Tried to watch this for Ngugi wa Thiong'o's insight and couldn't tolerate the constant interruptions from the white guy. *eye roll*

Weep not child, weep not my darling , with this kisses let me remove your tears. I read this beautiful novel in school and was used as the literature book in my school.

I have read a lot of books by Ngugi and trust me as a kikuyu i can see the translation. I read and realize the things that were lost when it was translated. 😊

In deed it's only when 'African Literature' is written in indigenous African languages, will it claim to be truly African Literature. Thank you #Ngugi

Did anyone else notice how often and casually the interviewer interrupted the guest ?

I don't really get the interviewer asking him 'why you translated your works in English if you prefer your native language?' The question itself sounds so dumb.. translation is necessary to globalise the work, to get wide range of readers and to attract other cultures in terms of shared perspectives within different cultures!! His modernist approach does makes sense and I don't find him wrong to write in his mother tongue.. he just wanted to decolonize African minds and making the rich literature understandable to it's roots! Really moved by thinking of this man ✨

The irony of African literature being written in English. Probably the best metaphor for Africa, colonialism and modernity.
