I will agree that playing subs in Asymmetric battles is a great way to build basic skills. With so many extra ships you have to have a plan for how to get out or you just die. In that way, it trains you for randoms because once a sub is spotted I expect that flank to crash down its ASW. Also, the experience numbers from Asymmetrics were off the charts for me. As an olive branch to the BBs, subs are really good to pair with on the map. You go about the same speeds, the BB keeps the CVs away from the sub and the sub can handle DDs trying to creep up for a highlight reel. Playing with DDs, I usually shoot with DD torpedo spreads with adding my homing torpedos to the flanks of the spread. Then it's possibly ping to cause decisions. Get rid of the ping or hope your torpedo beats are on fire and get rid of flooding. It makes a bad situation nasty.
If I had to tell new players which coal ship to get first, I would probably tell them to pick up something like October Revolution, Kirov, Lazo, Flint, or Hill. Each of those are good starters for what kind of ship they are, and only one (two ig) have a real 'gimmick' to it (Lazo with the spotter, Flint with smoke, sort of, since Jinan line exists now). Maybe OR can be a noob trap, but Kirov and Hill are still excellent trainers for cruisers and DDs, and I would caution newer players against going straight for high tier ships. For more experienced players (i.e. have ground to T10 at least once, probably have around 1000 battles), I would highly recommend Napoli, Black, Neustra, Moskva, Salem, Napoli and Marceau for competitive modes, Yoshino, Brisbane, Sherman, Agir (Agir can work in both comp and randoms, it's just a bit of a playstyle difference), Tulsa, Polo, and Pommern for fun/moneymaking. Ultimately however it's down to them to spend their coal wisely.
Good list of suggestions there. My first coal ship on my EU account was Lazo. Good little ship, fits my play style and was nice to earn credits and train commanders. That list of tens is good too, most folks wouldn't go wrong choosing those, tbh. The order of purchase is personal preference really. Thanks for watching!

Okay, Clyde, back again for advice. I have decided my next Coal purchase is a Tier X destroyer. I have been grinding the Swedish half of the Euro DD's, now have Skane; I am enjoying the line and learning better DD tactics. I am enjoying Le Hardi and L'Aventureur from the new French line. When possible I use the ELSR tactic from KotS, but those situations are harder to set up. Soooooo, Khabarovsk and Hayate are leading my list after completing a spreadsheet (he he). A good toolbox, HE is very good, the torps are great and the Reload Booster makes her the best Torp DD of the set. I like the fact that you get some of the Shima and some of the Hugo in her . . . I think it could work for me. Your thoughts? Is there something about the DDs I am not interested in that I am missing?

The Hayate seems like a good hybrid of the two Japanese lines. Never considered Khaba but I watched your Coal ship review again and some of Sea Raptor's play; even nerfed she seems powerful. I'm gonna play those two playstyles in a few of my DD's . . . The high speed running/farming is my Pan-Asia cruiser play-style, and that intrigues me as well (As does Khaba's Super Heal.). I'll review the videos of Bazan as well. Thanks again, Clyde. Keep up the great work!!!

Okay, I now have the coal to purchase a large cruiser. Yes, I've decided upon a larger cruiser, basically Agir, Azuma, Carnot or Yoshino. Why? I am looking for something that can be used like an Alaska (which is unavailable and I was stupid and didn't buy a Alaska B!) Thoughts? Which one gives me psuedo-Alaska?!

Azuma/Yoshino aren't as tanky, they're a bit more accurate (IIRC) and can play at greater range. They don't have radar and can't bow tank like AK. Carnot likes to be mobile, which isn't very Alaska-y either. Strangely, the T8 Congress is the closest available ship to Alaska, but at the wrong tier and it costs money. Agir might be the closest, but I wouldn't consider it an Alaska alternative. It's just a different ship.
@@ClydePlays Oddly, I got the Congress out of a set of 4 festive packages back in December. I'll keep thinking and comparing and (cough, cough) do another, more inclusive spreadsheet. I don't need to spend that coal today. "Last time we did this it was a 4 hour stream" how did we still do 3.5 hours and not do anything below 9s? Yikes. I swear we need to do an onscreen timer and each get a minute per ship!

