Thanks for the reply! The X-T4 truly is an incredible camera so far! Unfortunately I don’t have Facebook (yet) but I will remember this for when I decide to use it again! I'm mostly shooting (outdoor) video. But with the new X-T4 I also want to do more photography. I’m starting my own videography business and invested saved up money to invest in the new camera, the 16-55mm lens and a gimbal. I have some money left and I’m looking for the best thing to invest in at the moment. I for example still need a better tripod/monopod, LED (studio) lights and I would like a drone. I prefer buying quality products despite my limited budget and slowly build up my toolkit instead of buying cheaper options first. So, would you prioritise a good quality ND filter or first buy other necessities? Also, which ND filter(s) are you using? Variable ND’s seems more practical but not have the best quality, so I’m tempted to buy a 3-stop and 6-stop non-variable ND which I can stack. I’m most interested in the breakthroughx4 ND’s because they seem to be the very best. But that will be most of my budget for now…. A more affordable but still expensive option I’m looking at is the SLR Magic 77mm variable ND mkii. Which looks more practical. But again, for that money I can also get other important things. That's why I find it so difficult to make a decision.
Thanks for reposting bro! Congrats on starting your biz! This is why you should start your FB account so we can chat easier over there! This kind of creative and business interaction is exactly what I want to have for the group! :) So when you say outdoor videos, what exactly do you mean and what kind of clients are you targeting and what will you do for them? I honestly just used a cheap K&F concepts variable ND filter from Amazon and it seems fine to me. I used it in this wedding video: ua-cam.com/video/sXbhfphZPIE/v-deo.html If you're running and gunning without a lot of time to prep your shots and things -- a variable ND would be your friend. Or finding ways to shoot without ND even. You mentioned lights -- I just bought a godox SL60w and it's lovely. Changed the game for my videos and product photography. I'll have to do a vid on it. It's a great LED light at a reasonable price. This one: amzn.to/3bU8Mt1 16-55 is a great lens. My fav for weddings/events. You might want to look into a 35mm 1.4 prime. Great for photos or video when you want that shallow depth of field. It's my money maker for portraits, detail shots. Not sure if you saw my prime lens video, but check that out to see what I've done with the primes. And what gimbal did you go with? I have the moza aircross and it's great for what I do, but I don't use it much. I end up going handheld with the xh1 most of the time. You can do the same with the xt4. Just depends on what type of feeling you want. Handheld feels more organic and is much quicker with less hassle. A gimbal is good for long sweeping or tracking shots.
@@AtomicPixel Well, I still have to find my niche and therefore need to be flexible (run and gun). I shoot promo videos for small companies and events but also (outdoor) interviews! I love the 16-5 mm! It's such good glass! Therefore, it feels wrong to put cheaper ND glass in front of that... :( But maybe it's the best option so I can get a good prime instead! Or as you mentioned I can work around the issue of not having an ND all together. Most people will not notice the lack of motion blur without ND filter anyway. I went with the Zhiyun weebill-s gimbal. Still need to practise and fully test, but the first impression is very good! Thanks for the tip for the light! Will look into them as well. The new 'Godox 150VL' also looks perfect. But again is more expensive. In the end, gear is important, but going out with what you have is most important.
By(e)Levi ahhh very nice. I feel like I’ve gone through buying everything on my freelance journey so what I can tell you is this: try not to let your brain take over and tell you that you need all this gear to make content or make money. I would put time into practicing, doing free shoots or creating the type of content you want to show prospective clients to get more of the type of work you want to do. The more you do, the more you realize you may not need everything you initially thought you needed. For example, you may not even need a gimble. Yet. Try filming what you’re envisioning and then if you truly need one, sure. I say this because I buy things in preparation - like my gimble - but then never really used it for paid gigs. Lol All the best in getting things going and keep me posted! 👍🏼👍🏼
Mel Prophet thx! I don’t have any personal experience with any other than using the phone app to trigger shots. I’m sure any cheapies on amazon would work well. We're still new to YT so figuring it all out is what we're trying to do so to hear comments like yours is encouraging. :) Ok, back to your ND question -- I do use it outdoors when I want to keep a proper shutter speed for video and shallow depth of field. If you end up shooting something to be slow mo later on, then you don't need to worry as much. Ex. I'm doing video and I want to shoot at 24 fps and so my shutter is 1/48 and I want my f stop to be shallow (1.4-2.8). It's a sunny day so with the aperture so wide and shutter speed so slow, the image will be way over exposed. The only way to cut down is to use ND filter. Raising aperture - I lose the depth I want. Raising shutter speed - I get choppy motion. If you shoot intending to slow it down or using the slow mo feature of fuji, then shutter speed doesn't really matter so you can crank that up to get your exposure right.
