It's closer then it looked, lights and sirens warn the other driver that you are moving, allows you to move about the freeway with ease, also ensures you wont be stuck in a lane while everyone else is doing their own thing.

If you don’t run that siren loud and proud, you ain’t using it the right way. Sirens are meant to be heard from miles away and to clear traffic, not to be quiet....
