I don’t feel that the Fives delivers at low volume, you need to increase the volume.
But the ones paired to the sub mini will deliver quality at lower and at high volume.
Gotta do this with era 100s now
Ya man... So many videos to make!
@@PeterPeeWhen will this be done? 😁
Am I really screwing myself not adding replacing my one sl’s for my two arcs and 3 beams with the era 300’s? Like is the sound significantly worse?
Fwiw in a small room the arc and sub mini alone sounds amazing for 360 degree Atmos spatial sound effects. Literally sounds way better than the arc with one sl’s in a bigger room. I think the room is to big for the atmos to work. But dam does it work in the smaller room. Wife just ordered one sl’s for that room and I am afraid they may make the arc 3d atmos sound sound worse? Because I’ve heard it changes the channels on the arc when you add surrounds?
Great video Peter. The room looks great .I have the beam gen2 and a sub mini . I am springing for the Sonos Ones .Always great to listen to your videos keep it up and Happy new year
Happy new year too Peter! When you add the Ones, you will start looking over your shoulder. :)
Peter, your timing is impeccable. Thanks for the solid analysis.
I just bought a sub mini for my pair of ones, it’s really nice. Thank you for the video.
Glad you liked them! Wondering if you are itching for a sound bar to try it paired to the setup you have now. :)
Thank you for doing this comparison. I have been debating these exact set-ups for a while. I had 1 Sonos Five and have several Sonos Ones, so wasn't sure which way to go. I finally bought my 2nd Sonos Five yesterday and then saw this video in my feed and thought...oh no, hopefully I didn't go in the wrong direction. I totally forgot about the audio input on the Fives...that is a great benefit and will have to remember to use it from time to time. Another great video as always.
Glad you got the Fives. The Fives are unbeatable for stereo music, within the Sonos offering.
@Peter Pee I traded my home theater system out for the Sonos Arc and Sonos Sub. Was thinking about the Sub mini, so I put the Sub I have on 3 Sonos Ones but it felt off. I cranked up the Five I have and the bass was there then saw your other video about a pair of Fives. So I think it's the right move and I owe it to you. Thank you again.
perfect timing, thanks Peter! Got an Sonos 5 for 250 € today and a sub mini for 190 €. Thanks to your review I know that I'll sell the sub mini and get another five instead. Thanks!
I'm curious how a pair of Era 300's with a sub mini would compare to the pair of Fives...
You make all this information easier to comprehend, thanks
Good Info Peter. When you get the new Era 100s, can you do the comparison again? It'd be interesting to see the Sonos Fives paired w/ the Sub Mini too!
Two Fives together with the Sub mini has two primary benefits. The Fives paired with the Sub mini sound slightly richer, perhaps due to increased frequency response due to the cross over AND the sound stage is more cohesive with the addition of the Sub mini. Plus I was able to use the upgrade pricing so the Sub mini was actually under $300 US.
You used only one sub mini with the pair of fives?
So far...was it Worth it to pair a sub mini with your fives??? I'm on the fence here...help!!
Thanks!
Hi Patrick! Thanks for the kind contribution!
Great video Peter as always. Agree that the Ones are due for an update, even if it’s a new gen update. Also for the Arc that’s being challenged by the Beam gen2 mini combo.
I can't wait for the new Optimos to come out. It'll be nice to see how those compare to the Sonos Ones and Sonos Fives.
Well yes if they are launching that it has to be better. Right?
@@PeterPee That might be true. I've read it's more about showcasing Dolby Atmos and adding Bluetooth. I'm thinking they will be very close to the Fives and Ones with non-Dolby Atmos content. I hope they stay at a similar price point or cheaper if we're lucky. Great content, by the way.
Its called the 'Sonos Era'
I agree 100% as someone who did the same test at home. The sound quality is definitely better with the 5s.
I ended up going with the Ones with a sub
Mini because I primarily combine the sun with my beam Gen 2 and use my Sonos amp with floor standing speakers for SQ audio.
Thanks for sharing your use case. Yes, there is more flexibility when you get the ones with sub mini.
I just wish Sonos would add the software to the sub mini to allow me to pair it to my move stereo pair 🙏🙏🙏
There is one thing I don't understand..what does it mean "more bass" and when more bass is "to much bass"? Shouldn't frequency response be linear throughout whole frequency spectrum? From that point of view, Fives bass is already to emphasized in bass region, and it looks like Mini+Ones have less pronounced bass, therefore they're closer to linearity ?
