  • Hi there!
    My name is Zac Trojanowski and I am a Music Director, Ableton Operator and Guitar Player at Woodlands Church for Woodlands Worship.
    My goal with this video is to give other MD's, Ableton Live Op's and Worship Guitarists a little insight to how I do things and how I operate during a weekend.
    I'm juggling a ton of responsibility in a weekend: Playing, Directing and generally trying to make sure the band and myself stay on track and know what to do and where to go at any given time.
    If you have any questions please feel free to ask in the comments or DM me on my socials and I will be sure to get back to you!

    What kind of controller do you use to fire tracks?

      So in this video I was using a app called LK on my ipad which is awesome but I am currently using the APC40 MK2. As much as I love LK (I used it for years) the APC is just so much easier to not think about and just use it.

    I have played with a click or metronome track since I was a teenager in the 80's so now that it's common to play with tracks it's natural but having to have a voice tell you what part of the song your in is crazy.

    • @zacharytrojanowski1287

      To be honest you get used to it pretty quick. I say this alot but if I was playing rock and gigging clubs and stuff I know for sure I wouldn't have a click and guide or a thousand pedals and a switcher. It all just comes with the territory lol.

      @@zacharytrojanowski1287 it shows that people are so dubbed down now that they can’t even go through a song without a guide.

      @@AllenPendleton eh like I said it comes with the territory. Over all I find that it's necessary in a mega church setting because everything is so on rails all the time. To each their own I suppose.

    Hey Zachary, nice work! I started with ableton (trial but I think I will get standard 11 soon). Yesterday I started with this song my testimony to practise making custom cues for our Worship bands on the ableton click with the original song underneith, cue pack from loop community. How do you run and setup your service?
    I play keys and will trigger them with an 16 pad Akai controller, piano's still from stage 3. Also I like to play in session view and automate a couple of my ableton keys sounds, have multiple scenes per song so that could become 30-50 scenes, but the cues I made in arrangement view.
    Hope to hear from you, you inspire me :).
    Blessings
    Nathan

    Awesome playing! Curious how you manage to have Ableton's click to no accent?

    • @zacharytrojanowski1287
      @zacharytrojanowski1287  2 роки тому +1

      So if you look at some of my recent videos we've actually added the accent back in.
      But it is a simple Google search away.
      Basically Ableton has 2 files which dictates it's click. One accent file and one normal beat file. If you copy that normal beat file and over write the accent file with it. BOOM. no accent.
      I prefer to have the accent but I know some people do not.

      @@zacharytrojanowski1287 Awesome! I'm planning to do actual song (ex. Multitracks) with accent and spontaneous with no accent. I need to find a way to have these both working together :/ Thanks!

    • @zacharytrojanowski1287
      @zacharytrojanowski1287  2 роки тому +1

      @@seungeunha1797 oh dude! All you have to do is change your time signiture to 1/X. So if you're in 4/4 normally. When you get to spontaneous moments just change the click to 1/4. You may have to set that up in advance but that's the easiest way to do that on the fly.

    I'm not a big fan of MD calling the whole song. I miss the days where the everybody 1) Knew/learned the material well 2) had a very good internal clock 3) had great band sense. If you weren't a strong musician you didnt make the cut and those core concepts built better musicians. I get it for production purposes and most churches don't have strong volunteer pools. Not for me. The Track failed one Sunday morning and it was the best service we ever had cuz we stopped doing Karaoke and started worshipping, no ques kept everybody in the zone and not a note was missed. Good musicians should be able to go either way.

    • @zacharytrojanowski1287

      Yea I get that. I don't tend to call every little thing But important things that I don't want anyone to miss. But I get it though. I always say to each their own.

    • @FieroGTXX

      @@zacharytrojanowski1287 I guess with I'm trying to say is: Good musicians use click and MD. BETTER musicians could go either way. Better to have and MD and not need em, than need one and not have it. If there is a musician who is on MD lifesupport and can't function with out them, That's a sign that are weaknesses in their musicianship. And we all know. Weaknesses are simply opportunities to grow. I also feel bad for the MD's who call everything flawlessly but like NOBODY knows what a 6-5-4 in idk "G" is.

      I told a guy "It's the Nashville number systems" He looks at me and says "Nashville? I've never been, heard it's real nice up there though.....". After rehearsal I told the MD, he got with the Bass player and numbered all the chords. 4 months later, he was off sheet music. Not trying to argue. You're right to each their own. But BETTER musicians and do both, and who doesny strive to be better especially as the worship team

      @jonathancook "stopped doing karaoke and started worshipping" ...you must be a delight for your worship leader 😂 Seriously though, get your theology in order instead of spending your time watching videos of people doing stuff you don't seem to like anyways 😅
