    Press PRGM, use the Double arrow pointing right to move the cursor to the correct digit then use the up down arrows to edit the PD number parameter. Press SET then enter the correct parameter then press SET again to accept it.
    I forgot to talk about PD023. Set it to 1 or you won't be able to reverse!
    PD013 = 8 resets to factory settings NOT 1 as stated in my list

    Many Thanks again. I used your parameters, programing formulas and advice. I just walked in from the garage to come and write this. The saw is running like a champ. I have even managed to program the ramp up to 5 seconds and the ramp down to 7. Going from an old 1Hp Craftsman that had trouble cutting peanut butter to this 3 Hp beast that slices so clean through wood has put a grin from ear to ear. Funny thing after testing it a couple times...I hit the reverse button by accident trying to start it up ...dang thing still cut better than the Craftsman in reverse ...LOL

    I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!! I just received one of these for my lathe, and found the instructions a little frustrating. Your video, along with your handy notes, I was up and running, and tweaking the settings in no time. The company should pay you. I sent them your youtube link for reference for other customers. You ROCK!!!

    Thankyou very much for the video, that setup list you made got my drive running!, I though it had a failed IGBT due to the way it would try and limp up to speed and stall, but it seems they need a bit more setting up than it appears in the manual.

    Thank you, I forgot to disconnect my table (crossfeed) motor (also polyphase) and it worked until the switch suddenly stopped the power, and popped the fuse so violently it fried the VFD! So make sure ALL switches to the motors are ONLY controlled by the VFD. (Lessons learned) The manuals are rather a week, I think there is a need to have a standard BP setup program sheet for dummies, not necessarily by the program number (as different units have different program number order) rather by function so these parameters could be done on any VFD regardless of the "P" code sequence.

    Great instruction video. I took your notes and made the settings to my vfd. Couldn't get the darn thing to go into reverse. I am using external switches in my application. After a couple of hours and lots of head scratching, as well as looking at every page of the manual I came across PD023. I was so thrilled finally to get the thing to go in reverse. I was hoping to add some new info to your video.... and then I spotted the your post "Also I believe....forgot to talk about PD023"....LOL!

    My research, including talking with manufacturer in China, is that THIS UNIT will produce full output power with either 2 or 3 phase input and so far, so good. Runs my 10 HP 3 phase motor just fine.
    Once I complete my project, I will be able to fully load the motor, then I'll see if this unit will supply the 27amps my motor requires to operate properly.

I had so much issues with the controller and getting the motors to move right I scrapped it and got a NightHawk controller. All the motors are working perfectly now but I can not control the VFD. I have gone over all the setting and matched them up to what seemed to be the best choise and moved the jumper. still, the spindle will not turn. I am hopping someone out there will be able to help me.

      You need a magnetic motor starter with Estop on the power input side. That's the way I have mine setup. The nice thing is if you have a power outage when the machine is on, the machine won't turn on when the power resumes. There is a momentary start switch that latches the electromagnetic contactor.

      hi, yes. i have built a cnc router and using the same VFD as you are. i think I may have worked it out last night. For some reason the PD000 was set at "1" which i found out is locking the programming so when i was setting Pd001 to "1", it was showing the change it but then when i exited out it was defaulting back to "0". i spent about 6 hours reading the manual and searching the internet and found one small comment about the lock. i unlocked it and then programmed it again and like magic, it worked. So i was correct in connection it to the relay, just the VFD was not set right. Thanks for your reply and offer to help. Much appreciated. Dean

    • @dabooge
      @dabooge  10 років тому

      I don't really understand why you need more than 2 switches. All you need is 1 switch to turn on the VFD at the 220 in, (I'm using a magnetic motor starting switch) but as long as you use any switch rated for your HP that will be fine. Then all you need is an on off switch across DCM and Forward. Unless I'm missing something, it should be this simple.

