Thanks for the tips. The sugar apple is one of my favorite fruits. I live in Barbados and have a couple of the trees in my yard. Trust me, there's _no_ way I would leave them on the tree to ripen before picking. If I did that, the birds would get them all! What I do is monitor them daily when they're big, and once they start to change from a deep greyish green to yellowish green and their segments start to open, I pick them. They usually ripen within a couple days of harvesting. Once they start to emit a sweet smell, they ripen amazingly quickly (within just a few hours). By the way, when harvesting, it would be better to cut the stems with a pair of secateurs. _Much_ easier than using a knife!
Really nice to know. We always try to use simple house hold items in our videos so that our viewers feel more confident and ready to try them out. That's why you can also see it being grown in a paint bucket :)

You have done a nice job on your terrace and my wife is on my neck to grow this on our terrace ( just joking ). We had 4 fully grown sugar apple trees (also called custard apple) in our compound. After several years we had to cut them down because the trees were infected with mealy bugs & pressure from our neighbour. We have another one growing now on another side of our house. I use mild home made organic pesticides learnt from plant lovers like you (like your method of pollination) who like to share their knowledge to all on UA-cam. . Once again great job & God bless you.
Great Video. From my experience, when I hand pollinate, half of the fruit turned BLACK and DRY like yours. This year I left them to pollinate on their own since the tree carries both male and female flower. Results are amazing and non of them hardened nor turned black. Again thanks for a great video.

Excellent video, very informative . I learned today that I can grow it in pot! My house at Phoenix Az have a 5ft tree in the back yard planted 4 months ago. All the leaves fallen due to cold weather though it was well taken care by covering it with frost cloth ... Now that summer is picking , I hope it will recover . If not I'm gonna buy another plant and leave it in a pot so that i can move around. Again awesome video , can understand your effort involved.

This fruit is known by many different names throughout the world. Here in Barbados we call it *sugar apple*, but it's also called *sweetsop* (I guess because it resembles the soursop when cut) and *custard apple*. This is where it gets confusing, because there's another fruit which closely resembles the sugar apple which is also called custard apple! I've never tasted that other custard apple, but Mark Twain once remarked that it's the best fruit in the world (or something like that).
+linda brown The problem is that the names depend on which part of the world you're from. Like I said, the *sugar apple* is indeed called *custard apple* in some regions. If you were to search for *sugar apple* on Google, you'll see what I mean.

Hi Miss Laal I got my Custard Appel seeds from Mumbai India about 2 1/2 years ago and grow plant. in the container in California and it's about 2 Foot tall and healthy . Now it flowers and I was thinking don't have to Polanate but most of the flowers fell down without any fruits then. I Polanated 3 flowers and I have 3 custard apples and I fertilize with Organic NPK once a month

Thanks Kasi Viswanath, Actually we did not use anything special it was a mix of Red Soil, Cow Dung, and Regular Compost, Neem Compost (to ward off pests) and Bit of dried leaves mixed with soil.
....among other things such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. There are SOOOOOO many tropical fruits that are very healthy for you that pharmaceutical companies don't want you to know about.... such as Longan, Lychee, Rambutan, Jack Fruit, Mangosteen, etc.

I remember eating this fruit as a child (28 years ago) in the state of Guerrero, Mexico were it grows wild. Brings back many good memories. There it's called "ilama" and "Anona". There's a purple flesh variety as well. Thank You for sharing.

Hi this is the fruit we had in my garden when I was growing up my father put the seeds throughout our property and we had so many plants,I used to harvest them at sunset cos the owls love them so much if I didn't do then next day they are gone when I saw your video I felt like growing but I don't think I can grow over here, thanks for good information

Soursop is different from Sugar Apple. Soursop is more spiny looking on the outside. Soursop is Annona muricata while Sugar Apple is Annona squamosa.
All this anonaceas are native to the americas
