The Great Patriotic War (1978)

Hello everyone - this film clip is from “The Great Patriotic War” (in Russian:
Великая Отечественная). It is an American / Soviet 20-part TV series directed by Roman Karman and narrated by Burt Lancaster documenting the WW II conflict between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The footage was edited from over 3.5 million feet of film taken by Soviet camera crews from the first day of the war during Operation Barbarossa on 22 June 1941 through to the Soviet invasion of Manchuria in August 1945. Most of these films have never been seen outside this documentary series. Bel Air Music recorded Vitaly Geviksmann’s sound-track “A Letter to a Soldier” with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, Sergei Skripka as conductor in 2003 and in this film clip it is replacing the original TV sound-track.
