Your reaction was similar to mine when I first heard Nick Drake 30 years ago. I was speechless for hours. He still has the same effect on me. My son was born with pink moon playing in the background.
I spent a year in the South of England around Bournemouth back in 1971. I was 18 and one of my friends had a Nick Drake album. I learned all about the British Folk movement around that time. Fairport Convention. Richard Thompson, Pentangle, John Renbourn and Bert Jansch. John Martyn. But my favorite was Nick Drake who was virtually unknown. He had severe stage fright and would perform facing away from the audience at the small clubs. Three albums and gone. Nick Drake. My favorite album is Five Leaves Left with Three Hours being my favorite song along with Black eyed Dog.
Nick Drake is like no one else, been listening to him since primary school thanks to my parents. His music is so good on both mornings when I feel ok and those when I just want to die, it’s incredible. Thanks for this and your own great song.
welcome to Nick Drake. it'll continue to change you forever, and that's a good thing. thank you for your dedicated song at the end. you've got great songwriting ability yourself. loved your reaction most of all. amazing
Thanks you so much, Hector. It is always a pleasure to know there's still people who likes Nick's music and shares some thoughts about it. I also appreciate the compliments on my song, haha.
What a wonderfully sensitive and appreciative reaction and what a magnificent tribute to Nick. Nicks music was melancholic and atmospheric, complicated in its execution and simple in its delivery. I saw a very competent tribute act bring Nick to life, the performer had twelve guitars on stage to accommodate Nicks tuning. When I am sad, which is often, I can't bare to listen to this album. There is joy in simplicity, you understand this so well. The record buying public were so unappreciative of Nick when he was alive which contributed to his untimely and tragic demise. I suppose what I should say is thank you for helping to create a new audience for the wonderful Nick Drake. Your own composition was a worthy tribute.
Hello, Wayne. Let me tell you I truly appreciate your kind words and the fact that you took the time to express them. Nick was one of a kind, and we'll never have anyone like him. But that's the point; how his legacy stands on its own like Elliott Smith's or Ian Curtis' years after. Nick still and always will be alive for the ears that are willing to listen, more now than ever. I'm glad we can connect to his music much after his passing. That's the magic of a soul like his. Thanks for your compliments on my song, man. I wish you the best in this hard times we're living in. Cheers!
Thanks for posting this, man. You’re the only person on UA-cam I’ve seen react to Nick Drake. He’s definitely a very special artist, his music sounds like it came from a place of incredible sincerity. Compared to other great artists, he just has something about him that nobody else seems to have. I think that it’s the level of intimacy his music has that really sets him apart from other artists. Listening to him is like listening to a very close friend playing something by a fire. As I said before, even other extremely talented musicians lack that quality, as in they sound like they’re expressing themselves to a large audience or something... While Nick sounds like he’s expressing himself in the purest possible way, with no expectations of anyone other than maybe a couple of people listening. That quality alone is what makes him one of, if not my favourite artist of all time. Another song by him that I feel often gets overlooked (it’s not on any albums as far as I know) is called “Far Leys”. It’s a fingerstyle song (no vocals) that has a similar feel to something you would hear on _Pink Moon_ , it would be awesome if you could post a reaction to it if you get the time. Your song at the end of the video was a very nice tribute to him as well. Great video all together, man.
Thank you very much for watching. And you are absolutely right; Nick's music has a level of intimacy that no other artist (besides Elliott Smith IMO) have ever offer. I don't know if I will post a reaction on it, but I'll definitely check the song you recommend me. Thanks again for your words, mate. I appreciate it!
Nick’s music sweeps you away into a uniquely ethereal landscape. It’s surreal, like being plugged into an artists journal. Nick always feels like he’s speaking directly to you.
Man, you are lovely! You wrote a song for Nick, short but intense. You couldn't do him a better gift. His sister, Gabrielle Drake, in a documentary, said that Nick's purpose, about his own music, was to make at least one person happy or to provoke some hope. He died misunderstood, but time rewarded him, and now he is a master for any acoustic guitar player or singer-songwriter with a deep perception. "Pink Moon" is my favourite album of all time. None other comes even close! That's an album that is very very close to my ideal of perfection. I recommend you another album I really love: "Peter Gabriel IV" by Peter Gabriel. Thank you very much for this video and for your tribute to Nick. He deserves it.
Awww, man. Thank you very much for your words and time. I saw the documentary on my recommended a while ago, but by that time I didn't know who Nick was. Today I'll finally watch it. I also wanted to check out his mother's music, so I'll do it along with Peter Gabriel's. Thanks again!
I discovered Nick Drake in the mid-1980's playing as 'muzak' at St. Mark's Bookstore, NYC. I can't think of ANY other music I can recall my whereabouts on first hearing. Anyway, I never saw a 'reaction-video' to his music before, and I was unexpectedly moved to tears at your comments, I could relate so much.
Nick Drake is just unbelievable. Great voice, guitar work & song writing ability. To hear his most haunting track check out his song called “Black Eyed Dog”. Think it was on his second album 👍
I was going to subscribe to your channel for this. Before I hit that button though, I checked out your playlist and that sealed it for me sir. SUBSCRIBED! You have a lot of my favorites in your list. As for your Nick Drake reaction, I really enjoyed seeing you react. Nick was an amazing artist who left us way too soon. His music is described sometimes as dark, gloomy, or depressing. For me though it is uplifting. It has gotten me through some rough times. Cheers Tony.
Glad to know it, mate. And I couldn't agree more with you: Nick's music has an uplifting quality on it. Is like being comfortable with your sadness because you're not the only one (apart from so many other things, of course.) Enjoy the reactions. There will be plenty in the future. Cheers!
Nick Drake is in a league of his own. Mostly unheard of yet hugely influential. When I hear his music its almost as if its playing in my own head rather than coming out of speakers
The fingerpicked version of Place to be is really mesmerizing and a highlight in the fingerpickiong skills of Nick. Too bad this version didn't make it on the album. Unfortunately only a mediocre copy of the original recording survived. You can listen to it here ua-cam.com/video/dFzgUWZkgtY/v-deo.html.
7:05 This part kinda reminds me of the *"2 Girls 1 Organ"* video by Filthy Frank because of the rhythm, try to listen to those two both and you can hear the comparison being a little bit similar. I was surprised, it gives me a little bit of deja vu.
The songs (as well as the whole album) are very short, as Nick Drake was really struggling at this stage. He had struggled with depression for a long time, but those around him said he was barely functioning when he made this. This was his last proper album, as he died from an overdose of antidepressents shortly after this release.
I think the story of Pink Moon was that he came into the studio and it was a one take affair. And he was so depressed that he played it facing the wall and then left.
Nick Drake was waaaay ahead of his time.
Breaks my heart and heals it simultaneously. No one does that. Maybe cat Stevens comes close but not quite. Thank you
Oh, don't thank me, mate. Thank Nick. He made this possible.
Cheers!

