    Wow, literally one of the if not the best subaru channels. So glad you mentioned downpipe and intake on 15+ STI isn't a good idea without upgrading injectors, very solid point people miss. Only thing I wish is that you explained why.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  4 роки тому +1

      I've touched on it a lot in prior videos, but the 15+ "makes more power" and caps the OEM fuel system a lot quicker than older models did. Thats why Cobb and a few others do not carry a stage 2+ OTS Map 🙏 the car will run lean, start to pull timing and not be a happy camper 😖

    • @TheeBoss87
      @TheeBoss87 4 роки тому

      Woooohhh! No one ever mentioned that before. I went with MAPs stg 2 kit and there was nothing about upgrading fuel. See link. I new the turbo was a bit bigger but I didnt think it would max the fueling. Do you suggest pump upg too? When he said that in the video I crapped a brick! Definitely subscribing.

    @Ed50482 4 роки тому +1

    Ok not that anybody asked, but for the EJ smart guys out there that are curious.
    That MAP stage 2 tune for the 15 plus STi uses a flat flange down pipe, rather than the bellmouth design used by Cobb to create the ots maps. The mechanical restrictions on the MAPerformance DP allow them to run an intake with it. So if anyone is curious, doing what MAPerformance did, but with Cobb parts will lean the car out. The flat-flange downpipe has a similar design to the oem Downpipe, a wall with two holes, and a divorced section. This barrier limits the turbos ability to spool mechanically because the forces have smaller chambers to escape through, therefore, you run less boost through mechanical limitation. The intake they use isn’t volumetrically larger or crazy less restrictive than the oem version. The filter and piping amount to a safe level of air flow restriction. Cobb on the other hand, the filter is thinner and larger in certain sections that your MAF will notice. Also the Cobb downpipe is a bellmouth design, meaning it’s basically not restricted until you hit the cat. With this you can hit boost targets, but you have the ability to overshoot them as well. Couple this with a Cobb intake on an OTS map and you will run lean due large volumes of air over running what the fuel system can provide. The MAF calibration is 389 gallons a sec for the oem tune, stage 1, and 2 (excluding 1+sf) maps. And it’s damn near 500 for I think for the SF intake calibration on stage 1 lol. Most downpipes you can get are bellmouth. There are a few offerings of the flat-flange design available from MAPERFORMANCE, Grimm speed, and HKS I think.
    I’m not shitting on anyone or what they want but Smeedia is right, you will lean your car out, and the examples you see are either stage 3, mechanically limited or doing it wrong/running lean. It can’t be done on an OTS map and it ends up being that you can’t have your cake and eat it too in terms of mechanical limitation.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  4 роки тому

      Interesting, did not know they altered the downpipe to accommodate for it. I am curious if its even worth buying though. If your handicapping the downpipe with intentions of making more power later on it seems like it wouldn't be a worth while purchase for a short term use of an OTS Tune

    • @Ed50482
      @Ed50482 4 роки тому

      @@Smeedia I wouldn’t recommend it as a temporary part either. The design still provides plenty of room for more power, I was just explaining how MAPerformance makes it work. It’s kind of like, if you’re good with stage 2, there’s a way I guess to have it. But yes, now you’re dealing with mechanical limitation. If you had a flat flange downpipe, use a LWG OTS map. You have to download them from the website though. You are right on all accounts bro, I’m just adding that, we see offerings like MAP that use an intake with a downpipe, but they are doing it a very specific way. The only choke point is up top with the flat flange downpipe versus the bell mouth. The intake provides a larger mesure of airflow but it’s restricted through the piping , filter density and the MAF calibration on the tune I’m sure. It’s a stage 2 specific solution, but I think they did that’s because stage 2 seems to be the common level to stop at. Like if all you want is stage 2 power, here’s how you can do it with an intake. The flat flange design will still hold up to stage 3 power I’m sure, but you have enough mechanical limitation to run an intake on stage 2 with stock injectors I guess. Like I said I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m saying it’s done with specific parts. It’s not something you can do with all parts out there on offer though is where I’m going with this. The Cobb OTS tunes are MAF based and they all use the oem MAF calibration. The Stage 1 plus sf is the only exception to the ots maps. That’s why dudes commonly run lean on stage 2 ots maps. The bellmouth design is enough flow for the injectors already, so the addition of the intake demands more fuel. However the flat-flange design doesn’t overwhelm the injectors like the capability of the bellmouth does at stage 2. So it allows for an intake at this stage. But this only works if you’re staying stage 2. You still can’t run a stage 3 map with out the inlet and fueling anyway. So it’s not a disadvantage it’s just works like that if you’re staying within the limits of stage 2.

    something to add for FAs: the stock turbo with some porting work is plenty capable. the flow rate is only 1 lb/min from an FP blue, and it is half the price. I think this is more valuable than just running big turbo, as ultimately even at lower power levels it helps maintain boost at higher RPMs (in stock form by red line you are at less than half of peak boost) also, EGR can just be unplugged! makes sense if you want to remove clutter but effects are the same as a delete. otherwise, definitely a great starting place for those needing a crash course on how to mod their car!

    Quick question. I have a 2015 WRX. I am on the Stage 2 Cobb map 91 oct. I have the cobb resonated jpipe and intake. I have the IAG street series AOS, but have not had enough time to install yet. Thank you for the suggestion on this by the way. You had mentioned decreasing rev hang with cat back exhaust. Do I have to change the mufflers from stock ones as this is not required to run the stage 2 map. FYI I am planning on getting protuned soon, but figuring out my build. Thanks again for the amazing channel!! Respect!!

      The stage 1 OTS map will clean up the rev hand, a cutback alone unfortunately will not. You can use the stock cutback also of youd like with the J pipe set up without issue 🙏

    Hey Tanner bro, is it better to stick with as many parts as it's possible or makes sense from the same manufacturer so that the OTS tuning is easier and more straightforward instead of mix matching parts from companies that had all different ideas in mind on how to build a system. For example wouldn't it save you a lot of headache to buy most of what your talking about from say grimmspeed and one of their stage packages since OTF is my only option and there is no Dyno in Hawaii that will do all wheel drive? Obviously Grimmspeed I would hope designed all their parts to work together well in a complete system such as other manufacturers. I know you can't do EVERYTHING the same manufacturer I'm just talking about the basics here that your referring to in this video. Thanks for everything man!!!! 🤙

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  4 роки тому +1
