- Nintendo released pre-orders for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Special Edition on their Nintendo Store yesterday and it was a complete disaster. People ended up waiting around 10 hours on their broken website with many getting nothing to show for it. These preorders are now selling for hundreds on eBay.

You’re not being dramatic. This was such a disaster and infuriating from a consumer standpoint, especially because the site was just down with no communication for half a day. Which, were we supposed to wait around all day refreshing or checking a page? Insane.

As soon as I saw it was My Nintendo exclusive, I knew the website was gonna crash and nobody was gonna get an order. Feels like I know more about Nintendos audience than Nintendo sometimes.
I really think that Nintendo should’ve put the special edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on all major retailers. That way, people will be able to pre-order it easily. The scalpers will try to find a way to buy all of the inventory of the special editions of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I do hope that people will be able to get it easily.
I agree if they did it that way and making an open pre-order it would have saved everybody the trouble
It should be an eye opener for Nintendo, leading them to mass produce for I can have a higher chance at attaining one.

I didn’t bother even trying to pre order it because I knew it was gonna be a disaster. I say people should pirate their shit or buy second hand. Deprive them of as much money as possible.
Honestly unless it’s something like Zelda or Metroid, I personally don’t care about special editions. Having said that as someone who really wanted the Majoras Mask 3DS XL and was forced to buy from a scalper because it was so hard to get, my heart goes out to Xenoblade fans here.

Another here that was one of the many that failed to get it. Got the notice within the minute it went up, had it in cart, but the being signed out stuff happened, and thus the hours of being queues began. Miraculously, around 5'ish EST, when reports were finally coming out that some were succeeding, I was out of the queue and at checkout, but after I put in my address, I couldn't get shipping options because it was removed from my cart somehow. Thrown back into the queue until the "We're doing this another day" tweet. In a Discord with at least 30 of us trying, only 1 NA member succeeded while another in Australia got it without issue. Just a terrible experience, but I will try again next wave.

Why not allowing preorders for a week, a bit before production and then they can launch the production knowing how many people bought it. Better than limited amount.
Yeah they should have took a page from limited run games have an open pre-order for about 4 weeks then close it. They had THREE full months plus most people were at work and were unaware of the live pre-order.

It's a slap in the face for Americans especially when you realise meanwhile Australians were able to conveniently preorder for the whole day without any issues, they only sold out after midnight and more than 12 hours had passed giving everyone a fair chance

I think the reason Nintendo is selling the collector’s edition themselves is because the game itself and the art book + steelbook are shipping at different times. The game will be shipped on release day but the rest won’t come until September. It’s fine print on the website and it’s likely this way because the release date got moved up. Coordinating that with other retailers would lead to disaster. Not sure how that’ll work with scalpers who have to wait until September for all the items 💀
Really unacceptable that Nintendo couldn’t get the website working properly for this. Hopefully there won’t be issues when preorders go live again. They know the demand is high

This is most likely the case. Splatoon 3 was originally slated for July, but it was delayed until September. Splatoon 3 probable needs to be refined more before July, Nintendo not wanting to waste a prime time slot for releasing a game decided to look at their 2022 slate of games. When Nintendo aske Monolith about Xenoblade 3, Monolith was confident enough in their work to release the game early. So Nintendo, wanting to do a Special Edition of the game, did not have enough time needed to have a good amount of Xenoblade 3 SE made before release.
Yes, in aus it was easy, no lag etc. picked up mine and in the description the game will be shipped by release date and the others will be shipped in spring (I’m in aus)
After two months of constant Nintendo pings on Twitter when trying to go in blind and only a 24 hour notice to prepare, I was there for the full 10.5 hours and it was a huge nightmare. Wasted an entire day on this nonsense. It’s honestly more infuriating than anything else that it took so long to get a proper update. I could’ve actually been productive, dammit. This is unacceptable on so many levels when they had so much time to prepare and it could’ve been so easily avoided…
I feel your pain, that was a terrible pre-order day. The only way I was able to get a pre-order in was thanks to Wario. Wario64 was a true nvp.