      DJB HSI Thanks DJB
      I was unsure if the stop buttons possibly.... "needed to be continually pressed until the motor stops which is not safe in my mind " ....
      Unsure how much built in braking capacity i have ( 2.2kw does not come with components for use with a braking resistor , so no DC braking for me )..
      I can wire these switches in series ..... for a dual button stop ( Coasting Stop setting that is..) and i will be wiring it as follows ....
      DCM into dual NCs Stop buttons first, then into the NO Start switch and connected back into FOR terminal . ?
      THANKS also for the direct info on the mag motor start switch ..,
      I was wanting to use my original bandsaws switch for this application but I felt slightly pushed away from this idea as its good practice to keep capacitors charged ...Ill take all the "tamper deterrent" switches i can get please ....
      Provided it has a suitable rating .
      Sound ill start making a chunky housing for this too and make it look scary
      with lightning bolt stickers .
      Hope Your vfd is going strong for manys a year.
      Thanks Again DJB !!!!

    Okay so i am confused on how to get from the 4 lines coming from the 220 to the inverter. Specifically the neutral wire. The red and black connect to the 2 inputs of the inverter and the ground to ground but where do i wire the white

    • @dabooge
      @dabooge  4 місяці тому

      You're not using the white wire. Do not hook it up at either end. Put insulators on it too. Use a voltmeter to test your voltage.

  • @TheDirtFighter
    @TheDirtFighter 8 років тому

    OK...so I am looking at your set up. I see you have "4 wire" 220v on the input. It looks like you have the white wire just floating and not connected. I am assuming that is the neutral wire. I also have 4 wire 220 so I just want to make sure I get this right. I have already fried a static converter in an attempt to get this saw running so I am a little gun shy. Also I am guessing that I need to bypass the on/off switch and wire directly into the motor. The on/off should be wired in before the VFD then to the motor??? I believe The on/off switch is electro magnetic
    Should I connect the grounds direct? the connecter bar on mine reads R/S/T/P+/PR/U/V/W/ GRD (a ground symbol) there is a tag that says "motor" over the U/V/W terminals, thoswe must be the output to the motor right? I have single phase input 220v

    • @dabooge
      @dabooge  8 років тому +1

      +TheDirtFighter You need to double check with a voltmeter, this stuff can kill you in a split second. I myself never trust anyone else's work. Normally red and black are your 220v. The other line is a neutral that can be split to 120v. The other line (green or bare) will be ground. You can't use the electro mag switch on the VFD to turn the motor on/off. Use a regular motor switch. You can use the mag switch to power the VFD from the mains. The mag switch is nice to use there. Should you have a power outage the machine won't fire back up when power resumes until you press on again. R and S is your 220v the UVW is wired direct to the motor and the switch to turn the machine on and off will go to DCM and FOR. Flip any 2 of the UVW if your saw is turning the wrong direction. Connect all your grounds to ( E )
      BE CAREFUL! DOUBLE CHECK and TRIPLE CHECK your work!!

    • @TheDirtFighter
      @TheDirtFighter 8 років тому

      +DJB HSI Thanks again, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. It all looks pretty straight forward. I just have very little experience with electronics. The static converter came with the saw and was not installed so there is a chance it was bad to begin with...but when you are not quite sure what you are doing and things start hissing and smoking it can make a guy doubt himself.
      Is it possible to wire the grounds together? I am using heavy gauge wire and don't think I will be able to get both wires in the very small terminal on the VFD.

    Hello, can this be used as normal inverter for household appliances?

  • @Mogman150
    @Mogman150 8 років тому

    One more question. Could you have just run 3-phase to your rotary switch and used the switch for the forward & reverse function (i.e. just supply 3-phase and run the mill in 'as delivered' mode)?

    • @dabooge
      @dabooge  8 років тому

      +Mogman150 yes if I had 3 phase available I would not have even bothered with a VFD. My mill already has mechanical CVT variable drive so motor runs at 100% speed and the hand crank adjusts the speed. A VFD is only required if you either want variable speed or if you want to run off a single phase supply or both. You'll need a 10kohm Pot if you want to use variable speed. Check your manual on how to properly wire up the pot.

These VFDs do not run off 120v. What's the voltage of your motor? If all you want to do is turn on a 110v motor then use a motor starting switch of the rated HP and call it a day :)

Any reliability issues? Thanks.

    • @dabooge

      You'll need a 10k potentiometer They're only a couple bucks . Hook V1 to the center terminal on the pot. Hook VR to one side terminal and ACM to the other terminal. Make sure
      the 3 pin jumper on the VFD at the right side on the circuit board is
      jumper set to 1-2. Program PD002 to 1 and you should be good to go.

