you are doing the best fashion commentary at this point; thoroughly researched, well articulated, and punched with valid concerns and unbiased critique.
Thank you so much, I always feel bad bringing up the points of weakness I notice in the brands, but I feel like it wouldnt be truthfully unbiased without highlighting both sides
@@understitchYT it's necessary. Fashion being a creative field is always ignored when it needs to be discussed with a certain seriousness. Yes it's mostly entertaining, but it's also business. Big business. And you are truly giving it both the respect and voice it needs. Especially right now, with so much happening so fast.
At 2:26 I say about "the last video" on Stefan Cooke, but it's not out yet, I'm planning it for their show in the womenswear weeks, but its available now on Patreon for early access
Whilst I am not your target audience, your approach to the subject and overall professionalism won me over. I have binged watched several already (and subscribed). To me it also highlights that one can admire and respect one’s work without having a background or familiarity in it. You have a wonderfully ability of storytelling and bringing us along for the ride.
Botter was a brand I discovered from SSENSE in 2020. It was such a fun brand but apart from their appointment at Nina Ricci, I knew very little of the brand. Your video was very insightful, and added towards my knowledge of the brand from Bliss Foster’s documentary of their FW22 collection.
Maybe, yeah, I hope they take it that way if they do ever watch the video. I know a lot of designers do actually watch my videos on them, so I can hope
They usually get the attention when one of their gimmicks hits the right spot. Idk if thatll happen this season, but commercially and in terms of product I think this is one of their strongest! I adore those netting pieces
A sustainable luxury brand would be interesting to see. Considering the clout that Botter garners each season they could def use that to make some sort of impact on the larger luxury fashion industry. There is def some questionable material usage and production tho.
@@understitchYT this is part of the problem that Patagonia faced in their beginning as well. They had a lot of trial and error since manufacturers did not want to do something that would have an upfront cost.
I want to cover them so badly!! I have this enormous list of brands that I'm wanting to cover and its like hundreds and hundreds of names, but theyre towards the top for sure
Would you mind making a video (or a response) on some of the terms you are using? What are the relationships between Codes ("Nina Riccis codes"), Signatures, and Themeing? I guess i can also throw in Brand in there... Are these overlapping concepts or separate? Is a signature an example of the codes?
Theyre very overlapping, yes, theyre also subjective terms, what might be a signature for me may not be for another consumer, this can also be extended to codes, which, at least imo, are longer standing signatures. I guess in a nutshell, a theme is for a collection, a signature is for several seasons (some also use this synonymously with theme), and codes are something thats expected to see in order to know its from the brand
If anyone can answer my question, what is an estimate I would have to spend to create a small collection with pieces made in maybe a New York atelier? From prototypes sampling to production, photoshoots with models and marketing?
It depends on so many things, are you sewing the pieces yourself? are you doing a presentation or an actual fashion show? Are you taking part in the official fashion week season? All of these things have different costs. It’s vastly different even season on season for the same brand, let alone for a new brand.
I would honestly like to do a series of Korean brands; Munn, PushBUTTON, Juun.J, Ader, Andersson Bell. Just because I have a lot of knowledge in that area, but Im a little worried they wouldnt get as many views (though my Gentle Monster video has done exceptionally well
5:03 so they are supposed to fetch plastic waste from the ocean and make desirable headpieces from it in order to seem authentic? Dont you think thats a bit unrealistic?
I would love to do more indian fashion designers actually, but so much about this stage in my YTing is about playing to the algorithm. I think when I have a base for viewership thats more bankable Ill be able to branch out and cover brands like Rahul or other world designers
i just saw there last collection and they could EASILY take over the mantle for displaced raf simons fans!!!!! it was such a fantastic collection!!!! i cant wiat to watch this video this weekend. must sleep now
I have a passion for fashion and enjoy following brands like Botter. However, it's important to acknowledge that environmentally conscious fashion can seem contradictory. We all know that we don't need an excessive amount of clothes, especially if they're made from plastic or contribute to pollution during the production process. To me, the "save the oceans/dolphins are cute" marketing tactics seem like unnecessary and superficial distractions.
I would be more sceptical if it was a bigger company. I want to believe that theyre two people trying to make it and just dont have the resources to make exactly what they want to
so, i know it's not about nina ricci... but did they get fired? and when? sad, because nina ricci f/w '19 (while kind of uneven and lacking focus) had moments of courreges inspired brilliance.
hmm… in my corporate role, that translates to we’re not going to fire you as much as allow you leave with your dignity. 😆 i’m excited to follow their evolution.
I don’t know, Botter’s messaging is just too on the nose for me. Combine that with the fact that they just pick another issue every season just makes it all feel too gimmicky, tired and superficial to me. They’re really a “activism first, fashion second”-company. Also doing a show sponsored by Mercedes-Benz just after you released your “climate change” collection? Surely I’m not the only one cringing here? They really have a “art school project” aura about them that they will need to shed if they want to stay relevant. btw, excellent video’s! truly gamechanging on fashion yt
I give them so much benefit of the doubt because I know it can't be easy to be a small business in fashion. Most of them make no money or a loss and I can genuinely believe thats the reason they took the Mercedes Benz grant, but the production of their own garments is harder to overlook, esp when we know Jacquemus did very natural and unblended garments from that early on. Its interesting, I know, or hope, they dont have malice, but theres definitely room for growth there
I dont know if anything came from the rumours he was starting his own label actually, I dont think he launched one tbh. Maybe I could do his life story?
Would you consider a Schiaparelli to be a sleeping beauty brand? Outside of fashion, nerd circles Schiaparelli wasn’t as well known to the larger public until Daniel Rosenberry took over as creative Director.
Oh 100% I consider Schiap to be a sleeping beauty, I think for YEARS it was the perfect sleeping beauty actually. I may or may not have a video coming soon 💕

