That's something interesting about TWSBI pens. They're super impact resistant because they're made of polycarbonate, so if you drop them or run them over they are usually ok and they don't break or crack. Polycarbonate is very susceptible to environmental stress cracking, so if parts like the cap or screw in parts are overtightened, they WILL crack or split after some weeks or days. It's really a very interesting material, but it's responsible for a lot of TWSBI's problems. People have a really poor sense of how tight they are tightening things. On my TWSBI pens, when I receive them, I loosen the piston mechanism and tighten it down just to the point of where it stops but not so loose that it doesn't unscrew. The italics and stubs really need some getting used to because you have to be so mindful of how you are holding it

Beware the nib! Nib jib, jibbery wib jib nib, the most vulnerable part to any fountain pen, as well as it's most alluring. Actual impacts cause catastrophic damage as tines and tip are reformed into new shapes. There are nib blocks and nib burnishers to reform and fix such damage but ideally, try to keep pens safely parked and capped.
I'm lucky enough to have an Onoto del a Rue with a stub nib of about 1-8 ; it writes some of my favourite scripts -- uncial, gothic -- like a mediaeval chroniclers dream .

Husband had a nice pen, he was proud to pull it out to show a friend when the biggest catastrophe happened - dropped to the floor on the nib. Quickest way to kill a fountain pen.

It could be much worse. Preppy eyedropper filled with Baystate Blue, fallen to the floor, unloosened at the barrel section, and cracked. Glad I don't eyedropper fill, nor have any ink as high maintenance as BSB.

That ink is gorgeous! The pen is very pretty too.

I’ve dropped a lot of Vanishing Points at work, probably had to buy at least 3 replacement nibs, because of course they always hit the floor nib down. Finally decided no more good pens at work. Of course, I still do use them and my worst moment was a few months ago dropping a Benu Euphoria on a hard tile floor - the bottom barrel broke where it meets the screw on part. Totally my fault, I was carrying a bunch of other stuff and was in a rush and should have put the pen in my pocket instead of carrying it in my hand. Benu customer service service is awesome, though, I can get a replacement piece for the pen.
I hear you about Polar Glow. Love that ink, it’s always in at least one or two of my pens but omg is it staining!!!

The TWSBI VAC 700 R is a nice pen. I LOVE my VAC 700.

Yes that nib adds a nice flair to your writing. Nibs that I’ve had to learn how to use include a Magna Carta Mag 600 and any flex nib. A journaler nib, and a titanium flex nib. I have dropped two Pilot pens, a 74 and 823 and a Sailor Wicked witch nib down. Don’t quit on them it just gives you an opportunity to fix them.

I just fell in love with stubs a couple weeks ago. My first fountain pen was a really cheap calligraphy set from Michael's craft store because I wanted to try calligraphy. I got into regular FPs and forgot about it then tried it again and realized I absolutely love the line width.
Since I started with stubs and disciplining myself to hold it at specific angles in my VERY novice calligraphy self-learning sessions, I actually feel MORE comfortable writing with a FP this way and didn't even realize it.
Basically I'm going all in and gonna get a really nice 1.1 and hopefully I'll be able to find a nice 0.8mm stub too.

I find that there are two types of pen/ink behavior with stubs. One: The put down a lot of ink, and with shading inks, you get wide lies (up &down) with substantial darkness. Two: the nib spreads out a normal amount of ink onto a wider line, thus shading inks appear light.

I’ve been curious about stub nibs too, and wonder how my writing would look with it. I might just get one to put on my Safari to play around with it a bit. I send greeting cards (birthdays, Christmas) to friends and family so it might look cool to write them with a stub nib and fancy ink.

I have the mini version of this. It’s definitely on the dryer side. I find it to be dryer than the nibs on my Ecos for some reason. I like it, but I relate to your experience.

By the way, desk height is 28-30 inches. TWSBI vacs are a great intro to both vacuum fillers and demonstrators. Perform like champs, always ready to go.😊

I really like TWSBI stub nibs, but I also really wish they’d come out with a medium stub, like a 0.7 or something along those lines. I have Polar Glow in a Vac 700R Iris with a medium nib and I’ve not had the drying out problem you mentioned. Maybe it’s just from waving the pen around?

Do get a hold of Montblanc. They will fix the pen. I have known of this happening to people, and each time it has happened, Montblanc has fixed it. I know at least some of them were fixed for free. I've had to deal with them before, and Montblanc's customer service is pretty good. They replaced the entire guts of one of my pens once when I was having problems for no charge

I found that writing with 1.9mm stub is strange, definitely need to angle correctly. I love broad nibs, all kinds - so I don't mind at all 😊

Hey only because I've noticed over a long period of time trying to view your videos you have frequent giggling and laughter while you talk. You are the only person in the hundreds and hundreds of people I've ever met that have shown this propensity. I truly for yourself encourage you to look up a condition known as PBA. I think it would be a helpful thing for you to look at. Also your views will probably go up over time on this video however I've shown this to more than 10 different friends and family members who all scratch their heads and concluded who cares about dice? What an insignificant and uninteresting topic. I wish you all the luck following what likely has been burnout from having to read reviews like this and all the videos you've done relating in some part to fountain pens. I hope you have many healthy days and weeks to enjoy. Take care.

I have recently gotten my first 1.1 stub nib in a Nahvalur Schuylkill and I'm learning how to write with it. Compared to your Vac nib it looks sharper on the edges but I don't know how it differs when writing since I don't have a TWSBI. Have thought about getting one but the dry nibs doesn't sound good. 😇🩷🙏🙌