I guess wows is my job , but you have fun on what ever least efficieve ship you like ;)
Russia buffed Hiyate with giving both options of smoke and reload booster. Would make it way better if we got it on the main servers. Love your work Clyde. Again you deserve a lot more subs for the work you do sir
You guys talked about it loosely. Idk if you have a stand-alone video. For credit farming first coal ship. Carnot, argar, pommern, azuma... Maybe save for the black so i could also play ranked. What are your thoughts? Im playing the french cruiser, russian crusier and german secondary battleships. I kind of gave up on the French because it doesnt have radar...
Pretty much any tier nine premium has good credit earnings. Honestly the best one to get is the one that you'll enjoy to play the most - which comes down to personal preference. For me, from the list you gave I personally would like the Black the most but that's just because I like DDs. Pommern is probably the most popular of the others. Whatever you get, let me know how you like it!
When I was first playing. Georgia and Thunderer (both coal) were going away, I used the coupon for one and had to use all my steel to finish out what was lacking. No regrets because circumstances, but not once since. Good vid.
With Thunderer on it's way out, it was clear to me that it was too desirable and important a ship to let slip past. I did the same as you... I used some steel so I could grab it in time. I also agree with these two players that sometimes, just in general, it might be sensible to supplement coal with steel. For one thing, more interesting ships have been released for coal in the past year, and the steel ships had been getting a bit long in the tooth.
Looking at a Tier IX myself . . . really tough because there are some good choices hmmmm but for me no standout. Agir is an obvious pick for me, but the Carnot is starting to peak my interest. Iwami is on my list, but the acquisition of a Bajie out of the Level 20 Battle Pass packages kinda makes Iwami hmmmmmmm a bit less interesting. I never thought I'd say this, but, Kearsarge is now interesting to me; NC guns and rocket planes hmmmmmmmm . . . Thanks, guys, these types of videos are a must for new players (6 months) and the two points-of-view helps a ton.
@@ClydePlaysI will say that I wish Wargaming would give us a half-a-dozen or more choice Tier 8s and a few more Tier 7s. That gap can be frustrating for noobs who do not want to run for the Tier X monsters and work up the tiers to gain skills and experience.
Neustrashimi or Dauntless (that's the meaning of it), is a hidden gem. I started playing it for fun and it became my favorite ship in t9 ranked, I now feel weak if I am not in this ship... 4501, which I recently got and played has one of the best things on a submarine in-game, and that is 38kn underwater speed. Now the real reason this is too good in my opinion is because you can freely PING and run and no ASW will hit you. In my first game I had 200k damage almost and was not hit by a single ASW the entire game...
@@SynexcuYou are correct - though Azuma was formerly available for FXP, which is what Anthrax is referring too, I believe. Today she can be obtained for coal.
Malta is a nice carrier for cv players that know how bad the Tier VIII and Tier X Royal Navy cv's are. So it is great for ranked, random and events. I play a mix of lines in any case but the Malta definitely filled a hole.
I was watching it with subtitles and when it came to the submarine u4501 part, the subtitles did not come yet, can you explain it for me in a few sentences? Is u4501 worth buying? What are the bad and good aspects? THANKS 😇
Hey! I'll try to give a quick summary. - Very fast when submerged! - Hull repair! (Only usable in the surface) - two torp launchers to the rear and one to the front - kinda weird - pretty stealthy when surfaces, if I remember right I find 4501 different to play than most subs. I don't have the tier ten tech tree subs yet though. She's probably worth it if you like unique ships and subs. Hope this helps!
IMO Tulsa is not a bad ship, but the big downside is the six guns. If it had been released as a 8 gun ship [2 twin forward and 2 twins aft] it would play more like a T9 cruiser and be much more comfortable to play. Six gun 203mm at T9 is not good enough.
