To describe the Anderson films’ treatment of the RE’s heroes and villains compared to Alice, in a nutshell:
Imagine if that scene in “Godzilla: Final Wars” played out, where Godzilla effortlessly defeats Zilla as Toho’s middle finger to the 1998 depiction, only if it was opposite and had Zilla effortlessly supplanting the classic Godzilla.

The live action movies would have been better off without Alice and having more faith in the actual RE characters. I mean they killed off everyone except for Claire.

You want to know what's even worse? That very same director is directing a movie based on another Capcom franchise, Monster Hunter and yet again his wife will be the main character.

Mike Danzig that’s one of my main gripes. Other females didn’t get to shine because Alice has to be the center of attention.
Apocalypse to me is the only live-action RE movie that is semi-decent, The first movie was kind of mediocre. The rest of them are pure crap.

In resident evil apocalypse, when you look closely at the newspapers in Jill's appartement, you see that Jill's carrer is on a hiatus after an incident in when her partner, Leon S. Kennedy died. Well the 5th movie in the franchise must have been awkward since both Leon as well as Jill make an appearance
Damien De Backer or you know there is more continuity errors in the movie franchise then their is zombies you kill in the games.

To this day I am still dumbfounded by what Umbrella Chronicles decided to do with Nemsis. From his incredibly dumb robot voice to him dying from falling off a roof.

The only time the excessive shaky cam bothered me was when I was trying to get enough zombie headshots to get a perfect score for each level. Other than that, it was barely an issue to me (not that my experience speaks for everyone, so I can still understand it being godawful for others).
In my opinion, Darkside Chronicles made up for that by having the better boss fight mechanics, voice-acting, cutscenes, scoring mechanics, and music in my opinion. Plus, it properly recreated the events of RE2 (unlike RE3 in UC), brought back Tofu, gave me the Operation Javier storyline, and had the mutated Hilda Hidalgo and V-Complex as the final bosses (which I enjoyed a lot more than T.A.L.O.S. and the mutated Sergei).
Besides actually having a stable camera, the only unique things I recall liking in UC over DC was the Wesker/Ada/Hunk chapters, the zombies grabbing you more often, and your partner not stealing your headshots.
Neither of the Chronicles games should be taken serious as canon - except for portions that actually add to the canon.

If I had to give any credit to RE: Apocalypse at least Nemesis looked fairly accurate to the source material at the time.
Yeah, it looks a little rubbery, but it's pretty alright and an accurate portrayal.
Also for the record Remake Nemesis does not bother me.

You are not alone Sphere, I loved ORC. Bought it day one with 3 buds and we all played through it and the dlc together. We are all big RE nerds and had a blast even if we ended up killing a friend cause they couldn't bring themselves to hurt Leon.
Movie Jill had the look and attitude but she was cursed to have the be overshadowed by a fanfic writer and his OC. Least he won't make as much money doing the same to Monster Hunter.
After replaying the Re3 Remake despite the cuts too the game I really enjoyed it. Jill was a blast and had the right lvl of sass. But also had the right amount of vulnerability even though she was shrugging off multiple big hits, being thrown around and getting infected. Don't know why making Jill badass took em so long.

I usually hate using the word "Mary Sue" to describe protagonists, but Alice is the only one I'd consider a "Mary Sue" because how hos ridiculously overpowered and capable of everything she is yet she's extremely bland.

Apocalypse was the only movie I liked. I watched them all though.
Film Jill went from casually downing zombies with headshots to having to struggle against Lickers until Alice showed up and running away from The Nemesis after she missed shooting at him a few times.
Watching this reminded me of how much I loved the RE Outbreak games.
Re outbreak is the perfect spin off resident evil could possibly get, it's awesome how it tells simple stories about some civilian survivors just trying to survive!
No one complemented her voice, that's wild. You have one of the nicest voices I've ever heard, I'd turned away at the 8 minute mark but it was pleasing to hear

I liked Sienna Guillory better than Julia Voth as a live action movie character, but as a game character and Jill's concept I think Julia Voth does better since she is naturally brunette and fits the design. I like the actress that played Jill in the RE1 live action intro the most though. Her name remains a mystery sadly. No it's not that Irish actress.

It's so stupid that Jill the main character in RE3 gets pushed away as a side character to assist a non-canon character that came out of the blue, called Alice... Just that name alone describes the main problem of the entire movies. It's no problem, though, I don't see the movies as canon and they give me entertainment plus brought RE to mainstream audiences.

From what I understand, they created these games using the IdTech Engine, the same engine used for... Doom!
Things is that ZeniMax owns the license for the engine and they didn't give to anyone in license anymore, so Capcom can't use the engine anymore.
In order to "remaster" the Outbreaks they should rewrite the code for a new engine (I don't think that RE Engine is good in this. Unreal Engine or Unity can be used).
Problem is: do these 2 games worthy to be remade from scratches? They will sell enough to justify this immense job? I don't think so.
Nothing is confirmed by the way, I read somewhere that only Dead Aim use the IdTech. I'll be happy if they announces the remastered of outbreaks.
@@theminionshrek7946 that's a valid point, maybe if they see that there is a high enough demand for it and if the RE3 remake doesn't tank then maybe there is hope, idk how well they originally did when they first dropped but I personally felt like they were a great concept just ahead of it's time cause online was dookie at the time. So if they are feeling adventurous or see enough of the demand then maybe, plus they could touch it up like they did with RE2 and I am sure they will with RE3 with QoL touches. I would get it if they did, Raccoon City was a great setting, I loved RE3, I actually never played RE2 till the remake >.> lol, I really loved Operation Raccoon City and the PvEvP concept, and the Umbrella Chronicles honestly made me wanna play House of the Dead instead..... :-/ lol

You still had to pay extra for it, though. However, I still say the joke is on them in my experience, since I got my copy for only about $20. So even with me paying for the Spec Ops campaign, which should have been available by default, I still avoided paying full price in total for my ORC game, let alone more than that. Given the cheaper total price I got the game for, I found it to be okay.