@peter so glad I found your channel. Since the holiday I found your channel and have purchased two era 300’s, a sub mini, and 2 era 100’s. I have two more rooms to fill. Love all my purchases so far. My observations is the pair of era 100’s punch well above their weight when paired with the sub. But I really want a pair of 5’s. Only reason I have been holding back is now at the top of 2024 is there any advisable reason to NOT go with the 5’s? I’ve seen many of your reviews and understand all the features quite well. Only asking since it’s now a couple of years since you made these videos. Have to say again I really appreciate the detail and depth of your videos as it has helped me as a consumer quite a lot!
underrated channel!
Thank you! :)
Wonderful..!!! Thank you.
Great video and comparison on options, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I have a pair of Fives with a Sub Gen 3 in my lounge which sound awesome. I also have the Beam gen 2 with One SL surrounds and the Sub mini as my HT set up. Having these all in the same room means I can use the mic on the Beam to control the Fives which is great. Would love to see a comparison of a pair of Fives with both subs - to see the difference :)
For the Fives, you can't pair dual subs. Dual subs are for home theatre setups only.
@@PeterPee I think he mean a comparison of the Fives with Sub Mini and the Fives with Sub Gen 3. So just comparing the two Subs
@Sarah N I have the Beam2 and Sub Gen3, I’m debating adding two Ones or a Five to that room for movies and gaming. What do you think?
@@danielchapter70128 I would say 2 Ones for surrounds as it's a lot cheaper and they still sound great
Do you find that setup is better than using the Sub Gen 3 for HT and the Sub Mini for music?
Thank you Peter , I like this episode 😍
Thanks!
Peter! Sonos era 100 stereo plus sub mini, two Sonos Move, two Sonos Five? 350sqft space
Thanks Peter for the great video ! I am new with Sonos and am hesitating between Sun Mini + 2 Ones or one single Sonos Five. Which setup would be the best according to you ? Thanks 😊
If against a Single Fives, then 2 Ones + Sub Mini.
@@PeterPee thanks !! Since they released the Era 100 I’m trying a stereo pair of 100+ sun mini. Let’s see. If I was still in Singapore I’d have paid you a Tiger beer for your brilliant video ;)
Thanks Peter... You reinforce my decision to go for SVS Prime Wireless Pro...
It was a nice journey whit Sonos but it's time to go to the next level in audio quality...
By the way, how many watts (RMS) do you estimate that the Fives amplifiers have?
The SVS’s are reasonably priced as well. I love Sonos for my living space though.
I have been toeing the line when it comes to the SVS Prime Wireless Pro too... So tempting. The Fives, combined, is probably around 120W or so? I can't remember I think I did a power draw test with them before.
Great video..!!ª! Thank you. How about these cases but with the Sonos Sub..? (the regular v3 full size sub)
could you do a new comparison with the era 100s :D
Great info as always, Peter. I am asking the sonos community. I am new to sonos as I just purchased my first sonos ARC. My question is, what should I add first a sub mini or a pair so one SL ? Thanks
This has always been a tricky question. But my personal take is always the sub woofer first! :)
My choice would be the rears to add first, because they add a lot of immersion to movies and i think the ARC is not that bad in terms of bass. But adding a Sub still makes a big difference.
So if you are more listening to music i would go with the Sub, for movies i would take the rears first. One way or another you will end up buying both 😂
Hi, thank you for this review. Could you do this review with the big Sonos sub and 2 one sl's? And then compare then to the five's and the new era 100 and 300 ;-) Would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Pete, amazing quality as always!
I have one question, which sub is better to add to a pair of fives?
I'd love to know this also. I have mine paired with the Sub Gen 3
I have mine paired with the sub mini
Love it BUT it depends on the size of your room
Like what Temujin is saying, if you go with the Sub Mini route, it has to be for a smaller size room. The Fives are already very capable on their own. I'd advice you against spending the money cos you won't get a whole lot more. Yes, definitely you will get more. But not that much more for the money you are spending.
Thanks Pete, and everyone for the reply, I'll go and pick a sub mini in that case, the room is medium 😀
Good advice 👍🏼
Good video Peter … Im curious, are you from Singapore?
Yes I am!
Nice video Peter. One item that I rarely hear anyone mention when they talk about the output of a speaker, whether its a full-range speaker or subwoofer and that is the speaker's efficiency/sensitivity. In the case of looking at the surface areas of the various Sonos speakers in this video, the cone areas is potentially one factor but the sensitivity of the LF driver, measured at 1w @ 1m, is sometimes more important. This I have seen hundreds of time in pro audio where by example, some dual 12" subwoofer produces more SPL versus a dual 15" subwoofer. Why? The dual 12" is more sensitive (more efficient) and develops more SPL with a given input. But in consumer audio, manufacturers like Sonos never publish speaker (or driver) sensitivity rating. P.S. I will be adding a Sub Mini to my Sonos collection which currently consists of (4) Ones and (1) Play Base. Again nice video!!