Okay, still haven't pulled the trigger yet. I am a light cruiser guy at heart but have been worrying that higher Tiers made it difficult for CLs to survive . . . . . . and then I picked up the Harbin a few days back (Harbin?! BOO!). Harbin has re-awakened the joy that I feel when I throw around a run-and-gun CL (Colonel Bolognesi, Ignacio Allende, Rahmat, Abruzzi). Sooooo, Brisbane, hmmmmmmmmmmm. I think my Harbin build would be perfect for Brisbane hmmmm. So, what are the differences between Tier IX and X when it comes to EC accumulation? I hear (from you and others) that Tier IX is best and Tier X is costly but I cannot find a WoWs page or a chart to show me numbers (i likey da stats). Any info would be appreciated, as I don't need another EC sump . . . I am grinding towards either Cherbourg or Charles Martel as my next standard ship, and that's gonna cost me!
EC is earning credits? Yeah there isn't a WOWS page that explains the credit earnings, sadly. That seems to be a secret WG keeps, though they do tell us that T9 ships have enhanced credit earnings - others have (probably?) done studies on this, but I never have. Brisbane is fun if you like light cruisers.... She does have nice torps and good DPM kind of like the Pan Asian ships, but remember! No smokes! Good luck with whatever you choose. Edit: here is the page on service costs for the ships by tier, but IIRC it doesn't cover ship earnings, just costs: wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:The_Economics_of_Battle
That page has more information than I have been able to find . . . that one chart helps a ton.@@ClydePlays Hmmmm I'll do a few tests in the Harbin and then in the Encounter and review the numbers after battle . . . that'll show me something. Thanx, Clyde!
Both are good ships with differing play styles. For randoms and ranked, Salem is probably more fun - for clan battles, you'll find Moskva to be reliable. Might be worth looking for reviews or gameplay videos on these two ships to see if they suit your play style.
to me the IX black is a copy paste of the VII Flint and weent from a cruiser to a dd. if you check there main stats they are identical. the Black only sits a little lower. but for the most part its a flint im not complaining very fun ship to play. unless you run into a somme or a gdanks. when i used help make the skins of the ships for some modders instead of paying me they would gift me ships . so that i had a shifp to to make the the skin for .
Back at it, buying another Coal ship . . . . Have Tulsa, Brisbane, Napoli, Khaba, Agir and Kearsarge. I would like a Tier IX for the economics, Tier X's make me almost nothing most days but even in Co-ops a good Tier IX Coal ships gets me 300-600k Economic Credits per battle. - BB : Iwami over Pommern for me. No Marco. - CA : hmmmmmm BLAH Azuma or Carnot? I have enough of the large cruisers to know that I prefer a good CA or CL versus a CB. Blah! - DD : Black is a Fletcher . . . I have trouble with the US DDs. I have Johnston at Tier IX and just cannot player her well. The Radar does not change my mind. Jager is new to the list. Meh. Z-44 seems to be the weakest link. Groningen . . . maybe. Neustrashimy is interesting, especially if I can work a hybrid build to make her more shooty, more of a 60/40 or 55/45 split . . . the torps are solid if a little slow to reload. And a REALLY good heal and good toolbox?! I nearly have enough Coal to buy Neustra or Black now. I am saving the Coupon at this point because I am not sure that the 15% Steel Event coupon will get me a PvO. Sadly, there are four steel ships and the PvO that I want to buy, which sucks because Steel comes much more slowly than Coal. Not sure that after this I won't be concentrating on Flags and Modules with Coal.
Iwami and Pommern are fine picks, neither are my personal fave...but that's just ol' clyde talkin'. Azuma and Carnot are both "medium" and not worth panicking over, IMHO. All of those DDs are fun, tbh - even Jager, which is trolling me these days constantly, haha.....Good luck with your choice - if it were me, I'd look at Nuestra, Black, or Groningen....but don't let me tell ya how to live your life. Also - you gotta get into the discord man, people there would LOVE talkin' ship like this with you, and you'd probably get faster responses from me too, haha.
