Goats are freaking smart. I have one that can open everything too. She’s let herself into the house several times, and freed dogs and horses out of their pens. I’ve come home to animals running loose on the property and her hanging out in the living room where the AC is on.

Ansel the Destroyer is a super star trickster. I'm sure he's a handful, but he's a billy goat, so maybe it just hormones. lol Ansel must have been so cruely treated, because it appears that along with looking malnurished, his ears are missing. You've done a great job with them because they both look great. All your goats are beautiful. Petal looks like a sweetheart. 😘
Look up "goats with no ears" (I thought the same thing). Hopefully, he was born this way. The alternative is just too painful to even contemplate.

Some goats are born with no cartilage in their ears so they only have little stumps. Farmers sometimes call them "pixie eared". Ansel probably doesn't know any different 😊
It's the breed- he's a LaMancha. They have tiny ear flaps, rather than large ears like other goats.

My goats used to love to escape all the time. No matter what we did, they always found a way out. Every morning they would escape, jump in the lawn in front of the window, and beg for food until they got it. They’re wild, but I love them.

What an amazing and engaging story! Ansel’s personality and intelligence were shown beautifully! I loved watching him using his horns to open the doors on the stable and pens! Everyone who watches this video will be smiling and in awe of Ansel and his sister...I’m thankful that with TLC they recovered from the abuse they suffered at the hands of their first owner...another happy ending!

Cruelty to innocent animals really gets my goat.
You see (entirely true story), as a child I once rescued a goat from certain death. The logical result of which was that the goat became singularly affectionate and loyal. In fact, the goat, whom I eventually named Nellie Chompers, was so affectionate and loyal that she became my personal bodyguard and close confidante. Every morning she would gracefully hop on to the back porch and personally squirt milk on top of my bowl of oatmeal. Then we would share some quality time reminiscing about old times and exchanging observations about the current state of the small farming community in which we lived. Then the two of us would embark upon an arduous three-mile journey to the humble, one-room schoolhouse where I began my education. It was a long hike, but I never complained. After all, the fall foliage was lovely and I had my trusty goat to keep me company.
Little did either of us suspect that this otherwise fine morning was about to end in violent bloodshed and death.
Just as we were rounding a bend in the dirt road, we were ambushed by none other than mean Milo Pratt. Somewhat learning disabled, he was the most aggressively ignorantly dull bully in the entire Tri-state area. Unnaturally tall and chubby for his age, Milo took great pleasure in harassing all his nerdly classmates. And he really had it in for me, given that I am exceptionally nerdly. Usually he kept his bullying confined to the schoolyard, where his aggressively ignorantly dull behaviors would most effectively spread fear among his peers. But on that fateful morning he thought it would be a good idea to give me special attention.
Out from behind a copse of willow trees Milo leapt, brandishing a rusty rake while yelling "Hey Dave, you nerdly viola playing loser in life! I'm gonna rake your ugly face with my rusty rake until you cry like a baby!" Noticing the goat, he added "Jeez, that's the ugliest dog I ever did see. It's almost as ugly as you. So when I'm done raking your face I'm gonna rake your dog too! Yessiree that's what I'm gonna do! And there's nothing you can do to stop me!"
Indeed being quite nerdly, I was naturally taken aback and felt disinclined to do anything besides cry like a baby when the timing seemed appropriate, as per Milo's strictly implied instructions. Although not fully reconciled with the situation, I was resigned. Fortunately Nellie Chompers, feeling much less passive than I and having been greatly offended by Milo's unjust accusations, wasted no time by immediately butting Milo right in his chubby belly.
"Ouch!," Milo yelped, as the severe butting knocked him ten feet through the air, fatally impaling the back of his neck upon the jagged stump of a recently felled willow. Then Nellie Chompers proceeded to finish the job. Ironically in about as much time as it takes for a school of hungry piranha to tear the flesh off of a drowning goat, she rapidly consumed Milo's entire body, bones and all, leaving no evidence whatsoever. Sure, I was fifteen minutes late for school that day. But it was worth it.
He didn't tell you? His name isn't Ansel, it's Black Philip....
