Hey Everyone! Something a little different this time. I bought some new gear, so I'm trying out two things in this video: (1) POV style filming; and (2) binaural recording. I really like the POV camera view while I'm testing driving. I usually hold my camera in one hand and drive with the other, but now the camera is attached to my hat and both hands are free. And I'm not so sure I like the binaural recording. That's where I'm recording from two separate microphones giving you 3D sound, but only if you use headphones. I think it works great while I'm driving, but the background noise is pretty unbearable when I'm outside the vehicle. Anyway, I'll keep messing around with this stuff and hopefully get better at it over time. Let me know what you think! Edit: typo
Howdy, great review as always Jerry! The POV works well while driving, but not for the interior in my opinion. Also, small nitpick, but I wasn’t wearing headphones and had my volume all the way up, but the audio was super quiet. Anyways, great review as per usual! Oh, and happy birthday to your daughter!😸😻😸
I was thinking the same thing. I like POV for driving (it's safer too than holding my DSLR in one hand), but I like the "old way" for the interior bits. And thanks for the feed back. I really appreciate it.
Even though I’m not a truck guy i did like your pov review I’ve seen pov’s before and I really like them, anyways I’ve currently got a 2019 audi a5 quattro (awd) as a rental from enterprise i drove it from Baltimore md to cocoa beach fl which is where i went for the weekend then i continued driving onto Fort Lauderdale fl which is where i live. Anyways, happy birthday to your daughter.
Personally, as a truck guy, I’m a huge fan of these new Rangers. I’ve rented 2 of them just like this one and absolutely loved them. I would’ve bought one recently had it not been for a sweet deal on a 2019 Ram 1500. I do wish they would’ve offered at least the 2.7L V6 in these but the 2.3L paired with the 10 speed performs well for the application. I drove one from Winston Salem to Atlanta and averaged 26.5 MPG cruising at 75 so I was quite impressed. This generation Ranger has been around overseas since 2012 I think so I’ll admit it’s a bit dated, but still good overall. I’m curious to know your opinions on the Tacoma though. You ought to give that a try if they have one available.
As a non-truck guy, I totally agree. It's a great vehicle. And I've never driven the Tacoma, but I'll try to find one. I've heard really good things, but they're hard to find on rental car lots. Thanks for the well thought out comment, by the way. Much appreciated.
100 Rental Cars Absolutely! I’ve gotten a couple Tacoma’s from enterprise over the past year but both from an airport location on a slow day when they had lots of choices. Specifically the TRD Off-Road trim. Great trucks, built well, but definitely old school. Which is probably why they still sell like crazy. Still enjoying the new content! It gives me ideas of what to try out next time I rent!
No to POV, huh? Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I might play around with it a bit more, just because it's kinda fun, but I'll ditch it if it doesn't work.
I liked the review but as a truck, you did not mention a few things. I know that all Rangers can tow 7,500 pounds with the factory tow package but I’m interested in the payload capacity. I am leaning towards a Lariat but I can’t seem to find the payload anywhere. Otherwise, good video.
Nice new format!!! I like the Ranger, but being a Chevy truck owner and enthusiast, I prefer the Chevy Colorado, and still feel it's the best in the midsize pickup class.
When making a U turn, all vehicles have a limited turning radius. To say you're "drifting from the lane" is inaccurate. I would have let it go if you only said it once, but you said it at least twice. Keep in mind, you're not renting and reviewing a zero turn lawn mower. BTW, I enjoyed your review.
Really? I wasn't aware. What you suggest I say instead? I have noticed many vehicles can make a tight U-turn. I wanna mention it in my review, so if there's a better way please let me know. And thanks for taking the time to leave constructive feedback. I really appreciate it, because it helps me improve my videos. Cheers!
Not to criticize. But you didn't seem to motivated in this video. Not sure if it seems like that bc you have a camera on your head instead of it in your hand. Just seemed different today.
I was a little thrown off by the new set up. I've been doing the other way (DSLR in hand) for so long that I got very comfortable with it. That's one of the reasons I got some new gear, I didn't want all my review to feel exactly the same. Thanks for the honest feedback, by the way. I may play around with this set up a bit more, but if it doesn't work, I'll ditch it.
Test drove one on two different occasions. Did not like it. Very small inside. The xlt felt very cheap. It was not a smooth drive at all. Weird shudder at acceleration from a stop. Transmission and engine were a bit disappointing. I really wanted to like the truck but the value just isn't there.

The pov is good during the drive but I like the camera hand held during the tour of the in and outside..

I would switch between the POV camera and the hand held one on certain shots, it would make the videos more interesting.

Good review!
All turbos need to be spooled up in order to get the rpms up for boost from a dead stop.
do you use regular gas on it? or you use 91 prenium?
The hesitation might be its waiting for the turbo to kick in. Wish your daughter happy birthday.
i enjoy this new setup keep it up! 👍🏻

I have never been a fan of the Ranger since it came back out. I am not liking the new POV view but that’s just me. Great review tho. 👍🏻

Do a couple more.
Then decide.
It was fine.
Is the slight delay in the acceleration because of the turbo spooling up?
I know i am a little late but, i think you should've taken it on the highway to test out higher speeds, like 65-70 MPH.
I like this style!

Where is the tow hitch? They removed?

Vincent D I’m a GM guy but the A8 transmission issues turned me away & into a 2020 Ranger. Best decision I ever made!

It wouldn't hurt him to hit some squats in between reviews
so why didn't you put it in sport mode ?
I see all these reviews and none of you use the sport mode ......

Agree. The inside of my 2015 f150 xlt has better interior finishes then the xlt rangers. The lariat ranger seems to be on par with my f150.
