When he mentioned that Liverpool won the European Champions League in 2005 he didn't really mention much about the game itself which is one of the most famous games of European football. The Liverpool side that got to the final wasn't magnificent by any stretch, that had some great players in key positions though and the captain Steven Gerrard. Their opposition was AC Milan with some of the best players in the world at every position. Within the first minute AC Milan scored and by half time they were winning 3-0. During the second half Gerrard scored for Liverpool in the 54th minute and by the 61st minute of the game Liverpool scored twice more to bring the score level at 3-3. The game went to penalties and Liverpools keeper Jersey Dudek pulled off some crazy antics, dancing and bouncing around as the penalties were taken causing Liverpool to win 3-2 on penalties. Yes I am a Liverpool fan so may be a little biased, I admit, but the highlights of the game are a great watch especially with how famous the match is.
A correction Daniel. there are 97 victims of Hillsborough. It was for years indeed 96 then in 2021 some 32 years after the disaster Andrew Devine died. The coroner judged his death to be a result of injuries received on that awful day making him the 97th victim. Also often forgotten because of the awful death toll there were 766 injured that day some seriously. There is lots on line telling of the tragedy. It will also tell you how the club supported the fans in their fight for justice and, how players attended every funeral of the victims. I am proud to be a Liverpool fan.
Even though I’m not from Liverpool this stadium and club is amazing. It’s has had such great managers over the years and their fans are so loyal. I only first visited this club in October 2022 and if you do come to England you need to visit Liverpool it’s my favourite City. Also you got the Beatles tours as well to see. Also great pubs and the people are so friendly.
The Liverpool and Juventus had a full scale riot in the stadium, and Liverpool fans were blamed for starting it hence English clubs were banned from playing in European football competitions. You see in the 1970’s and 80’s there was a lot of football hooligans, fights happening every single match day between rival fans, sometimes organised by groups of rival fans. They would meet up at certain places in towns or cities away from the police and have a punch up, but sometimes it would spill into the football grounds. The Hillsborough tragedy wasn’t the Liverpool fans fault, all though at the time the Police and then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher put the blame on the fans. It was the police who opened up a main gate to let Liverpool fans in Hillsborough football stadium to try and prevent a late kick off. The stand was to small for the amount of Liverpool fans that turned up for the game a men, women and children got crushed to death. It took 30 years for the families who lost loved ones one that day to get justice. When the truth came out that the police had made a major f*ck up on that day. Three defendants finally got charged for the day, in South Yorkshire, and that was, former Chief Superintendent Donald Denton, Detective Chief Inspector Alan Foster and Peter Metcalf the South Yorkshire Police’s Solicitor/Lawyer. He was doctoring Police statements. Plus there is a tabloid Newspaper in the U.K. called The Sun, and it was printing faults articles of the incident at the time.
Well liverpool fans were to blame for the crush at heysul as they run at the juventus fans thus causing a crush. And as for Hillsborough yes the police f...d that up but what about liverpool fans turning up without tickets. But hey liverpool are never to blame are they.
@@gangsom Liverpool fans turning up without tickets was pure propaganda from the Police trying to cover their arses. Fans were late due to problems on the roads. The Hooligan problems had made the police forget that they are there both to enforce the law and protect the public. By 89 they simply saw all football fans as criminals and were purely concerned with containing violence rather than public safety.
Every time I hear Gerry and the Pacemakers version of song, or watch the fans sing along with it in the stadium it brings me to tears. And it always always has done.
Would be great to see you react to stuff on the Hillsborough disaster. It has been decades of fighting and court cases for the families to get justice. A hard story to watch but it is a huge huge part of the football clubs history that has shaped what it is today
And also it wasn't really mentioned in the video but liverpools stadium is known for its incredible atmosphere. Liverpool have the most European cups of any English team (the competition that all the best teams in Europe compete in to be crowned the greatest team in Europe). Anfield is known for being at its most intimidating and influential on these big European nights. The fans are often named the 12th man because of the contribution they give to the team. Both Liverpool players and opposition players and managers have regularly labelled it the stadium with the best atmosphere they have ever played at. Two of the biggest examples of these atmospheres are Liverpool v Chelsea in 2005 semi final and Liverpool v Barcelona (an amazing comback). Liverpool went on to win the whole competition after these wins. They are both worth a watch as highlights of the game show the influence of a British football crowd and especially the Liverpool fans.
