I like the artist loft Yes they do bleed trough paper They can blend And for me it’s a good brand for beginners if you want cheap markers :D Also I like the result of the art you made :D
Don't all alcohol markers bleed through paper though? That's one way you know you have full saturation. I'd never use alcohol markers without a blotter page anyway. I wouldn't even say bleed through is a con since all alcohol markers bleed.
I actually just bought some artist loft markers from Michael's. Just 3 grey tones though. I like them a lot. Just don't use them with a sharpie pen. They WILL bleed, merge and mix and look like krap lol.
I personally really like these markers. I wish they had more color options, but that might come with time. If anything, I think they're great for beginners who want to have alcohol markers to practice with before investing in the more expensive name brand.
Just a reminder, you CAN use copic refill inks in any marker. I use them to refill my Prismacolor markers. I'll be trying these to see how the brush tip feels.
Thanks, When I say a particular marker isn't refillable I mean to say that the manufacturer doesn't sell refills for that particular brand, but I should be more clear and mention that in the video because that is an excellent point.
this makes me feel a lot better about buying the artist loft markers lol...I can accept that they won't be as good as or better than copics because sometimes money truly is quality but I think this really is a decent dupe
Thanks for this video it was awesome love ur work, but a quick tip about refilling or just enhancing them u can pull the broad tip out with some small tweezers and just about 10 drops of alcohol helps refresh and refill them pretty good
Great tip! I've motioned it on other videos, I will help get some additional live out of your markers, but its not something you can keep doing after that initial boost.
@@ScottSerkland true , I've noticed it only works about twice just to keep them from drying up and like u said extending the life of the markers a bit longer thx again forbthe videos
I made a mistake and bought these to replace some copics I had from before. The look so similar and I was in a hurry I did have a coupon and a gift card so I saved a ton of money but I was almost disappointed til I saw your review. I’ll give these a chance and be happy to have another set that’s similar.
After working with them a little longer I noticed they start to fray, So I really know longer recommend them, maybe they have improved them and you will have better luck.
On screen at least the colors look less vibrant kind of like when you have chalky water color. Thanks for reviewing them! I hadn't seen anyone else do so, and I'd been afraid to spend any money on them.
There's a link to a set of the Artist Loft Markers in the description for around $48 for a set of 24. You can also do what I did and use a 40% or 50% off Michael coupon to get the five marker packs which usually sell for about $20 without the discount, assuming you have Michael's where you live.
Thanks so much for the review I had no idea there was another side to the loft markers and I was sad because that’s what I expected until I watched this 😃👍
I got some of these for Christmas and I love them of course but yeah sometimes they do fray and I have a pretty light hand :/ but the colors are awesome and it’s got an awesome chisel tip
Thanks, I try to take into consideration all the factors. Copics are Great, but are pretty expensive. Artist Loft are a good marker for the price and one of the few cheaper markers with the brush tip.
Really cool video! The great thing about Michaels at least here in Dallas is they offload artist loft products to thrift stores and non profits on the regular. For example Artist Loft is distributed here in Irving and any excess from the center or Michaels are for purchase at a thrift store for like a dollar a marker. Unfortunately it’s only ever Artist Loft brand.
Hello my friend, have you ever tried Winsor & Newton Brush Markers, they used to be Letraset Brush Markers but Winsor & Newton bought Letraset. I know they are more accessible here in the UK as they are British made and we can get some amazing deals on them in the UK, but I know its not so easy in the US, I believe I may be wrong on that. They are not refillable and they don't have the range of colours like Copic's, but the Brush Tip is far better than Copic's but ultimately the price is so much cheaper you can essentially buy three markers for the price of one Copic, depending where you shop that is, Amazon isn't the best price wise.
I used to Pantone Markers by Letraset way back in the days, but that was over twenty years ago and they didn't have a brush tip. I may have to take another look especially if you are saying their better. For some reason I was thinking the Winsor & Newton markers were close to the same price range as Copics.
