It seems like based on how fluid things are, they have a full band and the only track is the click, OR their playback engineer is nuts at his or her job, and is muting synths and pads as needed when the MD is calling chords for those vamps. Either way, that band is really well rehearsed and pro, to be moving with him on chords at sometimes a quarter note's notice.
Practice. Anyone can do this. If you learn to play by thinking on the Nashville number system, it comes naturally unless you don't know how to count tempos and measures...
@@MathViana it's simple. 1 is relative to the key you're playing. For instance, key of G. The 1 is G major. The 2 is Am. 3 is Bm. 4 is C maj. 5 is D maj. 6 is Em. 7 is F#dim.
This guy is awesome, really the whole team is incredibly talented, just in band wise, I think they r the best, not just in Christian music but of all music. Wow just can’t believe all the things tht r going on in his head.

The “and” is used to determine the timing of the chord. The chord is placed on the beat after the “and.” For instance, the chord number then “and” takes the place of a 3-4 count. If I need the 1 chord to be on the downbeat, I would say “1 and” on beats 3 and 4. If I need the 1 chord to be pushed to beat 4, I would say “1 and” on beats 2 and 3. Hopefully that clears it up!
@@EEdwardsMusic yup that clears it up a lot. I just thought it was weird but now it makes full sense. This allows you to announce a chord before its actually needed instead of right on it. (which is something Im working on)
Okay so I have a bit of a technical question. I'm looking for a device I can use to record my in-ear mix with talkback (jack or mini-jack output), but I'd like to do that while simultanioulsy recording video. And I want to do this using my Android Phone, with a suitable app for example. I'm not sure if this is doable though. So can I ask you for advice? What do you use to record? And do you layer audio and video later or is it recorded simultaneously?
It helps establish the rhythm for the chord change. Like counting in 8th notes “one and two and three and four and”. My church’s MD used to be at Elevation and he does it the same way.
Tracks sometimes don’t allow for free roam, such as if they wanted to repeat the first verse after the ending, or leave space open for prayer before going back into the song. These are better vocalized by the MD over a metronome, instead of being controlled by the track.
As a worship leader or as apart of the worship team, you’re using your talents to lead people. It’s not your time to worship, it’s time to lead people.
Here's the premise: The MD leads the band, technically and spiritually, so the Worship Leader can lead the congregation without being as concerned about the band. This way, they can lead freely and flow. The MD gives the band confidence to play together in moments that could be uncertain, or are unrehearsed. WL and MD lead the team hand in hand.
3:50 nick tryna play every note on the fretboard over there
I play lead guitar and MD. This was super helpful. Sometimes I’m not sure how much is to much direction. But this was super clean. #MDgoals.
Keep it basic!
balance is tricky
I think it really depends on the skill level of the band members. Smtimes members with lower skill level will need more guidance/reminder.
Wow. The AI they've built into this tracks rig is impressive.

It really is. So well done in every way.
Make a video about this? Never heard of it before
Most likely full band and the track is just the click
@@ccw39 yeah that would make the most sense

Please don't stop upload more of these Videos!
What I love about this is that the MD doesn't stop worshipping for the sake of doing the job.
Thank you Lord. My father. Hallelujah. Jesus. Name Holy spirit 🙏Amen 🙏
Thanks for using Optogate! Awesome set up!
Thank you for these. Keep em coming!!!
Mannnnn this is awesomeeeeee more of this pleaseeeee
Learned a lot about MD just from this one vid. Thanks.
Hey can you make a lesson about playing rhythm electric guitar in worship context?
Can’t wait for “welcome resurrection”‼️🙌

This is amazing to see! Does the lead singer hear the MD as well or just the track?
Depends of they want it in their mix or not
Everyone on stage has my mic!

Someone help me understand the "and" calls after the chord # ? its not just the time count right? it was a bit confusing especial during 6-5-1 build
The “and” is used to determine the timing of the chord. The chord is placed on the beat after the “and.”
For instance, the chord number then “and” takes the place of a 3-4 count.

How can you worship like this tho
Thats my question too.. I feel like churches are too focused on the musical perfection and not God and lyrics of the song
As a worship leader or as apart of the worship team, you’re using your talents to lead people. It’s not your time to worship, it’s time to lead people.
Thats what people said years ago when drums introduced to worship. Creativity and innovation are from God.