    Is your model Huanyang a HY04D023B? I bought mine to power a 5hp 3ph planer, don't need reverse or variable speed, just start and stop. Ramping up to full speed of course. Can I wire 20ft cord for the INPUT to plug and unplug at a wall outlet? So I'd plug it in then turn it on and off from the VFD. Wiring a switch might be easier too, I'm researching how to do that.

    Hi" I also have one of these & find it perfect for my 5hp lathe. I want to wire up the stop foot brake to it but can't figure out witch terminals to use? Can you help me with that. Rob

    • @dabooge
      @dabooge  10 років тому

      If the foot brake mechanically stops the rotations of the drive motor/spindle, the regenerative power from the motor will trip out the VFD. Out of the dozens of lathes If owned I've never had one with foot brake. I think you'd be better off getting a braking resistor setup on your VFD. With the proper resistor setup the spindle will stop fast on it's own without having to touch the brake.

    Is there a way to start/stop this VFD using a powered input? Looking at getting this exact model to run small 3ph motors on single phase (for a compressor). Just a bit of coin to throw down if It can't turn the motor on/off using a pressure switch.

    • @dabooge
      @dabooge  11 років тому

      It's been a while since I looked at a pressure switch but I think all you would do Is wire the motor directly to the VFD and use the pressure switch contact to turn on the VFD across DCM and forward it should be as simple as that.

    Thanks for info, but I don't understand the programming interface. I go to set, say PD005 to 60. I press Prog and this number 400,00 is displayed.
    I need to get to 60, so I press the Down arrow button, and the 400.00 changes to 399.99. Continuing to hold the down arrow, the display crawls down to 398, then after some time, it gets through the tenths and hundredths digits, to 397, and so on.
    Is there some way to just enter 60 and not have to do the down by tens/ones/tenths/hundredths? In other words, is there a way to get to the 100s position, hit the down arrow 4 time to get to 099.99, then to the tens position, and down to 6, then ones position, to move to 0, etc?
    Thanks

    • @Roadstercycle
      @Roadstercycle 9 років тому

      +boogerhead0 Yes, just use what looks like the fast forward arrow key. It will move over 1 digit at a time so you can change any digit in an instant. 400 to 60 in just a few pushes.

    Ok if you want to use the control panel to control speed. Make sure PD002 is set to 0 and the 3 pin jumper strip is set to pins 2-3 so that would make it the 2 pins to the right. Default mine came with the jumper set to1-2 You will then be able to adjust the frequency which will adjust the speed. Use the >> button to get the cursor to the 1st digit and use the up and down arrows to adjust the speed.

    Is there a way to program VFD unit to control motor speed through panel? Variable speeds would be ideal, but even if speeds were pre-selected, maybe 2 or 3 desired rpm's, that would be great too. This way the digital read out would hopefully indicate motor shaft speeds. My motor is 10 HP and draws 27amps @ 230VAC.

    Hi, Thanks for this great video. I am trying to set up the exact same thing on an old Bridgeport milling machine that was donated to our Makerspace. @dabooge  7 років тому

      Scott Van Campen without seeing your switch it's difficult to tell you how to wire it. DCM basically bridges to FOR or REV. It's pretty simple just by looking at the drum switch. You could also continuity test it I suppose if you're not sure.

    I am in Canada I want to install this unit on my lathe Colchester Master 2500 precision and motor is 5 HP 600 volt is this unit will work on this motor, thanks in advance.

    • @dabooge
      @dabooge  10 років тому

      This particular unit will not work. You'll need a 600v vfd. If you have 600v 3 phase supply then you need a 600v VFD that you can use directly. If you have only single phase 220v then you'll need a 220v to 600v transformer then you can use a 600v vfd. The added cost of the transformer and VFD for this lathe makes me think you should just rewire a single phase 220v 5hp motor. Princess auto is a cheap place to get them when they come on sale. If you want to keep the original motor then buying used transformers and Vfds on Kijiji is your ticket. Good luck!

  • @dabooge
    @dabooge  12 років тому

    To answer your question on setting up variable speed. You'll need a 10k linear pot. Hook V1 to the center terminal on the pot. Hook VR to one side terminal and ACM to the other terminal. Make sure the 3 pin jumper on the VFD at the right side on the circuit board is jumper set to 1-2. Program PD002 to 1 and you should be good to go. I'll make a video of this setup if I can find a 10k pot in my parts bin. Good luck!