The open-stock Watercolour, ProMarker, and Pigment markers we were carrying at Michael's were in the same CAD$7-$8 range as the Copics, so you're probably not mistaken in recalling them to be a similar price. They're probably about the same down there, too. Of the three, only the watercolour pens have brush tips, although I hear the ProMarkers have a BrushMarker counterpart (that we don't carry). Kind of unfortunate, since both the ProMarkers and Pigment markers seemed really nice.
If you go into the actual michaels store, they sell the markers also in singles, they have this big stand and a bunch of colors, and each marker is only 3.99 and because of some special sale going on ( bought mine yesterday Idk if this is still happening ) they took off the .99 cents. So I got 9 for 28 dollars 🙂 pretty happy about that cause I only would have gotten 5 markers for 21 dollars if I had bought a pack they were selling

Thanks for clarifying, I wasn’t sure because I have seen Artist loft markers on sale online on places other than Michael’s. I don’t remember where I got the information but I’m sure it was from a google search.
@@ScottSerkland ok cool ill try to find the list i got a few packs because i cant afford copic but i havent used them yet but judging by the paints ive used and seeing your comparrison, it looks like they compare pretty good
Good morning. Welcome to Michael's! Artist Loft is, indeed, an in-house brand. I actually did a swatch of these when I returned and found out we'd started carrying them open stock. From what I could tell, these were a pretty decent dupe; as usual, the differences are pretty nuanced. We actually got in some 24 packs over the holidays which were selling for CAD$70, too. Those packs are just seasonal right now, though, so they might not be sticking around (whereas the 6 and 12 packs have been around for a while). And like you said, you can get these even more cheaply with a coupon since they're not part of the Daily Low Value program. The quality and price are good, so these definitely aren't a bad choice for someone taking their first steps into alcohol inks. Some of the colours are really good analogues for stuff in the Copic library, too; though since the components aren't replaceable, I wouldn't want to go with them for any long-term staples. Which is unfortunate. That might be the REAL thing Copic has over everyone else right now.
It is a little strange, but considering Michael's online distribution seems pretty spotty up here, I also wouldn't be too surprised if there's simply plenty of resellers around. Recollections, Craft Smart, and some others are also Michael's branding.
One other issue that may be a problem if you have a lot of markers and do a lot of colouring is that the names and numbers on the ends of the caps rub off super easily.
True, I think this happens with some brands more than others. I'm odd in that I don't pay that close attention to the names or numbers of the marker but instead I do a quick test swatch before using a marker on the actual illustration. Once of these days I need to do guide with all may markers that refers to the corresponding name and number for each marker . Must people do this and it seems like the right idea.
I will have to look into those. I will be doing more marker videos, however buying all of these markers is getting expensive so I want to see if some of these companies will send me some markers to review.
Late to the party over here😜, but I wanted to see if you've tried out the Art-n-Fly markers since making this. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe they have the chisel and brush tip combo, decent amount of colors, and are refillable with their own brand of ink refills. I would think the tips could be replaced too if they can be refilled, but not sure. And they might give you free products to review too if you reach out to them. I might buy them myself, but starting out with the Artists Loft first. +Thanks for this review, I just picked up the Artist's Loft Asst. 24pk. and Portrait 6pk. today at my local Michaels, they are having a 40% Off All regular price online purchases and Free Shipping on orders $49+ today only, and if it's in stock at your local store you can choose in-store pickup. My kid wanted Copics, but he's new to drawing comics and needs alot of practice work on his style so I think Copics are something for him to work towards considering their upfront cost😉
I haven't tried Art-n-Fly yet, but they are on my list. Blick Markers are another option that has a brush tip. Artist Loft are a good starter Marker although sometimes the markers tend to fray and it's kind of a gamble as to will they or won't they. Artist Loft could also benefit from having more colors. But I would say if you can get a good discount start with Artist Loft.