THIS! It sucks because only US, Aus and Japan customers are able to pre order it (with UK/EU being end of July). What about the rest of the world? It’s unfair to the rest of us who don’t have an official My Nintendo store :(
Agree I felt if Nintendo did an open pre-order for at least a couple of months (they had three months to plan this before the July release) it would have given everyone a chance to reserve a copy
Scalpers go after items that started trending and sad to say they will now keep their eyes out in the Xenoblade games thanks to Nintendo stupidly.
A special edition preorder should be from a starting date to an end date. if you didn't get one within that time limit you're out of luck. Toy companies have started doing that for a while, some shoe companies, and heck other game companies do that.
This item won't do well for scalpers. You just get an unsealed box with 1 metal case and 1 artbook inside. That's all you get in this so called "collectors edition".
Not even the game. This is nowhere near as good as Xb1 and Xb2 collectors were. Plus those came sealed and with goodies inside.

The fact that the website crashed due to a high volume and a ton of people willing to wait for hours and hours in line goes to show how high in demand the collector’s edition are (even if it doesn’t seem like much). XC has some pretty hardcore fans so I’m 100% certain scalpers won’t have trouble finding buyers. That is… unless Nintendo releases more stock for the market to be saturated.
@@DulyDullahan No the only thing this shows me is that money is high in demand for teens who got scalped like hell for the past few years on things like snickers, ps5, the switch, graphics cards etc, especially during the pandemic and given that they have no jobs, they want to make a quick buck for some easy money. But you forget you can only buy 2! No matter who you are. Scalpers buy in BULK. They don't buy 2. They buy 2000 or 20000. Scalpers DON'T GO for single digit investments. There were issues with the website from the game's fans alone and poor nintendo servers that's all. Regardless if people go crazy with postings of 1000$ for a single CE on ebay or not. You can only get 2 and you can be sure there will be enough stock to go around for all fans. Those who are interested in this anyway. I am not. From my point of view this CE is a joke. An absolute joke for 89$.
I've got to be honest, I didn't realize how popular Xenoblade Chronicles is. I mean, sure I have the first two games but I wouldn't have expected this to equal Mario, Pokemon, Zelda and crash the servers, you know?
It's always felt like a just below Metroid kind of game franchise to me.
I don't think it's because it's popular but because it's niche is pseudo popular. A more niche games will have less items or copies produced and they'll stop printing sooner. This creates HIGH demand and LOW supply which allows scalpers to capitalize a ton. Look at how much xenoblade 2 and torna golden country sell on eBay. Practically $300+ for a normal $60 game because they don't make as much because the market isn't as big.
Its popularity skyrocketed in recent years.
@@ltb1345 Yup from Shulk being added to Smash 4, to Xenoblade 2 being one of the major holiday games for Switch in its release year, the original game getting ported to Switch, Pyra/Mythra joining Smash Ultimate, there's been a lot of attention on the series in just 8 years.
It REALLY took off being the main RPG for the Switch, as well as the big "new" series you could sink hundreds of hours into during the Covid Era.
Gained a lot of new fans then.
Xenoblade fans are one of the most dedicated Nintendo fanbases. I'd argue more dedicated than Metroid, Zelda, or even Mario. The series has been a sleeper hit for a decade now, and it's now surfacing with this whole debacle happening.
Yeah, this wasn't fun. Wasted an entire day. I Was there before they even tweeted it was open, left with nothing. My biggest frustration is that I actually managed to get to my cart to pay at one point. The only problem? I had 2 copies in the cart. I tried to bring it down to 1, but the site was in such a shitty state that it wouldn't remove the second copy no matter what. So I took a gamble and refreshed the page to hopefully fix that. Got hit with another waiting room that I stared at until they took it all down.

Sooo Europe did not have this problem on June 8th... because we didnt get a preorder at all... check this:
At first it would be around July that we could get the opportunity. It got pdelayed. THEN because of another delay they seperated the game and the items of the special edition, so you could buy the game and get the special stuff later. Everyone could apply their email to get a notification when we could preorder.
Three months after this debacle and today out of nowhere EVERYONE (not just the people that left their mail) got told you could preorder.
And guess what: the exact same thing happened. The store closed down because of high traffic. None of my friends could preorder. Hours later of refreshing i nearlh got it but at the checkout it went blank again.
They had three months to prepare, they knew how many people sent their email so they could preorder, and STILL they failed. Nintendo just cant get it right.
I'm not a collector type, never ever had any collectors editor before, but I feel the rage of everyone who gets problems with it, I would be surprise if Nintendo was actually able to hold everyone online tho
This feels similar to when characters like Cloud was announced for Smash. There was a clog that lasted for hours if not days related to downloading him to all those Wii U's. I get he wasn't "rare", but again the demand for him on the platform was MASSIVE!