Yes, I agree Scott. Actually, so many more factors like the Amp's damping factor, the strength of the magnet in relation to the power to move them. So many factors. I try to keep it easy to digest though. :) Thank you so much for your continued support on my channel!
I just got 1 sonos five, and I still thinking add another sub mini or sonos five better? Sonos five+sub mini or 2 Sonos five which 1 is better bass?
Two Sonos Fives. :)
Thanks peter😃
Danke!
Great content Peter! Keep it up!
Also, can you make a video on Sonos Arc With Sub Gen 3 and two SL and after that it would be better to add Sub Mini or Sun Gen 3.?
You can't add a sub mini into a dual sub setup. So your only option for a dual sub is to add another Sub gen 1,2 or 3.
@@PeterPee thanks Peter! I currently have Sonos Setup arc sub and surrounds and your videos help a lot to tune it.
Have a Sonos beam gen 2. Would you recommend the sub mini or one of the new era products to compliment it?
not only are you getting more bass, you are getting more dynamics and a lot more volume with a pair of fives!
Thanks for the video Peter. I have 1 x 5 in the lounge connected to my 30yr old stereo which works well. Considering buying another 5 so you have answered my question there.
I find that when I pair the 5 with the Arc in another room (whilst connected via Aux to amplifier/turntable) the volume on the arc is not great. Is there any fix for that? Streamed music is not a problem when paired. Same volume from both.
When I looked at buying another 5 I discovered it would have to be the same model Gen 2 to pair as a stereo. Fortunately found one in great condition second hand. Very happy. Would be worth telling people as it seems it is not clear in the Sonos information at first glance.
What if I have 1 sonos 5 and the sub mini plus the playbar. should I get another sonos 5 or get a pair of the sonos Ones? It's for moves and music and surround sound
I control my old sonos play 1 speakers with separate Amazon echo device connected to wifi in same room. Believe you can do that with Fives as well.
Yes you can. I am assuming this is the first smart speaker or you have no others.
watching it at 2x speed to get the answers fast.... LOL...gives answer right at the beginning XD
Have a pair of fives and they are very good, visitors in my home are searching for the sub… which there is not 😂
In surround setup which of these two is a good add for rear
And what about a pair of moves in stereo... How would them compare to the ones + sub mini? Has someone listen to both sets?
Thx!
Hi. I have an arc, sub g3, 2x ones. What’s next to upgrade to improve my sound experience? 5vs are way to big tbh for my taste
Ceiling speakers !
Era 300s
I don’t suppose you’d know if I can hook up a gen 1 sub to a gen 1 play 5??
Sería bueno ver cómo funcionan un era 300 + un sub mini
Guys quick question please .
I have two play 5’s in my kitchen. They just don’t sound that good!
What am I doing wrong?
If I add a sub mini would it help ? I’m curious
Won't matter much. The Fives actually have a lot of bass already. It will help for sure but I am not sure if the $750 is well spent.
How about adding an Alexa through the audio jack. Making the 5's smart speakers.
Yes you can do that. But that just means that the Fives are just like any other speaker that you connect to other smarties.
Best sonos ray settings?
Way more volume with the fives… that’s can’t be understated lol
How much smoothing are you applying to the curve? 1/8? 1/4?
I applied 1/1 smoothing. When doing my own analysis, I do 1/3. For the purpose of conveying the information over UA-cam to a wide audience, I find that 1/1 is generally easier to explain. :)
@@PeterPee hmm, but then there is almost no actual information left on the chart, room modes and SBIRs will be smoothed out
Hi Peter, thanks for your analysis!!!
What is the best setup for you ? I already have beam2 and move on my living room. I can play music on all.
- 2 five
- 2 one and sub mini
- upgrade on 2 move, add sub mini with beam2
Thanks by advance !!
Thanks fr the video. What about the Sonos SUB (not mini) with a pair of Ones ? will that be better than 2 fives ?
so I have 1 x Play5:gen2, as well as 2 x Ones + Sub.
should I just stick with the 2 Ones + Sub, or sell the Play5:gen2 and get 2 Fives (since Play5:gen2 is EOL) ?
Why do ypu delete comments that ate critical to sonos?
8:35 ouch, this guy is not smart!! Lol
Guys, SONOS Fives are not the best Stereo Audio for 1000$ !!!
Which you recomend... I'll go to the SVS way whith Prime Wireless Pro...
I would go with the kef lsx ii
@@mauricioharker5163 KEF, for sure is better.
Ok lah, to each their own. Within the Sonos ecosystem, it is still the best. Of course there are others. SVS is a great option. I loved the Klipsch The Fives too.
@@Birmingham_racing kef lsx ii wireless are NOT $1000
