MOREL BED ATTEMPT 2023, M. americana Sclerotia Machine Strain 4

- My second attempt at establishing an outdoor morel bed behind my shed. This year I'm using a highly aggressive Morchella americana strain (Strain 4) that I bred from spore collections of wild harvested mushrooms from my area. This strain rips through substrate and is unusually fast to form sclerotia for a yellow strain.
Video on how I bred this strain from spores:

I think it’s solid dudes like you…that share your passion and give excellent advice…makes UA-cam worthy of existence.
Thank you, just hoping for one little morel in that patch this coming spring.
He has helped me and I enjoy all the videos I've watched. He knows his stuff and isn't afraid to have a trial or two that others think is doomed. Good watch
Nice!
Looking forward to seeing the follow up!
Me too, if I get even one morel out of there I'll be super excited.
Cant wait
Nice🎉
Cheers!
I'm on year 3 with the same bed and I have yet to produce. I have areas that I have poured slurry and got results the first year. 🤷♂️ Very unpredictable these guys are. 😂
Unpredictable indeed. I have fun experimenting with them but they certainly can be frustrating.
If I remember correctly in the Chinese patent on how to grow them they make ONE hole in the middle of the bag before placing it.
That's interesting, never heard that. Maybe I'll try that next year if nothing happens.
Mantap videonya sahabatku ❤❤❤salam kenal selalu yaaaaa saudaraku 12:39
Great video, I've just found you and have subscribed. I've been looking at growing morels (I currently grow oyster and lion's mane indoors.) One question I have is morels want to grow on hardwood or orchards. Do you think they'll do alright with no wood to spread to?
Not sure, Morchella americana is considered a mycorrhizal species. In that bed, they only have the wild leeks I planted there to associate with. Whether or not that will work, I have no idea. If it doesn't work, I will try another spot. In my area I mostly find them around apple and ash trees, but I've found them in all kinds of crazy places including grassy areas and near spruce trees.
@@RenegadeMushrooms no matter what, it's worth a shot. I'm all for trying something new with gardening and see if it works. I'm hoping to see an upcoming video with morels growing!
I live in North Dakota and we are expecting 8" of snow in the next couple of days so I don't think I would be able to establish a bed like this in time, but do you see any downside to putting it together in the early months of spring?
Because they are spring fruiters naturally, it likely wont give them enough time to establish and your bags will die in the heat of the summer if you leave them in place. The current theory is that fall inoculations are best, so you could just put it in your plans for next year. You could always try it just for the heck of it of course. I do that sometimes 😁
Hopefully the wife loves morels, hah!
Even if I only pick the wild one's this year again, I'll get my hands on some. Someday though, I'll grow a morel and lay down in the dirt and take selfies with it 😆
Gin or Vodka? Can I come????
😂 I'm a vodka guy, usually a little dirty with a couple bleu cheese stuffed spanish queens.