@@ClydePlays I'm on Discord for Warships, but I like advice from people who have played a lot and aren't biased for or against certain ships-lines. Discord and certainly Reddit tend to be the abode of fan boys of certain lines . . . they don't understand my point of view. As far as steel used for coal, be honest with yourself about how you play the game. If you never play clan or ranked and you don’t get the premium battle pass then your steel income is very low. Use your steel to get coal ships in that case. It’s a net gain for you. The coupon is the same way. Be honest with yourself about how you play the game. If you’re not gonna have enough steel to buy a ship in the next 6 months, use the coupon for a coal boat.
It's all good. I make, like four types of videos: news updates, hot takes (ship reviews), deep dives, and long-ass rambly podcast-style discussions (ship show or fireside chats). They don't all speak to all viewers. Some people want to get fast information - if that is your goal this is probably the wrong video, though it is fully bookmarked so you can skip around as desired, heh. This video is for someone who wants to listen to a couple of yokels talk through ships for hours. Probably while you do another task and only sort of pay attention. It's a podcast. From my metrics, these videos are pretty popular (at least on the scale is my small channel). While most people watch the whole thing - a lot of people use the bookmarks to get what they want and get out. I'm cool with any of these ways of watching because I'm just trying to help people with whatever they need. If this video doesn't work for someone, that's okay! There are plenty of other vids on my channel and elsewhere on UA-cam that'll serve them better.
Oddly enough, Clyde put in chapters. So you could simply have looked at the chapter list and gone "Oh, I'll jump to these sections and ignore Clyde being talky talky"

I have majority of ships in Armory for coal , and if I start from 0 , my first pick would be Brisbane , she is great tool for making WG missions .
Moskva for me here.
Played that ship toooo much in comp, CB and Kots.
I just love her.
@@Choukai_Chan Honestly I never spend coal on Moskva , I earned her & GK before those two become coal ships , my first ever coal ship was Salem , but I dont play them at all , I am at the point I have pefected my efficiency in wows , and Moskva is not my first choice for any WG tasks , Salem was for long time , then I got Colbert and she replaced her , now I have Brisbane as my main "do it quick" tool , she can do what ever Moskva can but quicker + have torps , I have 80 T10 but since asimetric battles are on I play 3 ships GK+leg mod , Macklenburg & Pommren wirh 21p Lutjens , I complete 37kxp = 3 crates &BP in 4 battles = less that 1h ... I guess wows is my job , but you have fun on what ever least efficieve ship you like ;)
@AdamMarcinkowski-ys8dk i have about 100 ships and still haven't figured out which is the best moneymaker since econ change. So whatcha got for me?
Yeah, Brisbane does a lot of things that help you with many of WGs missions. She's a decent pick too, provided you like light cruiser play like I do.
Moskva is great. The best part about this game is you don't hafta pick just one. 🙂
T9 Kersarge, Azuma, Neustra.
T10 Moskva, Marceau, Brisbane. But you can take Napoli too... There is only one BB.
Yeah that's a strong list of ships. Thanks for watching Gorazd. 👈😎👈
After watching those RB/Steel/Coal ship shows for a second time, I am wondering if we will ever get a tech tree ship show. I would love it!
I've been planning on this for a while, maybe sometime soon!
Thought that might be too much effort, but great you guys are planning it! Will definitely watch it as soon as you upload it mate. 👍🏻
It'll take some time - but its totally doable.
Russia buffed Hiyate with giving both options of smoke and reload booster. Would make it way better if we got it on the main servers. Love your work Clyde. Again you deserve a lot more subs for the work you do sir
Thanks Brezz. I saw those buffs to MK. Hopefully she makes the list of ships to buff in WOWS some day.
On my birthday, WoWs dropped out of Black from my containers, and now on Wednesday, Black Friday dropped out of Black B from my containers.🤣🤣🤣
Amazing! Thanks for watching our little chat.
Good vid.
Yeah that's a good scheme given the circumstances. Two good ships too.
Wish I had a chance to get thunderer as coal ship. I don't want to spend my coal for kürfurst
Glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with your choice!
@@ClydePlaysI will say that I wish Wargaming would give us a half-a-dozen or more choice Tier 8s and a few more Tier 7s. That gap can be frustrating for noobs who do not want to run for the Tier X monsters and work up the tiers to gain skills and experience.
