"Witches" actually had very little to do with holloween. The harvest season is a time between life and death or summer and winter. Its a thinning of the veil. Not evil spirits but ancestors and those who passed. spiritual practitioners may have used this time to be closer to those who passes. Its unfortunate that Christianity puts such a shade on our past way of life and spirituality. Especially when most of them were also European.

It's so obvious that Halloween's rituals and symbolism are Pagan in origin. Just like Christmas.