The Hysel disaster was a major incident, where Liverpool and Uventas fans started fighting with each other. Because of the dilapidated stadium a wall collapsed killing 39 Uventas fans. Liverpool got all the blame,as always, example Hillsborough. They were banned from European football for 10 years, other English clubs were banned for less time.
Also, the Champions League is classed as the same compeition as the European Cup (there was a change of the European Cup's format in the 1990s and hence the name change.) Also when he refers to the UEFA Cup that is the second tier of European club football- the competition for the teams that do not qualify for the European Cup. The UEFA Cup became the Europa League alongside the European Cup's transition to the Champions League
The area surrounding the Anfield stadium is very poor and neglected by the city council, the housing in the area is full of terraced streets but while a poor working class area the people are full of spirit and like the rest of the city they love their club,Up the Reds! RIP the 97,YNWA.
The Heysel disaster was effectively the straw that broke the camel's back after a decade or more of English fans causing trouble abroad. The whole event was one in which anything that could have gone wrong, did. A ramshackle ground, inadequate police, botched ticketing arrangements which meant the fans weren't properly segregated....but in the end, if people hadn't turned up wanting to fight, it'd been a different conversation. For the record, what caused the deaths was that as some of the Liverpool contingent broke through a flimsy dividing fence as trouble began, a swathe of the Juventus fans tried to flee, and unable to get onto the pitch, ran into a retaining wall at the end of the terrace, which collapsed under the pressure. And the game was played with bodies piled up in the car park...

Arsenal have never been relegated and Everton have been relegated once. These three are the longest current running in the top flight, Liverpool promoted in 62, the next is Man Utd they came up in 1975.
Arsenal were relegated in the 1912-13 season. Though they do have the longest period in the top flight (having rejoined in the 1919-20 season through invitation after WW1). Everton were relegated twice, in 1930/31 and 1950/51. They have been in the top flight of English football for all but 4 seasons.
as you know I like to get my Leyton Orient references in and we were promoted to the top flight along with Liverpool the last time they were promoted, we were of course relegated the next but at least we were there once I would not change my team for all the trophies in the world yet as I write this we are 11 points clear at the top of the table and yet there's that that familiar nagging voice in the back of your head saying they are going to throw it all away, we O's fans certainly know how to embrace the suck since 1881 second oldest club in London behind Fulham I discount Palace because you can always tell when someone from south London is telling porkies (porkies=pork pies = lies) their lips move
All teams got banned rom European Competition after Heysel Daniel. Not Liverpool's proudest moment.. Heysel was only part of it. Kind the straw that broke the camels back. English football was rife with hooligans. Even as a Liverpool fan I am not making excuses for their behaviour in Brussels. But the hooliganism was a problem throughout football. There were no English teams allowed to play in European competition for five years.
The Heisel Disaster saw a group of Liverpool hooligans charge Juventus fans resulting in the collapse of one of the stadium's walls. UEFA (the governing body of European football) blamed not just Liverpool, but more generally English football hooliganism for the disaster. Thus all english teams were banned from competing in Europe for 5 years. For any confusion each European Cup Final is played in a prominent European stadium. Hence that European cup final played between Juventus (an Italian side) and Liverpool was played in Brussels in Belgium
As a Manchester United fan again I say “no comment” But yes, I will say, no one should go to a football match and lose their life. Justice for the 97! Like I said before, please don’t fall into the American UA-camr trap of becoming a Liverpool fan! I beg you Dan!
So instead fall into the trap of becoming a man u fan lol. He can support who he wants, there is no "American trap to support liverpool" if anything I know of more American man u fans then Liverpool. Both amazing clubs and he would be lucky to be a supporters of either