4:57 I'm pretty sure they disabled the ability to add it to your wishlist. I've tried many, many times yesterday and today (no, i don't think it'll work now to buy it, but I'd like to have it in my wishlist, y'know?), and about a second after the heart turns red, it just empties again. it's the only item in the store that I've seen that happen with.

Well... I could'nt buy it anyway because i live in Brazil, and Nintendo don't give a shit about my country.
But its really sad that's happening. As a Xenoblade fan, i really wanted to buy this Special Edition, so i can imagine the frustration. But... im quite surprised, i never imagined that a franchise as Xenoblade which have less fans than Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon, would eventually crash the Nintendo Shop. This shows the love for the franchise that Xenoblade fans have, that's for sure.

They keep making these limited editions, then 80-90% of the sales are to scalpers. Why can’t they just announce that they’ll continue to stock the item until sales fall off, then the scalpers won’t bother and everyone who wants one can get it.
I missed the whole thing in the first place. OF COURSE it was in the middle of the week, on a Wednesday, when I was at work. Thanks Nintendo. Now I'm paying extra close attention, keeping the store page open on my phone as well, but it wouldn't surprise me if I miss it the second time around, assuming it's in the MIDDLE OF THE GODDAMN WEEK again.
Good luck if all you can do is your phone. 1) it'll be impossible for you to log in (as it logged everyone out prior to the opening) and 2) you need to keep your browser open AND RUNNING to "maintain your position" so you had better have a charger ready if you end up in the Red-Que-of-Disappointment

Nintendo has been revamping their online store and I think they got cocky thinking they were improving their online relations because and figured since xenoblade is still niche (sorry everybody) they probably thought that they didn't need to have a large initial production given that they probably forgot about the past special editions I know I did

I was there for June 8th, but it left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm probably not going to buy the SE now. It's just not worth the hassle to deal with Nintendo. I don't own SE editions of the XC2 or XC:DE so it's not like I'm missing out on "completing the set". I just wanna play the game.
Definitely a frustrating day. I just happened to be looking at the site when it went live, & I actually got it added to my cart, or so I thought. When I clicked on my cart, showing one item, it said it was empty. Then I got the red screen for a few hours, then maintenance for a few hours, then the red screen, then maintenance, then, at around 7pm, Wario! & the Wishlist trick didn't work. I didn't know about that til I watched the video, but I couldn't ever add it to my Wishlist. I clicked the heart several times, & every time, it turned red for a second, then reverted back.
Next time around, I'll be sure to wear clown makeup, just in case.

If Nintendo is so determined to keep it on the my nintendo store, They should make it open preorders for a week or two. Many may not get the game on release date if they cannot make enough by then, but at least everyone wins
Shouldnt Nintendo go after scalpers and force them to not mark up their product or face legal action? I dont know the legalities of it all but I feel like if scalpers could legally not do what they do they wouldnt do it
The scalpers "legally bought" the item from Nintendo. Nintendo doesn't care. The scalpers are breaking eBay's ToS, and often are just scamming (not actually having the item), but they just buy another "in good standing" account that has 10 years of unused history and put up another listing.
Why would Nintendo take legal action? What the scalpers do is perfectly legal because of the first-sale doctrine. The thing Nintendo should do is make more copies.

