My government keeps pulling and control you on the ground unless it's right up on the throat.
Unfortunately this very hard to keep it up there and while he starts moving around the prongs start coming down and he gets more strength to pull.
Best way I found was to stop every time you pulls and after a while it doesn't do it anymore.

@@apexiv6919yes this is my exact thought I have working in animal medicine and am now a dog trainer and I have seen collapsed tracheas or just trachea sensitivity caused by using different tools like prong collars, chock chains and even martingale collars. Yes I have seen a case where a prong color left puncture wounds on a dog. It could be from user error by the owner pulling WAY to hard on these collars or the dog is absolutely determined to pull no matter what pressure is around their neck. That’s not to say that these tools don’t work for correcting pulling. But you HAVE to have an educated owner and a dog that responds to the corrections. My own dog continued to pull soo hard when I tried using a martingale to train her and it started to cause trachea sensitivity the second I noticed I switched her back to the easy walk I was using. With positive reinforcement I was able to get her to stop pulling. Obviously the easy walk and positive reinforcement training isn’t going to work for every dog but I always start with less and add more if I have to. Prong collars and chock chains are my last resort not the first thing I put on a dog thats been pulling.

And a dog that refuses to stop pulling to the point of choking themselves and coughing on a normal collar can also damage their necks. Like he says, that collar is on the balloon snugger than it is on a dog. Incorrectly using any tool can cause injury, be it construction workers or people with their dogs. Doesn't make the tool bad. @@apexiv6919

  • @LittleLulu86
    @LittleLulu86 5 місяців тому +272

Guys, he’s addressing the specific issue that some people believe prong collars will actually poke a hole in your dogs neck, like being stabbed, causing a puncture to the skin, bleeding, etc. I’ve come across many people who have this belief because they think “oh sharp and spiky” when that’s not the case. He’s using the balloon to show it won’t puncture skin, even though there’s many “sharp spikes” as people believe. When you have a large dog on this type of collar you literally only apply as much force as he’s using here. It really doesn’t take much when used properly. A prong collar is supposed to be used with a quick light snap, not consistent pressure and pulling. However, even with a basic flat nylon collar or harness, when used incorrectly it can cause harm. Could’ve been executed a little better but there are people who genuinely believe prong collars are basically collars with knives choking and cutting into the dog.

I do have a question for ya though, just curious, not trying to be rude, what about the *dog* pulling it, yes I understand how you explained it but if you have a big dog and they pull what about that? He just bounced it around a little and didn't show how a dog would pull on it, especially a big dog. And I've gotten pinched and scratched by one of those collars, plus if you were the dog imagine having that collar on and pulling, it would hurt. That's why they stop pulling. Because it hurts. My mom trained our red nosed pit and didn't even need one of those collars

@@Yayoka-konait’s gonna hurt unless the dog stops pulling. You can train them without prong collar, but it will take 10 times longer which is why people like to use the prong collar method. Dogs, cats and similar mammals have a certain muscle (piniculus carnosis) that allows their skin to be far more loose and maneuverable, so a prong collar is really unlikely to hurt them. These muscles are also why when dogs or cats play fight, they don't really rip each other to shreds.

    • @greygartm4330

Yeah but when it comes to strong big heavy dogs tugging repeatedly on a collar with prongs poking into it's neck
It can cause *severe* inflammation in the skin and in the muscle
It can make dog cough, it can collapse the windpipe and even injure tbe thyroid glands
In more unlikely cases it can also cause injuries of the cervical spine

      @@TomRolfsonthis simply isn't true.
To say this you would have to know for a fact the dog is associating the discomfort of the prong collar with the act of pulling itself.
Research tells us it's actually unlikely for the dog to make this assumption, at least quickly.
Dogs are far more likely to make a visual assumption. The dog may think that whatever it was looking at and thus pulling towards is the thing that caused the discomfort.
This is where we get prong collars actually potentially worsening aggression
This isn't to say prong collars do not have their uses. However it's not likely to work the first time they pull and you should include other methods of communication too.

Man leaves a popped balloon on the ground right behind him and then acts like that balloon simulates anything but a balloon gingerly placed in a prong collar. Grab both ends of that balloon and give it a 60+lb of force pull against it, we can then test how sturdy that balloon is.
The problem with prong collars is most people who use them, use them wrong. They’re also completely unnecessary and not worth the risk because some dogs have no sense of self preservation and will hurt themselves on the prongs regardless of how well the handler knows how to use the collar because dogs that have a prong collar on, have them on because they pull with a good amount of force. As soon as we are on the open field, I let her run free, and with the beeping sound, she quickly gets back to me. The vibration feature helps me whenever she sees a cat, but if you're late, you have to use the shocking feature because once they are in attack mode, the other two functions are out the window, and you won't get their attention.

Sure, because your 40kg large dog weighs exactly as much as an inflated balloon. You must keep in mind that prong collars are almost exclusively used by owners of dogs that are either badly trained or just starting training. These dogs (which are almost exclusively large) have the common trait that because of their untrained minds they have the tendency to pull a lot, putting almost all the weight of their bodies on their leashes. This is what will cause the injuries. Sure, some small percentage of dogs are automatically taught to stop pulling due to the prongs, but especially with badly trained dogs they tend to ignore pain untill the damage is way more severe, thus cutting and stabbing the necks of the animals. Prongs are a crutch of owners who are not willing to put in the time, money and effort required to be a responsible owner. Bouncing around a fucking balloon in a prong collar proves nothing. I can drive my car into a balloon at 60mph and the balloon is fine. Still shouldn't hit your kid with your car at 60mph.

Tends to happen when your using something compressible that weighs nothing, this is like just swinging a prong collar around

The test doesn’t make sense a balloon doesn’t have the same resistance on the collar as a dog would.

Used these for over 30 years. No issues at all. As a matter of fact, they hear the jingle and come running for a walk.

prong collars are harmless when used the right way. for example, they may not hurt a 150 lb dog, but if you use a prong on your yorkie, their windpipe is probably getting crushed

A dog has a log more weight going into the prongs than a balloon does😂

I took in a homeless hunting dog, best dog I ever had and took to training super well… inside. Walks are another story, she wants to be everywhere all at once all the time. This collar was the first way I could get her to realize slightly that not pulling actually helps the walk. It’s not solved but it helped a lot
