Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom to peacefully assemble, freedom to own property, the right to bear arms, this is what the USA is at its best. And we should never forget it. Thank you, Paul, for all your service. God bless you. You are in our prayers every day.
While I recognize this is distasteful to say here given the circumstances as it's heartbreaking seeing him in this condition, I think it's worth pointing out that if the founders were alive today, they'd almost certainly reverse course on some of those "freedoms" in the modern age. This "freedom" is seemingly only present in areas that hurt the country, and is increasingly absent in areas that would benefit it. Despite the constitution supposedly being the backbone of the country, it is trampled on every day with total disregard for it. At the end of the day, the constituion itself is a document that requires a functional, strong people to uphold it. If they saw what we've become, I'm certain they'd have a change of heart. We should consider this when assessing the value of these "freedoms", especially in the context of where we're now at as a country.

I will always remember my 13th birthday.. the way my old man burst into my room at 10pm in the night after coming home from the bar.. and he was drunk.. again.
I remember how he pulled me out of bed.. and told me he had a "birthday present" for me.. then took me outside behind the tool shed where he had a 6 pack of beers and a half a bottle of Jack Daniels and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes waiting for me.. as he told me to "drink up boy.. you're a man now.." as he poured the liquor down my throat and forced me to smoke the cigarettes.
Afterwards.. he took off his shirt.. and told me that "since I was "a man" now I probably think I can whoop him.. huh?"
I remember telling him.. No dad.. I dont.."
He told me "we're gonna fight like real men.. no boxing gloves this time.. bare fists.."
The liquor, beer, and cigarettes had me feeling sick and dizzy.. and I really just wanted to go back to bed.. my old man was drunk.. and I knew how he gets whenever he got drunk.
He took his shirt off.. said "come on.. lets go.." he put his fists up.. and started coming at me.
I didnt know what to do.. then "WAP!" "WAP!" right to the face.. he hit me with 2 hard jabs right to my nose.. and my nose started bleeding.
I remember putting my hands up.. trying to defend myself.. telling him "no dad.. please.. dont.. no.. please stop.." but he wouldnt listen.. he just went Ham on me.. started throwing hard lefts, rights, uppercuts, overhands.. hitting me in the face and body.. and he was using all of his full power!
My old man used me like a punching bag behind the tool shed that night.. and while he beat the sh_t out of me he told me how this is "family tradition" and how his great grand father did this to his grand father when he was 13.. and how his grand father did this to his father at 13.. and how his father did this to him at 13.. and now.. it was MY turn.. I had just turned 13!
He beat the living sh_t out of me behind that tool shed that night.. broke my nose and jaw and 3 of my ribs and knocked my front teeth out.
I woke up in bed the next day in excruciating pain.. 2 black eyesand my face all lumped up and swollen.. I was black and blue and purple all over... and that day I had to be rushed to the hospital.. I had a ruptured spleen and serious internal bleeding.
My dad stayed with me the whole time at the hospital.. and told me to tell all the doctors that I just took a really bad fall off of my bike.. and fell down the side of a cliffside.. which I did.. and they believed it.. and I remember how my old man was so proud of me.
I remember him telling me while I was in my hospital bed.. "Boy.. you are a REAL man now.." and on my 14th birthday he did it to me again.. but not as bad that time.. sine my mother jumped on my old man's back and helped pull him off of me.. after she couldnt stand to watch anymore.
I didnt need no hospital visit that time.. but my mother sure did.. as she took the brunt of the beating that was initially intended for me on that night.. but I still got busted up pretty bad.
My old man did it again and again each year after that.. until my 18th birthday.. and by that time I had started taking Muay Thai kick boxing lessons.. and this time on my 18th Birthday things was different.
I beat the living sh_t out of my old man!
I f_cked him up really bad.. kicked the sh_t out of him.. and nearly beat him to within an inch of his life!
I beat him to a bloody pulp.. and I remember how afterwards I had blood and skin from is face still on my knuckles!
I hit him with so many elbows and knees to the face.. and he ate every single one.. but for some reason I just could NOT put his lights out!
No matter what I hit him with.. spin kick to the head.. jumping knee to the face.. no matter what I tried.. I could just NOT knock my old man out.. like he did to me.
I miss my old man.. you was the best!
He taught me how to be a REAL man.. thank you Pops.. and when I have kids.. I will keep the tradition going with my boys.. like your grand father did to your father.. and like your father did to you.. and I will make sure that my boys will be real men when they turn 13 too.. just like me.