What a lovely thing to read, thank you so much, I’m so glad that you find a value in my content outside of the creativity of the brand I cover 🥰

Yeah Id like to see that too. Once they have more resources at their disposal then Id like to see how that part of the brand evolves

You are brilliant with your appreciation at the same time critique of designer fashion brands and would be a great consultant!!!
I would love to be a consultant for a brand honestly
Another great episode!! I always look forward to your uploads on both of you channels!!
Im so glad! Thanks for watching 🤌
This channel is introducing me to fashion houses I didn't know before
I’m so glad to be able to do that
Really enjoy your content very easy to listen to whilst working keep it up!!!
Thank you so much 🥰
well done and thoroughly researched.

you're doing the damn thing... your work is important!
Thank you 🙌🙌
Excellent video, as always. I would love to see your take on the brand MISBHV

Hello, love your uploads!
What is the backround musics name? 💛
Sorry, it doesnt have a name, I made it actually

Been waiting on this I loveeee Botter. The Spring’23 show is still top tier.
It was so good!!
@@understitchYT the suits made from kelp blew me awayyyy. I love how they let the minds wander but also still have clear message.

5:03 so they are supposed to fetch plastic waste from the ocean and make desirable headpieces from it in order to seem authentic? Dont you think thats a bit unrealistic?
I mean to suggest they could use natural fabrics. Jacquemus does and make almost no hulabaloo about the environment
can you make a video about Rahul Mishra ?
I would love to do more indian fashion designers actually, but so much about this stage in my YTing is about playing to the algorithm. I think when I have a base for viewership thats more bankable Ill be able to branch out and cover brands like Rahul or other world designers

Fall? Where did you get fall?
i just saw there last collection and they could EASILY take over the mantle for displaced raf simons fans!!!!! it was such a fantastic collection!!!! i cant wiat to watch this video this weekend. must sleep now
It really was a fantastic show, but imo I think that spot is perfect for Kiko Kostadinov
@@understitchYT i thought maybeeee, but kiko might be a bit too cerebral for Raf fans. Love both brands though!!!!
DO a Video on A-cold-wall
Love them, hard up on the list
this my fav brand right now , cdg is my mj but botter my steph curry rick and raf my lebron and kd
All those comparisons made me smile
do you know how hard it is to manufacture clothes with not harmful materials? I’d like to know!
It is much harder and can be more expensive depending on the product, but its certainly possible, there are many brands that have done it

I'm very happy to see this brand covered beyond the hullabaloo about 'condom hands' and other gimmicks
Its really those gimmicks that got people to notice the brand though, honestly, gimmicks seem to be a necessity in fashion these days