I’m currently at 517 ships. And more to go still.
Go go go!
I have all of them. That was... so much coal...
Yes. Yes it was. Thanks for watching!
In my first game I had 200k damage almost and was not hit by a single ASW the entire game...
how have you specced it? I love it as well but still switching between builds (torp or gun focus).
I believe this is a Neustrashimy question (I've edited my post). I play it as a torpedo spec but I am not afraid to use my guns :) @@aRchAng3lZz
Yeah that's good I run mine too - I tend to stay more hidden than not, but use the gonna freely.
11:51 I used steel to get Thunderer before it was pulled.
Smart move, TBH.
When was thunderer pulled from the store ?
Thunderer was pulled in patch 10.1 (Feb 17, 2021): wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Update_0.10.1
Azuma was one of the best choice for FXP for newer players. It is by far one of the best credit farmers in the entire game.
She certainly gets it done. Thanks for watching and commenting. I like Azuma more now than before I spent time playing her recently.
I thought ship by FXP is no longer a thing??
@@Synexcu Was. She is no longer available for FXP. After the old Missouri, she was the best credit farmer in the game. Especially for 1M fxp
Malta be strong! She had a couple of adjustments announced today (one buff, one nerf): blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/507
(Only usable in the surface)
- two torp launchers to the rear and one to the front - kinda weird
- pretty stealthy when surfaces, if I remember right
I find 4501 different to play than most subs. I don't have the tier ten tech tree subs yet though.
She's probably worth it if you like unique ships and subs.
Hope this helps!
thanks ❤❤
You got it@@muhamdd.527 !
IMO Tulsa is not a bad ship, but the big downside is the six guns. If it had been released as a 8 gun ship [2 twin forward and 2 twins aft] it would play more like a T9 cruiser and be much more comfortable to play. Six gun 203mm at T9 is not good enough.
Yeah that would be much better. I like Tulsa, but she struggles to compare to other strong T9 cruisers. She's not bad for free thankfully.
Yeah, 6 gun BBs and Cruisers don't do much for me.
That page has more information than I have been able to find . . . that one chart helps a ton.@@ClydePlays
Hmmmm I'll do a few tests in the Harbin and then in the Encounter and review the numbers after battle . . . that'll show me something.
Thanx, Clyde!
What is more worth to spend coal between Moskva and salem?
Both are good ships with differing play styles. For randoms and ranked, Salem is probably more fun - for clan battles, you'll find Moskva to be reliable. Might be worth looking for reviews or gameplay videos on these two ships to see if they suit your play style.
I have Immelman, Tromp, Malta. Next one for me I would like to have their 10 German sub. Great video
to me the IX black is a copy paste of the VII Flint and weent from a cruiser to a dd. if you check there main stats they are identical. the Black only sits a little lower. but for the most part its a flint im not complaining very fun ship to play. unless you run into a somme or a gdanks. when i used help make the skins of the ships for some modders instead of paying me they would gift me ships . so that i had a shifp to to make the the skin for .
The only coal ship worth getting is the Napoli
Soooo....
... how does Scott feel about Khaba...??
LOL
So......he's uh.....not a fan......poor Skada is missing out, I say. 🤣
If I write up a short novella on what I'm looking for and my favorite lines and style of ships, they will likely tell me to buy their favorite ship after reading the first sentence.
- You and SeaRaptor and Carbine Carlito are the three I ask for advice from. Experience and a unbiased attitude mean a lot to me!
Thanx, Clyde.
P.S. : Leaning Neustra, looks like my style
All good man. I reckon my discord has a different vibe than the official one - but I get what you're saying.
SeaRaptor and Carbine Carlito are great dudes to ask thoughtful questions of as well, so I think you've got a decent strategy here haha.
6 years to get every coal there is in the game
Truly a hero's journey. 😅. I think you beat me, took me at least seven years.
This is pretty solid advice.
verbal diarrhea - 3 1/2 hours to add 2 ships to last update
People like to use these videos as a what to get, I appreciated it
It's all good.
Thank you for the knowledge
