I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that. The kobys is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and, like the dombra, very widespread among Kazakhs. The man who often plays the Kobys in Dimash's performances (like here in Stranger) is the best on the instrument and a very good friend of Dimash's. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. This instrument can often be heard when Dimash sings songs in his native language such as Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable. Igor Krutoy is a famous Russian-Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He came out of retirement specifically to work with Dimash when he first heard him. True masterpieces were created. Great reaction👍. He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that.
The kobys is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and, like the dombra, very widespread among Kazakhs. The man who often plays the Kobys in Dimash's performances (like here in Stranger) is the best on the instrument and a very good friend of Dimash's. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. This instrument can often be heard when Dimash sings songs in his native language such as Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter.
He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable.
Igor Krutoy is a famous Russian-Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He came out of retirement specifically to work with Dimash when he first heard him. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range (no kidding), like Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You'll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It's more of a father-son relationship.
