I am in kindergarten over here..I figured if I watch enough I will learn how to do it...this shows all of the parts so I am taking notes...great video! CJ
Thanks for the video, hope you start feeling better. Just received 4 inches of snow today. Super 1600 vs Super Bowl.....Engine build any day.... Mike IN IOWA
Thank you Darrin and thank you internet/youtube. Exactly the assembly problems that I just have to experience: new camshaft bearing too tight, oilpump too long... What I already learned and this time did right is taking my time and fitting the bearings correctly into the dowel pins. It worked! Is there a video showing the disasambling and asembling of the crank gears? quite hard to without the right tools... Thank´s alot Bjoern from good old Germany
Hey darrin great videos, just a quick question is there a part 2 slash three to super 1600 build as i would love to see more videos of one being built from scratch cheers Brenton lucas from Australia.
Hi great watching your videos, Excellent. Can you mention some man hours to rebuild a complete engine & a total cost of parts. Kind regards Ian. Hope you feel better soon.
What are your thoughts on taping the slot Side of the cam with a hammer lightly against the thrust to square up the bearing and it gives some end play at the same time.stay safe
Hi vwdarrin. My name is Lars and I'm a subscriber to your channel here on UA-cam. I love air-cooled vw's too obviously and have this project going with restoring and mildly customizing a -73 SuperBeetle. I saw this video just now and saw you throw away that dust cover from the new distributor. I simply wonder if you might have one of those laying around (the dust-covers)? My old bug didn't' come with one and I have been unable to find any. Have checked with the Swedish BOSCH-retailers, but no luck. I personally like to have a cover in place. Running without one isn't an option for me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips & tricks with us. Regards Lars
Here's a free tip, if you buy a pulley bolt that is chrome plated, to remove the plating just carefully dip the threads in battery acid, I don't know how long maybe a minute is all that's needed. Be sure to rinse it in a solution of water and baking soda to neutralize the acid.
You know if I was at Orangesburg we woulda had at least 4 videos per run. BTW my buddy won ProMod in the fall in South Carolina, he went around Allan Fore for the win.
can you do a video on compression ratio for me please or send me to a good site that tells you how to find it out or a good video, Please I need the help

As has been ask before, is there going to be a Part 2? Or has that become a pipe dream?
What's the end play on the cam supposed to be?

darrin,where is your shop?
hi Darrin, how can i clean my case?

I'm looking to rebuild for my first time. I have a 1600. What makes the a super 1600 so super or would 1776 be a better choice?
I am guessing they're about the same less the machine work and displacement. Displacement would always be better, but budget makes the difference.
Take care of yourself buddy!
Cool
