We are proud to offer 'Rover', a rare late model Hylas 54 Raised Saloon that has been impeccably maintained.
The sellers, two couples, are experienced yacht owners, cruisers, and racers, having owned Sabre and Little Harbor previously. Prior to their purchase of 'Rover' they sailed extensively aboard other Hylas', including a customized Hylas 56 'Odette' that was campaigned in several ocean races when not cruising. Their fondness for adventure growing, they decided to join forces in obtaining their own bluewater yacht together.
Their decision to purchase a Hylas 54 was from the result of an in-depth review of several other brands, including Oyster, Passport, Amel, and custom designs. They desired a yacht that could carry two couples comfortably, with great ocean passage-making, for the ultimate goal of exploring Europe and the Pacific.
Since their purchase of 'Rover' the sellers have gone through the Hylas 54 from stem to stern, from windex to keel, as they have been preparing for their eventual circumnavigation. This past winter 'Rover' cruised the Caribbean and Bermuda before their return to Annapolis. Their long-term cruising plans have changed and this presents a rare opportunity to obtain a fully found Hylas 54 that is quite literally 'turn-key'.
The sellers exploits aboard 'Rover' have been published on their blog, svrover.com

Erik: You really do a thorough job in presenting a first class yacht. As far as I'm concerned your video's are the most professionally done and the narration is impeccable, especially in describing the attributes and systems.

'Rover' is an amazing yacht, and congratulations to the new owners and best of luck to the previous owners who were very gracious and informative. I have some regrets myself about not buying her when I had the chance, but timing is everything.

I’ve said it before and, again, it serves seller, buyer and broker alike to produce detailed videos like this. I’d dismissed Hylas before but if the boat we have under contract falls through, I’d like to inspect this one!

One. Year 3 Hylas 54 yachts broke their rudders on the way to the Caribbean. The rudders broke about halfway down. On examination, the was no reinforcement below the break point. Hylas said that was purposely done in the design incase the rudder grounded. Of course this would have been an unlikely occurrence as the keel is much deeper than the rudder. I met on of the owners in a boat yard where a custom replacement was being fabricated. He was the person who told me about Hylas statement. I was in the transit on my 58 foot boat. It was not an easy passage but not bad enough to cause the damage that occurred to these offshore sailboats.

You are correct - There was a recall on the Hylas 54 rudders due to a lack of webbing in the lower third of the structure. The yard then sent new rudders to all 54 owners to have the issue corrected.

Great boat! But I was wondering until 27:13 that in a rough sea with an engine out how you would crawl into that tiny space to found out what had gone wrong.
