I am a Spaniard who casually watched this movie. From the beginning I found it really different to what I expected. Step by step I realized what a masterpiece it is. It submerges the watcher into unreality for a couple of hours. I will never forget Willow´s song. The way she knocks with her hand on the wall, so rythmic and seducing. Apart of her evident beauty, she manages to convey an ancestral, pagan, hypnotic, and mysterical atmosphere, related with seasons, generation and love.
I enjoyed your comment love. I'm deeply emotional right now. This song is hypnotic and euphoric. It's sexually arousing. Thank you for your comment.I love you!
soy argentino, fanatico del cine, y conoci esta obra maestra del terror hace pocos meses. es increible la pelicula y la actuacion de Christopher Lee es suprema. es increible el cine de esa epoca que con pocos recursos generaban peliculas maravillosas como esta.
I saw the Wicker Man film when I was 12 years old on a Sunday Sunday evening on BBC2, My parents were on a train, which had broken down, They rang and spoke to my oldest sister "Make sure you dont watch the wicker man" So we did, one of those films that you dont move from the opening to the end credits, and the scene in which this song is from, Forever remembered as if I had just watched it. The whole dark atmosphere of the entire movie is still there for me all those yeats on.
This song..without fail.. Makes me cry every time I listen to it. Its so hauntingly beautiful it reduces me to rubble. It touches my very soul and floods my mind with memories of lovers past and purity and nature. the simple fact that this song exists proves there is magic in the world. and its beautiful ..
I've only seen this movie in the last 10 years, I found it quite disturbing, but this song I couldn't get out of my mind....its hauntingly beautiful ...thanks for the upload
@Stacey Northrup 😆 I have my doubts. But if you're right then that's what doctors are for. She was an enigma. If you looked up 'sexy' in the dictionary her picture was right there.
Ironically, if Sgt Howie had ended up boning Willow that night, he probably would have survived May Day. Lord Summerisle said they needed a virgin for the sacrifice, so they wouldn’t have been able to use Howie if he had fucked Willow. I myself would kicked the door to her room open as soon as she started that ass-slapping dance, and then pounded her like a heavy-bag until she passed out.
Astonishing film, saw for the first time on Halloween. It stands out starkly in a decade of “devil” movies, its atmosphere is totally unique. Probably the most powerful atavistic artistic trip for those of European descent since “The Rites of Spring” was first performed.
This is the one from the film? Rachel Verney I believe. So fragile and hauntingly beautiful. I have watched the film many times and taken myself to a few of the films locations. At the beginning of the film the producers wish to thank the people of Summerisle for their help in making the the movie. Indeed you can find the Isle off Ullapool, so from about 14 to 24 I did think it was a real place. I watched it last week with my 12 year old son and I can honestly say it is still the best film, I adore the film. The ending is more affecting than ever, let it be not a minor curiosity of the film world but a treasure that will always have its place in you hearts and mind x
This song takes me to a place I've never been......the perfect lover that every man dreams of, like youth when you are both scared and yet ready to explore your deepest desires in the sacred garden.........she hauntingly summons you to a place you have to go to like the lovely lady in white in "I Love The Night" by Blue Oyster Cult or "Lady Samantha" in the 3 dog night version(written by Bernie Taupin/Elton John)
Indeed, but there is a well produced cover by Nature & Organisation, with the incredible Rose McDowall on vocals, and it is very very close of the original song in the movie. ua-cam.com/video/hmFDxCdCIKE/v-deo.html
Anyone know why there's a skip in the movie version? The lyric "I'll catch a rainbow from the sky - And tie the ends together" - is cut out of the film - I have the Final Cut version? It's such a shame for such a beautiful, haunting song...
@@skerriesrockart It's true - if he had given in, he wouldn't have been a virgin, and therefore not an acceptable sacrifice. She spends much of the movie trying to avert his fate.
What I got from the movie is that all that mattered was that he was a virgin until he got to the island. And they offered her to him as a gift for his sacrifice. I may be wrong, but I think they still would have used him.
@@velveetaslingshot His time on the island is a test from start to finish. His arrival means that he "came of his own free will", but after that they try him in several ways to figure out if he's really the sacrifice they need. During his stay they're not just ribbing him for their own amusement; they're trying him on for size. At least twice during the movie he threatens to haul people to the mainland because they're deliberately obstructing his investigation; this affirms to them that he came to the island "with the power of a king", as his authority to haul people to the mainland ultimately came from the Crown. To test his integrity as a virgin by choice, he is also repeatedly tested. When the young man is sent up to Willow's room to lose his virginity, Lord Summerisle appears outside of Howie's window and monologues about how animals are better than people because they do not worry about their sins. After that Willow tries to seduce Howie, but despite all that incentive he holds true to his principles and chooses to remain a virgin. Finally, and this is something that's often overlooked, the landlord (Willow's father) allows himself to be overpowered by Howie, who then steals the landlord's costume. That costume is Punch, or "the fool", so by stealing the costume and participating in the procession Howie willingly makes himself "the fool", which is the final requirement for him to be a valid sacrifice. If he failed any of those tests, he wouldn't be a suitable sacrifice. But in the movie he passes all of the tests, and so sets himself up to be sacrificed, which is what gives the final scene such a satisfying/horrifying feeling once the plot twist is revealed.
Annie Ross did not contribute any singing to the soundtrack as far as I am aware (although she was an accomplished vocalist I guess her voice was too deep for this particular song), her voice only being used for Willow's spoken dialogue.
The film version of Willows Song had a different singer than the released recording. Rachel Verney sang it in the film but Lesley Mackie for the soundtrack of Wickerman.
without the obscenities, fruitiness and bad ideas (eg trying to use a toad to cure a cold) i could see the religion of the summerisle people as being pretty ok. well idgaf if they dont worship jesus. i never met him

What an amazing film! Permanently haunting. There is nothing like it.
The movie version is far better than any other one.
Indeed...This Is The Absolutely Splendid Classic/Vintage 1973 Film Version...
Agreed. All the versions are sung with a much higher soprano voice. The lower voice in this version gives it a more sultry quality.
I Rather More Prefer The Original Film Version...
@@ELPCOTILLION-SD1970 yes it's much better. I'm glad this was uploaded, all the other versions on youtube are not the real one from the movue

British horror and soundtrack done right.
This song is haunting and entrancing-Absolute elation!!!!!
Beautiful....the soundtrack to one of the best films of the genre...I wish i could go and say how-do.
An absolute classic
I don't know how Sargeant Howie stopped himself from just getting out of bed and walking right into her bedroom!
The 4ft erection he had in his pyjamas prevented him from reaching the handle on the door
