All the smaller countries like Denmark, Norway, Croatia, Holland , Belgium all play youth players in their leagues from 16 years old. Rosenborg had Nypan at 16 playing v Hearts in Europa League qualifying. The SPL need to make a ruling that every top team must have x amount of youth players in first team squad and must play at least one.
BTW, the players in Dazzlers day were 100 times better than modern day. Players like Gerry McCabe at Clydebank, Ritchie at Morton, players nowadays couldnae lace their boots man.

I have watched football for over 50yrs and the best debut I have seen is Slaney for Motherwell against an Albanian side in a European tie. Game was played at Airdrie for some reason. He was so young I don't think he had hair on his legs 😂

Spot on about the young players.
Our nation has been like this for years. If you are good enough you should be old enough and these players like Yamine Lamal are given the opportunity to flourish.
Fuck he was practically playing first team at Barca by the same time our lads start playing competitive football.
Believe in these guys when they are young and give them the opportunities and coach to allow them to express themselves and who knows how good they can be. The lad Ben Doak is a decent example. Am not saying he’s in Lamals quality but how do we really know as he’s protected all the time. He was injured and it’s sad but a would be absolutely sure he wasn’t playing in the tournament for us - certainly not starting and having the opportunity to light the games up.
Si’s point a good one also. Boys are flying at the point of the Euro final but all they done was clip the boys wings then. Disheartening and probably most didn’t ever kick in the way they could and no doubt that had some influence

The Euro's have lacked a lot of quality, but it's more about the players looking more tired than poor management.
Two groups - Group C (England) and Group F (Portugal) had the best draws from the outset as neither of those could play another Group winner until the SF. What also benefited England was France and Belgium did not win their groups, i.e. should have been a QF, and they both ended up in top half. A flawed system but purely down to some of the 3rd place teams qualifying - had Georgia not beat already qualified Portugal on match day 3 then England v Holland would have been R16 tie not SF. England have had huge luck in the draw, esp with winning their group on only 5pts