I'm assuming that based on the release schedule, production on these things are locked in, but they also didn't have any qualms about shipping this shit separately. They should just sell the book standalone, with the box.
Nintendo should be ashamed of themselves. they knew the hype of this game and they had 3 months of planning, I felt it should have been available in all retail stores or at least do open pre-orders that would have helped. This is the last time I attempt to buy a collector's issue off that website I'll just stick with getting the standard edition.
Man I still remember accidentally stumbling on a xenoblade 2 collectors edition at A GameStop way off in another state, and every time I’ve tried to find other CE, it’s been a pain.
The only good thing to say about the Australian side after getting no info from a nintendo rep was checking for it after finding out the NA one went up, seeing an Australian news article linking to it.
and bam, click click mine, don't worry I'm sure I'll see 50 spoilers by the time Australia post gets it to my door though and it'll come heavily damaged in the mail.

I'm really glad nintendo's collector's editions suck, because they're so terrible at keeping enough in stock [which is probably intentional considering it's modern nintendo with their false scarcity horseshit]
Like imagine if there was actually exclusive stuff in these collections like bonus in-game stuff that wouldn't be released as DLC. Now that I've said that I'm sure I've jinxed it but for now if it's just art books, CDs, and big boxes, it's not going on my already gigantic list of modern nintendo sins.

Nintendo seem to created many head of the time technology for there systems but never fully committed and this reminded me of how Kodak invented digital camera back In 1975 but Kodak

If online is going to be the only method to get a special edition then, A; limit it to ONE COPY not two, and B; mark a personalized system maybe by, you know, checking who put in up towards 100 plus hours in to the Specific Franchise and ask if they are interested in a Special Edition copy.

Coming back after purchasing the Bayonetta 3 collectors edition yesterday. Super easy. Hopped on Amazon and bought it with no issues. Glad that they put it up on multiple platforms as it made it waaayyy easier to get before they sold out.
This special edition is a joke anyway, just the game with a steelbook and artbook, I mean 250 pages is nice but it’s still softcover and the packaging for the special edition looks so lame

I say this collectors edition is mid af and I’d just buy a slandered edition. So to the scalpers make your money cause only people who wanna finish their “collection” or are desperate enough for it that’s just free real estate

I missed the pre order i hate the exclusive online events I wish I could just go to my local target and pick up the special edition like I did for xenoblade 2
if you're going to buy the collectors edition of any game for a limited time and just resell it then your just a really horrible person hands down imagine big fans of the game waiting to get their hands on it and then just gets ruined because of people like this ,its just sad man if you are not a fan of the game just go somewhere else

Their site has been garbage for awhile. I got locked out for a new 2DSXl refurb. Luckily I snagged one. Pretty frustrating to lock these collectors editions to limited quantities
Actually I just decided. The collectors edition is kinda shit compared to XB1 and 2. No Soundtrack Disc, no LP, no Poster, no digital download code for digital tracks and most importantly NO GAME INSIDE! They just ship you an unsealed box with 1 metal case and 1 artbook. That's literally all you get. Not worth the money especially since I can buy metal cases and artbooks on ebay for cheaps. What was the actual point of this? Just gonna buy the digital copy. Have fun standing in never ending queues until you get the dreaded "sold out" or "timed out" screens after 10 hours!
It does come with the base game. What are you talking about?
@@jakeirako No it does not, you get the normal game on release day at the end of july. And you get the box with the metal case and artbook sent to you separately in september.
@@RobertFierce Yes I know that, but you said it comes with no game inside. Of course there is no game inside the steelbook case because the cartridge will be inside the regular box that was shipped to you in July.

When you get the actual "Collectors edition" at home it will arrive unsealed, with only 2 items inside, and no actual game" The fact that you get the standard game at the end of july makes no difference. By september you will be done with the game and have 100% it. Is it worth it that much to you to look through the artbook for about 5-10 minutes in september? Is that worth 89$? The most expensive thing in XB collectors was always the soundtrack because that on it's own cost upwards of 80-100. But this CE doesn't even have that. I'm just not interested in paying 89$ for 1 metal case and 1 artbook that cost 20$ for both and I can't even keep them as collectors items because they aren't sealed.
@@RobertFierce okay I get you now though for me as much as I love soundtracks I am just used to these XC collector's edition not having any as in the case with XCDE or just having a terrible soundtrack if you can even call what the U.S got with XCX. I wasn't interested in the collector's edition for XC2 so I am not sure what came with that one so this edition being $89 and lacking a soundtrack isn't an issue for me personally.