@@ScottSerkland Got all 30 for about $57+tax. with the sale today, so at around 2+ bucks a marker I don't mind them for as you said a starter set, they'll work until he's ready to move up to the pros😉 I'll def. check out the Blicks and keep an eye on the tips for fraying, hopefully he'll have a light hand when using them👍
I been looking for an Artist's Loft comparison because I used Artist's Loft color pencils and the pigment on them is so light and hard to use and Impossible to blend with!
Honestly for these since I'm doing a side by side comparison I'm just using cardstock photocopy paper, but there are papers made specifically for marker art. I don't use marker paper too often but the big benefit is that they don't suck up a lot of ink which saves you money on markers, oh and they mix better on marker paper.
They're good as far as cheap markers go but at the end of the day it's all about what you do with it to create a beautiful piece of work. I've been working with cheap Crayola color pencils all my life and you would swear they were prismas by the way I use them.
Yeah, it’s hard to do much with one marker. If you’re looking to start buying more I would suggest starting with greys. Maybe a cool grey 2 ,4, 6 and 8.
Interesting, iv thought about buying some cheaper alternatives to copics but I have decided against it since in the end I’m going to need copics so I’m just buying them one at a time slowly from hobby lobby
Andrew Johnson lucky, my Hobby Lobby doesn't carry any type of graphic coloring marker not even knockoffs, and its the only craft store around where I live. I have to ride for two hours just to get to a Micheals that has Artist Loft.
Alright so i I went to Michael’s and got the artist loft markers too and apparently when I had inked a drawing of my cat who is black when the markers dried it dried in layers even though I never picked up the marker and it ruined my art. It also didn’t blend over another layer. The blender had just erased the top layer. When I tried to mix colors. I’m kind of pissed about that and I’ve been holding a grudge to artist’s loft. I clicked on this video because I’m curious about how they actually compare to copics because I’ve never actually used them. but personally if you don’t want to risk this happening I guess you probably should get copic markers I’d say if you’re really that close to being able to buy the $69 pack of artist’s loft markers I’d say just keep saving up and actually go for the copics because overall they’d be more efficient anyway and I had bought them impulsively bc I had thought that they were copics because they were right next to them. I really hate when brands look exactly the same because then they always get sales the same way the LEBQ Legos do
Thanks for the advice. Sorry you had such a bad experience with the Artist Loft markers. Copics are definitely better markers. You just have to make a much bigger investment.
Thanks for the review! I had been curious about these. I love the MIchael's coupons! The biggest drawback for me is that they are not refillable. I can get a bottle of Copic refill ink from DickBlick for about $5 and refill my marker several times. So my suggestion is with colors that you use a lot of, such as skin tones and grays...get Copics and refill them. Maybe for those colors that you use less often grab a cheaper brand. My main interest was for my son, he wants markers like mine, but I don't want to fork out the cash for Copics. He's a beginner and not that serious about art yet.
The Ciaos holds lot less ink so depending on how much you use them it my end up saving you money in the long run if you opt for the Copic Sketch markers.

The Ciaos holds lot less ink so depending on how much you use them it my end up saving you money in the long run if you opt for the Copic Sketch markers.
That brush nib doesn’t last over time. I have bought some and they will dry out just sitting unused
I've heard that about the Artist Loft Markers. Unfortunately the review is just based on my first impressions and not necessarily how they hold up over time.
8:39 and and and
Sorry, I'm not perfect, never claimed to be.
The artist loft be looking kinda good tho ngl 😂😂
I would recomend Ohuhu markers over all, they are resonably priced and great quality.
As a Michaels customer the can be bought at 3 for 10 dollars and Michael's gives 10 % for veterans
Awesome! Good to know.
“Cahpic”
All this time I thought i got some really bad markers, turns out I'm just a idiot that doesn't know how to use a fricken marker
Really? I'm sure with a bit a practice you can master these markers.
Copics are a bit more vibrant with some colors but as far as blending they compare awesomely!!
After using the Artist Loft for a while I noticed they started to fray so I've switch to Ohuhu as a great Copic alternative.
The markers are great, but the watercolors are crap
I haven't tried Artist Watercolors, but will think twice now.
