But i also like the other studio version, the one with the extra reverb, somehow sounding like a real hot texas day.. Other songs? All howlin wolf takes... tell me, You'll be mine, shake for me ("in the begining") Commit a crime (live alive) Also so excited (el macambo) Plus all mentioned in your vid...
@@benjefferson Actually Lenny has some difficult parts compared to pieces that were demonstrated on the video. I don't understand what he means by "sleeping with his wife".
@@benjefferson Lenny was his wife, so playing the song is like sleeping with Stevies wife. Im missing a live song he did with Jeff Beck called Going Down.

Stevie was so incredible, I ended up naming my son after him.
I saw Stevie live a couple of times in London, once up quite close. I took away from it how incredibly free has picking hand was. He would wave it around all over the place but always seemed to come back and hit the right note. Also during one of his solos he hit a high note, threw his head back and rolled his eyes back in his head. Then he lowered his head, opened his eyes and looked straight at me with just the whites of his eyes. It was the spookiest thing I've ever seen, like the guy was in a trance or something. Hell of a player. Hell of a performer.
I keep going back to his Live at El Mocambo video every once in a while. He was absolutely monstrous on that particular night. That right hand attack has to be seen (and heard!) to be believed. I particularly love how the entire band swings on So Excited - that groove is FAT!
I'll be wrong a great performance to me was second time back on Austin City Limits. El macambo recording and video was like a bad night drinking to me. Not Stevie or Double Trouble but the recording vibe to me Wasn't the best. I can watch Austin City Limits over and over. But El Macambo maybe once a year. I have all SRV DVD's. And his ABSOLUTE BEST was Wisconsin his LAST Concert was his Greatest Sound Performance EVER that was EPIC.
SRV is still on a whole other level. I don't think anyone can get the kind of energy he had in every song, but there's no doubt that he has had a lasting impact as him. Quite legendary to say the least!
@@angelocardoso5319 Gary Moore is my personal favorite guitarist of all time. I would probably say SRV is a little more influential and iconic than him, but there is no doubt that he absolutely played the Blues, with everyone acknowledging it.
I would say that the only one on his level of exploding sky lighting fireworks energy was Rory Gallagher - Bullfrog Blues live in Paris. This guys held nothing back, they gave it all and have the band on the same level. There are players with better skills, yes, but music is not just about the skill, it's the feelings you let out. Who can remember and name ONE song from Malmsteen? Fast shooters, yes, but BIG something is missing.
When the Isley Brothers created Testify they had a little known guitarist called Jimi Hendrix providing the guitar licks. Stevie was paying homage like always. RIP to both. The best that ever did it.
Guitar Pilgrim...being ever more than serious...it is YOU that managed to send shivers up my spine with this video...I think it is one of your best ever. Your playing of these tunes of such a historical guitarist is immensely impressive. I cannot thank you enough for this video and may God bless your talent. Please keep instructing us with these techniques to be able to become a fraction of what you are doing in this video.
Thank you for being humble and realizing that it takes so much time to get to a certain level ,whatever that may be. It is a jou to play and to distract yourself from all the common things in life.It really brings you ( and me) to another dimension within your own possibilities and restrictions. It does not matter, it is all about feeling it and doing it. Thank you for your nice and real comment.
For sure one of his greatest guitar performances... You’d probably also like Frank Zappa’s Watermelon on Easter Hay. Put the headphone on... volume to 10... close your eyes... and enjoy 😊
I see this video's over 2 years old at this point, so I doubt the player even reads comments anymore, but I wanted to say just how fantastic the playing is here. As a fan of SRV since his first album came out in 1983, it sure was a breath of fresh air to come across this video and hear Stevie Ray's essence coming from a guitarist I'd never heard or known of until today. Such beautiful playing. Again, 2 years late, but thanks much for putting this video out there.
Hey Thom..WoW, what a great job in interpreting the Guitar wizardry of the late Great Stevie ray Vaughan.I enjoy your videos as I learn a lot from them. Back in the day I worked in radio here in Ottawa, Canada and got to interview him several times and see him play several times as well..He was an easy interview, he mainly wanted to talk about the musicians that he was inspired by rather than talk about himself...It was a great pleasure to meet him and see him sing and play so passionately. Now, about the thickness of his strings.. his handshake was like a vise grip so he had lots of strength to bend those big strings around...I think that we are all sad that he left us so early, especially we guitarists...
The one thing nobody mentioned of SRV is his singing, Live by the Drop is a masterpiece of simplicity. Great video, I really enjoyed watching the playing and appreciated even more some details like dynamics and mixing chords with melodías. Keep Up the great content, I LOVE this channel
Totally agree! There's so much passion in the singing that brings the song to life. Although he's known for his ability to make his guitar sing, Life by the Drop doesn't need it.
Nice playing 👍 LENNY live at the el mocambo is my number one. I first started learning that song 30 yrs ago off a VHS tape on a beat up acoustic guitar. I've still yet to perfect that song... Perhaps I never will lol. RIP SRV 🎸
SRV is my favorite all time guitarist.. No one I've seen played with as much emotion as Stevie.. His tone was second to none.. But I give you alot of credit too @Guitar Pilgrim because you are one Heck of a guitarist yourself.
tightrope is one of my favorites by him , the groove is spot on , kinda dissapointed it didnt make into the list, but after all, its your opinion . great video as always man, your playing is prety good .
thank you ,, I would only get goosebumps when Stevie played little wing but I got them listening to you ,, anyone who knows how hard it is to even play one chord let alone a riff of Stevies knows how good you are ... thank you again .
Totally enjoy your vids. Totally jealous that you can play SRV like this!!! My wife and I were driving back to Madison from NC and were somewhere in the middle of Kentucky when we heard the news about the helicopter crash and that Stevie was dead. We had to pull over and cry it hit so hard.
All these songs are great. Besides them, I like to play "Life Without You" and "Life By The Drop" (beautiful and not so difficult) and of course "Lenny"
I keep going back to that "Mary had a little lamb" performance in Austin, Texas. Probably the video I've watched the most. He seems out of this world the way he plays in that video.
Fun fact, 15:44 was a real pre-war Martin. They had a copy made by the Martin Custom Shop (for the scene where it gets destroyed), and an actual pre-war Martin for all the other scenes. (Maybe for authenticity reasons) But the actor mistook them and destroyed the real one. That's why the woman freaks out so much. She knew he had the wrong guitar in his hands. :'(
I agree 100% my favorite, all time Blues Hero!! I'd trade EVERY concert I've ever been to, to have seen Stevie Ray Vaughn Live!!! He,s why I love the Blues!!!!
I think this is AWESOME.....Great playing from GP all inspired from one of the best, most intense bluesman to ever pick up an axe....Thank you GP! and keep up the great work you are doing....

SRV is a genius... and for those who talk about his drug use (abuse), it was a difficulty in plus, think about it, playing like this and having to deal with the adiction problem (that is a disease)... that's why he won the fight against the drugs and remained sober... he is a hero...
