I have neither a flip phone or a smart phone and was really satisfied until my church started supporting some church planters native to a "difficult" country. The members of our missions committee can pray with them through a program that is available on smart phones but not laptop computers. Sigh I may be getting a smart phone.
I don't carry a cellphone at all. It frustrates some people. When I go to doctors appointments they would be confused as to why I couldn't check in online. Most doctors do have a way for those who don't carry a phone to check in still. I just don't like having internet with me constantly. I do take an internet capable tablet with me when I'm out...if I have an emergency, I can hook up to wifi somewhere to contact friends or family. It's almost certain someone will have a phone near me I could borrow if need be.

As Christians we have an order and an obligation to God to weigh all things we allow into our life against His standards as well as His specific intentions for our lives at any given moment. This is also true regarding any families He has blessed us with. That being said, the overwhelming number of people in this world will never do that. Whether that involves the creation or application of said inventions. If it can be designed and it can be monetized and it is determined that enough people will be inclined to pay for it, it will be designed and it will be applied. And will likely become ubiquitous. Ok, people pondered the phone and the radio and the TV, et al. And all those things became as globally ubiquitous as less scrutinized technologies such as smartphones, tiktok, wireless internet, etc.
I hate cell phones--I am one of the many who refuses to be tied to its invasiveness and only activate mine when absolutely necessary. As such, I do not text nor have apps that are not mandatory for logging in to a secure site--and the security of those sites is highly questionable as is the security of the cell phone.
Last month the longshoremen in LA were striking. A deal was made for their wages but they moved the negotiations of automating the ship yards to January. They want to protect their jobs. It’s a tricky business.
The issue is this has been the argument ever since a new age comes and what happens is more and better working conditions comes because of it. We cant fear what isn’t here or what our ideas make it to be. Self driving vehicles are highly expensive and what is going to happen most likely is driver would be like tech workers, they can operate the vehicle but give control during time to rest. This allowing quicker trips and less road time. This would help a trucker driver spend more time with family and more pay since he not only a driver but a tech worker. Now what I know is going to come is these new technology is going to be used to fuel our lustful desires, which is what we ad Christians should fear.

Most technological advancements have been for the betterment of mankind. Self-driving vehicles and other automatons that take jobs from millions and millions of people are not. People are commanded by God to work and not be lazy (there are many scripture references to back that up). What happens when our society has gotten to the point where there are no longer any jobs to work (at least for the average person)?
This is the big question today, but I think cultural / spiritual callapse will likely come before no jobs. The issue to me is that we first would hit negative incentive structures (to sin and not occupy ourselves whether there are jobs or not); or we get so proud (Tower of Babel, version x.0) and in some perverted unity, we see the culture collapse or war becomes the result.
I don't know how weird one has to be to consider highway or high-rise to be a good thing. I despise most of the progress. Can't think of things much worse than having to drive more around an hour one way just to get to work. Then, spend 10 to 12 hours in the warehouse around the conveyors pulling tons junk back and forth until my arms and legs are about to fall off. If this is progress, I want to be a caveman, going to the bathroom in the hole in the ground, but be able to wake up when I want to walk out and feed the chickens and water some vegetables. You can have all your junk and all the machines back, all I want is a simple life. I stopped keeping up with electronics for slmost 20 years. Never even use a dishwasher and hardly ever use a microwave oven. Forgetting my phone at home usually means having the most relaxing time of my life when absolutely nobody could reach me for hours. I hate all this so-called progress humans are making to the point that living is becoming a prison sentence. If I had the ability, I would have got off this planet right this very minute, and you can keep all the toxic progress to yourselves.
Give thanks. My people worked hard to spend more time with families. I am so glad my people invented communications and travel at the modern level. Now, can the people using this tech today, use it in the way it was intended? Welcome to America! Close the borders.

The issue is this has been the argument ever since a new age comes and what happens is more and better working conditions comes because of it. We cant fear what isn’t here or what our ideas make it to be. Self driving vehicles are highly expensive and what is going to happen most likely is driver would be like tech workers, they can operate the vehicle but give control during time to rest. This allowing quicker trips and less road time. This would help a trucker driver spend more time with family and more pay since he not only a driver but a tech worker. Now what I know is going to come is these new technology is going to be used to fuel our lustful desires, which is what we ad Christians should fear.

Most technological advancements have been for the betterment of mankind. Self-driving vehicles and other automatons that take jobs from millions and millions of people are not. People are commanded by God to work and not be lazy (there are many scripture references to back that up). What happens when our society has gotten to the point where there are no longer any jobs to work (at least for the average person)?
This is the big question today, but I think cultural / spiritual callapse will likely come before no jobs. The issue to me is that we first would hit negative incentive structures (to sin and not occupy ourselves whether there are jobs or not); or we get so proud (Tower of Babel, version x.0) and in some perverted unity, we see the culture collapse or war becomes the result.
I have a hard time believing self driving trucks will be able to navigate canadian winters much less northern usa.

I don't know how weird one has to be to consider highway or high-rise to be a good thing. I despise most of the progress. Can't think of things much worse than having to drive more around an hour one way just to get to work. Then, spend 10 to 12 hours in the warehouse around the conveyors pulling tons junk back and forth until my arms and legs are about to fall off. If this is progress, I want to be a caveman, going to the bathroom in the hole in the ground, but be able to wake up when I want to walk out and feed the chickens and water some vegetables. You can have all your junk and all the machines back, all I want is a simple life. I stopped keeping up with electronics for slmost 20 years. Never even use a dishwasher and hardly ever use a microwave oven. Forgetting my phone at home usually means having the most relaxing time of my life when absolutely nobody could reach me for hours. I hate all this so-called progress humans are making to the point that living is becoming a prison sentence. If I had the ability, I would have got off this planet right this very minute, and you can keep all the toxic progress to yourselves.
Give thanks. My people worked hard to spend more time with families. I am so glad my people invented communications and travel at the modern level. Now, can the people using this tech today, use it in the way it was intended? Welcome to America! Close the borders.

Power can be out completely and I can still read God's word.

In order to fulfill our Genesis 2 command, there will be technological advancements that replace what used to be jobs that paid well. That's not fun for the people who are replaced, and they should be helped if necessary (by the Church). But, this advancement is *why* we have wealth, why we don't d i e of malnutrition, infection, and don't have to work 14 hour days in order to eat. Those people already stand on the shoulders of giants, where farm jobs went from 40% of the workforce in 1900 to 4.5% in 1970. These people want to retain their jobs, but the cost will be a reduction in the wealth of everyone else in the society. These people put their wants to not find actually productive work above others, that's selfish, violating 1 Thessalonians 4:11. The purpose of production is consumption, not "jobs" (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
