    Hey, Alberto! I have a Cornford MK50 which is super loud and I am considering buying the Torpedo. Is it good to make the amp playable at living-room levels? Thank you !

      Hey Rodrigo, Brasileiro? The attenuator feature on the Captor is awesome and really handy to tame a loud tube amp. The issue is that it does not have an attenuation level control, so you are fixed to -20dB, which may be too much or too little depending on your amp or situation. If your amp has a master volume, then you have a little more room to play with it, but otherwise I'd probably recommend some dedicated attenuator with a level control. The Victory V40 is about 42W and I play it in my apartment with the master volume on 5-6 using the Captor. This is great for my use, but for gigging for example, it would probably make the amp way too quiet. To me the main selling point of the Captor is the option to record the tube amp quietly or silently using impulse responses. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions. All the best!

    Hello Alberto. Looking to get either Captor 8 or Captor X. Saw your comparison video as well. Do you find the X to be an upgrade in terms of sound? Or just added features. I don't play with a band much nowadays so home recording is what I am after. Cheers & keep up the good work. Subs coming your way 😎👊

      Thanks for the comment and support! In terms of sound quality, there will be no difference. The technology behind the Torpedo Wall of Sound computer plug-in and the Torpedo Remote App is the same and Two Notes is now calling it DynIR. The functionality is very similar, but the second is designed for smartphone/tablet and has some new features like the double tracker. Most new hardware features in the Captor X are the DynIR loader, Bluetooth, MIDI, Stereo Out, and knobs to control things "on stage" that you can control at home via the software, so for home recording there's not much advantage. The main advantages of the Captor X are that you won't need a computer to play using the DynIRs and that it comes with more cab models. Each additional cab is like 5-7 USD/EUR and they make bundle deals sometimes, so you can easily try out cabs and extend your library. Check the list that comes with the Captor, but it's quite versatile already. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions

      @@TheBedroomRocker1 Wow, thank you for the in depth reply. I like the features of the Captor X but dunno if it is worth the extra buck to be honest. For gigging this would be a life saver probably but then again how awesome is it to have 6 different presets with just a knob?! I guess it comes down to what I can afford. 🤔

      @@RiffLair Yes... I think the additional features are totally worth it. It comes down to whether you really need and can afford them hahahah like I said, for home recording there is little difference, but the Captor X is more convenient, have more cabs, it lets you just play/practice without a computer, and if you ever start gigging again, then you're ready and set. I choose not to upgrade my Captor and it does everything I need very well, but if I was gonna pick one today and I had the extra cash, I'd probably go for the X just for the convenience, versatility, and "future-proofness"

      @@TheBedroomRocker1 Thank you very much for helping me decide :P I could buy a Vox AC15 with that money but oh well.. I wouldn't be able to crank it anyways. I guess I need it to get me a Captor X. Rice for a month!! Woohoo... hehe..

    Hi Alberto, thank you so much for the lovely demo. I am seriously considering to get one of this bad boy for practice. Can you please help me explain how can I silently enjoy all the goodness of tube amp using my headphones only without having to hook it up with sound card if I am not intending for recording. Thank you so much for doing this.

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1  3 роки тому +1

      Hey thanks for the comment! That won't be possible with the Captor because it doesn't have an in-built IR loader nor headphone output. You should look for a Captor X, which add those and many other cool features! I've made another video trying to explain the main differences between them, but basically if you don't want to hook-up a computer and audio interface, you should go for the Captor X. I hope that helps! Cheers

    Hi there, thank you for this great video! I have the same amp and I’m interested in getting a torpedo captor as well. I have a couple of questions I hope you can help: 1 I see you use a Captor 8 but I was thinking to use a Captor 16 with mine since there is the option, are there any difference you think or it will be completely the same? 2 have you ever used the same setup but recording a bass (and of course bass cab emulation) and did you have good results? Would you be confident to say (comparing this method with analog cab miking) that you can get a realistic amp sound? Sorry for the long comment

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment! There should be no noticeable sound differences between 8 and 16 Ohm Captor. Since the V40 has both 8/16 Ohm options it does not matter, but if you have other amps with fixed output impedance, then consider getting the one to match that amp.
      I do not own a bass amp, but I have plugged my bass into the audio interface and used AmpliTube for an amp simulation and then the Wall of Sound plug-in for a bass cabinet simulation. This worked very nicely as well! I think it's probably better than the amp sim I got directly from AmpliTube.
      I am very confident to say that this set-up works as good as an analog cab miking. You obviously do not get the feeling of standing close to the cranked amp, you listen to it in headphones or monitors, and it is a mick'ed amp sound (different from the actual amp in the room). But in my case recording with the Captor and Wall of Sound is actually much better than miking the cabinet. I have a small room (cannot crank my amp with my 1x12 cab), no sound treatment (shitty room sound with reflections) and also cheap microphones and preamps (the t.bone and Behringer stuff). Not to mention that I have no clue how to mic a cabinet in real life, so every time I try to do it, it's a lot of trial and error... By using the Wall of Sound, I get instant access to 2x12s and 4x12s cabs placed in a professionally treated studio rooms with microphones like the Royer R-121, which I would never be able to afford.

      The Bedroom Rocker Thank you so much this is really precious! I’m actually saving money for the Captor X to have more options in potential live situations and I’m so looking forward to use it! Thanks again

    Hey man, great video! Wanted to ask, have u ever had any loud squealing noises when using pedals with the captor? I have big problem with it and it just doesn't seem to get better unless I walk over 6 feet away which isn't possible in my small flat

    • @TheBedroomRocker1
      @TheBedroomRocker1  4 роки тому

      Hi Nick, no I do not have any weird noises with the captor. What kind of squealing noises? Are you using loads of gain? Does the problem only occurs if you use pedals, which pedals? I'd try to reproduce the problem using different guitars/amps/pedals to see you can narrow down the possibilities. If you really think the problem is the Captor, you should contact TwoNotes and maybe send them a video showing the problem.. they have a pretty responsive customer service. Also try their Facebook page. They answer pretty fast there and sometimes other experienced users may also help.

      @@TheBedroomRocker1 I worked out it was me asking to much of my setup, it's all crammed in a 1m space and then I slam my amp with high gain pedals stacked and it goes wild and realised it most likely because I am too close to everything and my pickups are causing feedback. It's just a pain because I live in a small flat and that is basically my only option