I find Nick's songs healing, especially when I'm feeling depressed. They uplift me. Music as medicine.
I like your song too.

So great to hear my own feelings from 34 years ago. Listen to Bryter Later soon. And the Peel session. Lovely wee tune. Nickesque. 👍🏴🐙

@@tonywhitburn I too thought of Elliott Smith
My only critique of this video is I hated not being able to listen to the full songs myself. Because I love the music so much!!
because of musicians like nick drake makes me proud to be English 🏴🏴🏴🏴

thanks for sharing, i am glad you found out Nick's music, thanks for the song you wrote to his memory!
Nick Drake can calm any soul like David and his harp.
It's amazing how good this record makes you feel with all the tragic background and sadness in the lyrics.
I remember when I came across Nick Drake, it was amazing. I enjoy your reactions, they are soothing. Ty good sir!
Thanks for your kind words, my friend. Cheers!

@@tonywhitburn You cracked me up, continually complaining about the brevity of the songs! haHa They are SO brief, and SO full, aren't they?! Amazing
His 3 albums are fantastic, so beautiful. :3
Watching this video was like listening to that record for the first time again, thank you for that
'Now we rise and we are everywhere' (From the morning) is inscribed on the back of Nick Drake's gravestone.
Nick Drake is just unbelievable.
Great voice, guitar work & song writing ability.
To hear his most haunting track check out his song called “Black Eyed Dog”. Think it was on his second album 👍
Thanks, man. I'll check it out!
Same reaction everyone gets when listening to Nick: “that’s all?”
I love you're reaction videos. keep it up man!
Taylor Johnson Thank you so much, man. I appreciate it!
that whole album is godly.... listen to it
Loved your song at the end mate. What a great tribute to Nick and his music!
This album makes me so sad but it's too beautiful to not hear again and again
Wow your song at the end was amazing!
"Road" is my utter favourite of his, but seek out "voice from the mountain". Such a beautiful track.
You should react to Leonard Cohen - Songs of Love and Hate, it is a mindblowing experience!
Thanks for the suggestion, man!
Enjoyed your song at the end. Glad you discovered Nick Drake. Check out his other music also.
Thanks, mate. I'll do it this year for sure!

Love that final comment about the length of the album: a metaphor of Nick's short life.
A great artist.
Nick Drake and Death Grips? Now here's a channel after my own heart.
Aw, thanks, mate!
im so happy rn
thank you so, so much
Yeah, Nick's music is just special. Something slightly, sadly moving beyond this world in every track.

I like this man Tony.
One of my fav utube vids this, you are wise beyond your years if i may say. Some people are meant for great things...
Aww, man. Thank you so much for your kind words, I appreciate it!
CGCFCE ... DADGAD tuning is also lovely to mess with BEBEBE is the most recent I heard about.
Loving the BEBEBE tunning already. But BEEBEE is also lovely, haha. Cheers!
The forgotten genius.
well that was great to watch, as David Crosby said Music is Love..
Love Nick Drake. Another artist worth looking at is Tom McRae, criminally underappreciated.

@@TheDiamond2009 don't make me cry, man.🙁
TheDiamond2009 I thought Black Eyed Dog was his last song? I might be wrong though.
Always better too short than too long! Check out Five Leaves Left, which imho is even better than Pink Moon
I love them both so much
05:54 i understand the objective of this video but re-listen to Horn atmosphere amd Thing behind the sun without interruption 😉
even though I'm an ass, thank you for for the beautiful song.....
you should check out his demos on “family tree”!!
Listen to Lou Barlow and then to J Mascis please
can you please react to rainbow kitten surprise?
Try just another diamond day by vashti Bunyan
After nick drake try mark kozelek then maybe.
Nick Drake is a genius. Guitarists who deeply admire him, can’t play him. How good do you have to be, for that?
Why do you chop up the music?
