I love that he gets his own boss theme, i dunno what i did with Astarion in my playthrough but i just did the trial of self in the sharran temple with him in the party and his duplicate was a nightmare, i only beat it because his a.i. decided to stop being good and he just ended up standing still in the middle of my entire party
@@Fairbrooke yah i dunno, i did 4 levels assassin rogue then 4 levels gloomstalker ranger, dual hand crossbows and dual shortswords knife of the undermountain king and sword of life stealing, he would come out and hit my team 3-5 times then run off and hide i couldn't reveal him either no matter what i tried
@@uniteduniverse9107 That is honestly really good equipment for Astarion. Especially if you had crossbow master + sharpshooter on him. I could see why he would be a problem to fight against in this case.

That's not surprising. All four scenes involve betraying him so why should he sit idly by while it happens? I would never do it myself but it's interesting to see.
I always find it really funny when after Astarion's ascension Ulma suggests betraying him. Like, what are you doing, Ulma? I helped him ascend, without my eyes he wouldn't have done it 😂😂😂
Ulma probably doesn't know what exactly this ritual was, she only sees its effect. I think it's interesting that at this stage she still lets you make a choice - whether you want to help her or Astarion. When I first saw this scene I expected a bloodbath right away, not an attempt to talk me over to the side of good. Maybe Ulma knows that without you she has no chance of defeating the Ascended Vampire 🤔
The Gur idiots don't view vampires as people. The hunter in chapter 1 speaks of killing the godless very plainly. Undead (typically irreligious) and the faithless mortals don't deserve better than death in the twisted, hateful minds of the Gur. I am more than happy to thin out the ranks of the Gur.

It hurts my heart so much to go against helping Astarion. I don’t want him to ascend cause that’s his “bad” ending, but I also don’t want to see him so devastated after not getting the freedom he deserves 🥲
@@virgohylian4252 Evil-aligned is not the same as unfavorable. D&D criteria for "good" is very RHP, selflessness and self-sacrifice and altruism, even to the point of pathological altruism. That is d&d "good". Larian don't make the distinction between favorable for the character and good-aligned. Ascending him is the best survivable outcome for him, but it is a choice requiring some practicality and petty wickedness.

As the game doesn't offer any option to cure them of vampirism, there is no good way to deal with them. Setting 7,000 feral vampire spawn with no master to control them loose is certainly not what I would consider a good thing. That's just plain stupidity under the guise of kindness. I'm all for being kind of course, just not at the expense of wisdom.
@@britt6184 Errm, they are vampire SPAWN. Same as Astarion. If they are evil, so is he. And you talked to some of them. Do they seem evil to you? And you're not just destroying their lives, but their souls. Denying them the afterlife where they might finally see their loved ones again. And since this is a deal with a devil, they will most likely not just cease to exist, but be tortured in hell for all eternity. You have the option to avoid the ritual and just mercy-kill them. Astarion doesn't need to be devastated. Just persuade him not to do the ritual, and he will thank you soon after, and be happy afterwards. Ascended Astarion is very obviously more evil, and less empathic, and less able to get over Cazador, so that's not the right thing to do to him. Yes, it's the more practical choice. If I ever play honour mode I'll ascend him, cause I'll care more about beating the game than doing what's right by each character's arc. But it's certainly not good.
I chose to interrupt him from ascending on my first play through cuz I'm so new in this game and I think it's the right choice LOL when he get mad and turn to kill me I was like chill bro! I'm sorry I don't know that I must do the persuasion thing. F8!
First play through I didn’t include him just let him wait by the cliff side. Second play through we just had him in camp and killed Casador with out him. We hate Austarion
I think the only time you can hand astarion over and not have him become violent is that first encounter with the gur near auntie ethel's house, right?

Had that experience by mistake with Lae'zel and had to fight her. Needless to say she wiped us out. She had that Githyanki Psychic sword 😩.

And this is why, if you plan on taking a route that requires you to betray and fight someone, make sure you empty out their gear first.

Yes. From what I remember, if you betray Astarion then, Gandrel simply stuns him and takes him with him to Baldur's Gate.