Im glad that someone who talks about resident evil actually references the films they maybe bad but by god i love them
Nemesis with a green eye and becoming a hero in the movie made me wish for a rocket launcher shot in my face, followed by a beating, followed by a parasitic vein impaling my eye, followed by acid puke thrown at me, ending with a nuclear explosion (in that order). And I felt that when I watched the movie as a teenager that was incapable of having a critic vision about anything.

I dunno, I always saw Leon as Nintendo's representative of the Resident Evil franchise, and Jill as Sony's.
How so? Well, both have two games, one which is a multiplat starring them as one of two characters and one which was an exclusive starring ONLY them that eventually became a multiplat. Chris is not "exclusive" to neither since his solo game (RE5) was a multiplat from the beginning, he's boring in RE1 and is a side character in Code Veronica.

Weirdly enough not-Sherry and her dad are actually meant to be members of the Ashford family. Also William Birkin was apparently in charge of the Nemesis project( despite the fact that it's Umbrella Europe who develop the parasite) and he also gave Alice her superpowers.

I never understood Nemesis having Terminator vision or having a weird voice. Why can't he just be a super-mutated zombie behemoth? Why try to future-ify him?

To be fair though, even in the first game, the labs really looked futuristic, they kinda went overboard with the futuristic stuff in RE2 at hive IMO.

Right on the mark with the commentary once again. Thank you for calling out the BLATANT BS done to Jill!! I still am disgusted by the intro scene to the RE3 portion of UC. Jill trying to copy Alice from the first live action film, after blowing through all of her ammo, NOT being the woman we saw make quick, smart and EFFECTIVE choices in RE3 to stay alive. The zombie she snapped the neck of, suddenly ISN'T dead, and has a clear view of her "goodies" and OTHER MALE ZOMBIES are rushing to get to her and NONE OF THEM are trying to eat her exposed flesh at all, and all of this with Patricia voicing moans. It was absolute DISGUSTING trash. I was honestly over her RE3 outfit back when the pachislot video originally came out, just because it felt like all they cared about was exploiting Jill's body, rather than respecting her as literally one of the most iconic characters in all of gaming, and for being a badass. Back to UC though, Nemesis was done poorly, and we didn't even get Barry in the end. They cut out pretty much all of the story. I won't get into the other BS they did. I will say, you should check out the UC Novelization on the Crimson Head Elder website. Jill isn't treated like she's beneath Chris, Wesker's equal hatred of her isn't glossed over, and you actually learn some neat things about Jill's past, that I honestly wouldn't mind being canon. She and Chris are both hilarious, and deep together.
You nailed it with the comments on the live action film. Jill wasn't like herself, but I appreciated Sienna actually took time to study her character, and did the best with the crap she was given. At least she got to beat down "whatshername" in the fifth film. ;P
Outbreak is a classic. I find it so repulsive how Capcom wouldn't port OB to consoles that were more fit to carry out the plan for OB, and yet used the assets from those titles, for the Chronicles series. Daylight is mentioned in a manga, and characters and lore have been referenced in the RE engine based games thus far. Heck, two characters in Resistance are connected to Alyssa and Yoko even. Fans keep saying bring OB back and we keep getting other things. If they were smart they would see how big OB as a sub-series could be for the brand, esp if they took it beyond just the RC setting. It was ahead of it's time, and alot of what they did, never got released.
Still I'm very much still hyped for this RE3 re-imagining. Devs actually saying they care about her story, and her portrayal as a strong character was refreshing after some crap that was said in the past. RE3 was the first game where I felt I was actually getting inside the head of the protag, so I'm glad she was axed from CV for that reason. She wasn't just a familiar avatar, we got to see her take in what was happening to HER city, see her talk about how she felt about others, see her shocked about her own survival after many highs and lows, see firsthand the depths that UB was willing to take to kill her (after the setup at the Mansion no less). It was interesting that what was happening to Carlos and his team was similar to what happened to STARS in the first game. It appears that they are really giving the time RE3 deserved when Jill took over that game, to flesh out everything, and provide a wider scope on events. I would love if Jill's opening monologue is kept in some form, but at least they need to keep her iconic line to Nemmy at the end. I hope they deliver, and use this new game as a way of re-introducing Jill to fans. She has one of the deepest stories in the entire series, and honestly some of the richest areas to develop as a character, and it's just a damn shame they've wasted over a decade doing nothing with it thus far. Jill deserves so much better than what she got.

Honestly, I have no problems with Resident Evil movies.
Sometimes I wanna watch movies just for the sake of it, I don't want to think, I don't want to analyze cinematography, how deep the plot is, how solid is the acting or anything.
I just want to sit back, relax and enjoy watching Milla Jovovich being beautiful and kicking ass among over the top explosions.
It is what it is and I love it.

What I find funny about the movies is that they made a character that whenever she is in the room, all tension and suspence is imediatly sucked out of the sceen. Like all good horror storys you want to keep the audiance in a state of bordom and frustration.
Also because of of the movies the games became more focust on action, over horror. Thanks that's what everyone "wanted"!
Considering that RE5 came out during the same era as Umbrella Chronicles and the Pachinko thing, I'm not surprised that Jill's treatment was icky at best.

Yeah, during Action Era RE (RE4-RE6) Capcom was definitely pushing the guys, especially Chris, into the spotlight. It's still a tragedy that Jill has yet to appear post-RE5.
