the connectors for the coil pack broke and it is loose.
