    Lyrics:
I hear the sound of your guitar
Comin’ in from the mystic far
The stone and the gravel in your voice
Come in my dreams and I rejoice
    It’s just your ghost
    Moving through the night
    Your spirit filled with light
I need, need you by my side
    Your love and I’m alive
I’m alive and I can feel the blood shiver in my bones
I’m alive and I’m out here on my own
I’m alive and I’m coming’ home
    Yeah I’m comin’ home
The old buckskin jacket you always wore
Hangs on the back of my bedroom door
The boots and the spurs you used to ride
Click down the hall but never arrive
    It’s just your ghost
    Moving through the night
    Your spirit filled with light
I need, need you by my side
    Your love and I’m alive
I’m alive, I can feel the blood shiver in my bones
I’m alive and I’m out here on my own
I’m alive and I’m coming’ home
Your old Fender Twin from Johnny’s Music downtown
Still set on 10 to burn this house down
Count the band in then kick into overdrive
By the end of the set we leave no one alive
    Ghosts runnin’ through the night
    Our spirits filled with light
    I need
    Need you by my side
    Your love and I’m alive
I shoulder your Les Paul and finger the fretboard
I make my vows to those who’ve come before
I turn up the volume, let the spirits be my guide
Meet you brother and sister on the other side
    I’m alive
I can feel the blood shiver in my bones
I’m alive and I’m out here on my own
I’m alive and I’m comin’ home
    Yeah I’m comin’ home

“'Ghosts' is about the beauty and joy of being in a band, and the pain of losing one another to illness and time. 'Ghosts' tries to speak to the spirit of the music itself, something none of us owns but can only discover and share together. In the E Street Band, it resides in our collective soul, powered by the heart." - Bruce

I have tears in my eyes Bruce. As you said this song is about the "pain of losing one another to illness and time". My dog, Black, died a week and a half ago on the 14th of September. We were inseparable companions, like Calvin and Hobbes. Her death has been a huge blow for me and I still haven't fully accepted the reality that she is gone. I still think that whenever I go back home she will still be there to greet me like she always did.
The day she was cremated I had a dream about her. I was going up some wooden stairs and I see a dog that looked just like her. We both stare at each other for a moment, trying to figure out if we were really who we thought we were, like two friends who stumble upon each other after a lifetime. As soon as we realise who we were, we rushed to meet. She was overflowed with joy, not being able to stay still for a moment, always running around me and jumping. And I? I was whole once again.
Bruce, you do what ALL great poets do, you are able to put into words feelings that we all share but that some of us cannot express. What I felt during my dream was exactly how you described it in this song:
Come in my dreams and I rejoice
    It's your ghost
    Moving through the night
    Spirit filled with light
I need, need you by my side
    Your love and I'm
    Alive
She will always be my spirit filled with light. Thank you, Bruce!

What a beautiful, moving song. Yes, it's about Danny, Clarence and all the other people associated with the E Street Band who are no longer with us, but it's also a meditation on the fact that Bruce is the only remaining living member of his teenage band, The Castiles, and it's particularly in tribute to lead singer George Theiss, who died relatively recently, and who Bruce visited in his final days. "Ghosts" is one of Bruce's finest songs, and a fitting monument to those who have departed.

This song....hit my 53 year old heart the way "Thunder Road" did when I was 17. I wanted to get out. Desperately. The angst of Thunder Road brought chills to my soul. My girl was named Tammy...and I always said, "Tammy climb in" when I pulled to the curb near her home in my 1972 Chevy Nova and we got the F out of there. Ghosts is a reverse angst. The pain of living. The pain of loss. The celebration of remembering what those people meant too us...the lessons we learned. The pain we felt is a distant past to the memories we have from the things that defined us. This is a life pass before eyes video. I've watched this so many times. My heart overflows....with memories of my old pain and how that shaped me into the person I am today. He. Did. It. Again.

Sometimes Bruce Springsteen captures the zeitgeist of who we are. Ghosts, which sounds like the best rock and roll song you never heard, is one of those moments. Listen and remember those no longer here and those who still stand with you.

De Sledge - You have been dealt Fate's most cruel blow. Losing a child is unquestionably the WORST thing that can ever happen to anyone. Suicide makes it even worse, (as if I could be any worse.) We all expect to bury our parents; but no one should EVER have to say goodbye to their child. She is still with you-

And this, my friends, is the power of rock'n'roll, coming from real musicians... Joy, tears, pain, jokes, memories, light... All together mixed in a shot through your heart... An yes, this old man is STILL the future of rock'n'roll.

It took me a couple of listens to realize the greatness of this song. The guy is 71. He is no longer singing about breaking free and being a man and not a boy. He is singing about age and loss and death and he’s still finding joy and triumph. See the guy sitting with Bruce at 0.39. That’s George Theiss. His death is what inspired this entire album. It’s comforting to know that Bruce can still achieve greatness at this point in his career. It’s hard for a legend to compete with his own legacy.

The song brings me to tears , even though it’s joyful! I was in a jazz band for 10 years, when we suddenly lost our leader to an illness. It was very hard to take. We reformed the band recently, and his spirit is right there in the room with us.

71 years young and still sounding good, still relevant. The older I get, the more I appreciate his music. Springsteen (like Mellencamp) never lost sight of why his music resonates with his fans: he writes not for himself, but for us.

This song resonated with my soul - for all those who have gone before us. So much loss this year - you don't have to be in a band to understand the meaning behind this amazing song. It is in my head and won't let go. I lost my son in 2012 in a fire, he was only 24, my only child. I think about him, knowing he is a spirit that lives in my spaces, in my head, in my heart. I honestly can't wait see him on the other side. Seriously one of the best songs Bruce has even done.

I cannot help to think about The Big Man and how, without him, there's a hole that has yet to be filled, but cannot be as big of a presence and part of the E Street Band. It's a sound...vibe....spirit that is sorely missed. Hearing him play and what he added to all those great songs is irreplaceable.

I'm not going to lie...I have an unhealthy obsession with Bruce. This is classic Bruce. A song that makes you smile and feel good from the intro to the closing notes. I love the old footage. Anyone else reminded of We Take Care of our Own on the opening drum sequence? I cannot wait until I can see him live in concert again.
