I cannot say enough good things about the first two games on Xbox. Like you said, these games were released in the golden era of paintball when it was at its height of popularity easily. The best feature was playing online seven vs. seven. I can’t tell you how many friends I made just by playing Xbox live. I legitimately joined a division 2 NPPL team from the networking on that game. Not only was the online gameplay, addicting, but maxed, allowed you to create your own tournaments and have other teams compete for leaderboard. There was even leagues made on gamebattles. To this day, I have never had more fun playing video games online than with Greg Hastings Tournament Paintball.
Hey, just a heads up since you mentioned being an OG GHTP XBL player... If you still have your original XBOX or a PC capable of running the XEMU emulator, GHTP 1 is now playable online again thanks to the original XBL revival project called "Insignia". GHTP Max'd isn't playable yet, however it should become supported any day now since the Insignia development team just re-enabled clan support very recently, which GHTP Max'd relies on.
@@MJB360 besides Halo 2 all the games on Insignia are completely dead, so it would be really challenging getting enough people together to make it worth while. would be cool if someone started a discord but I doubt there's enough nostalgia for this game to attract enough people to start playing.
I was photographed for this game for Team Exile back in the day. The photos were taken up at Boston Paintball with my team and others that wanted to be in the game.
Don't forget about Splat Magazine's Renegade Paintball too! I loved playing it growing up, and I believe its what got me interested in the sport to begin with besides the old TV light gun game Mission Paintball. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed SRPB it was the only paintball game I had access to until many years later when I found a used copy of NPPL '09 from my local GameStop. Suffice to say, I played it for a little bit, but I didn't really like it. I went back to playing SRPB and never touched it again. A couple years ago I finally got around to burning a copy of GHTP for my softmodded XBOX, and while I love SRPB, this game is definitely superior and easily the definitive Paintball video game. Also, a heads up to original XBOX users! GHTP is now playable on XBOX LIVE again via a free revival service called Insignia. If you wish to learn more about it, please visit their website: insignia.live Please keep in mind though that an ORIGINAL XBOX, OR the XEMU emulator is required in order to play. You cannot use an XBOX 360.

Here is a little known fact, GHTP had a "street team" To help promote the game. These were comprised from players from all over America that were selected out of a ton of people who sent in applications. If I recall correctly there was about 18 people. They (Greg and company) sent out ton's of swag that was given out at GameStop's and fields by these players. There was physical copies of the games, posters, ghtp goggle straps, and various advertising items by really advertising from players to players, Which made this a much more unorthodox way to advertise but turned out to work successfully. The street team members received a free signed copy of the game and a personalized jersey made for each one of them.

I remember playing GHTP on Xbox back in 2004/05. Taking me baaaaaaaack. There was a paintball game on PC back in 07-08 that I got onto my highschool storage server, could play it from any PC in the building. So much class was skipped with 8 or so of us playing that game against each other. Wish I could recall the name.
Love it. Very interesting to see how things have changed vs carried across generations of games. It’s never been easier to make a game than it is today, but still very difficult to make a game that both looks + feels good. Whether strategic or not, the original Greg Hastings hit the market at a perfect time, being early on the Xbox platform just 3 years after its launch. It was a great game even by today’s standards and no doubt grew paintball massively, but matured gaming platforms like console and PC are significantly more crowded now, which is tough. I had never seen the gameboy / ds version before, that’s wild! 😄
I really hope Paintballers is going to be a great game with all the good features. Like great movement mechanics, real gear/players, a strong multiplayer base and solid career mode. I guess we will find out on the 10th of this month. Fingers crossed

It keep new players from wanting to play, and current ones tried of spending that kind of money. Not sure what paint costs now, but back then it was about $60 a box. Remember that min wage was also around $5 an hour. Dropping a case a game to be competitive wasn't something people could afford.
Now that I'm older I could easily afford paintball, but I'm too old for it now. Once you get to be 30+ you age out of it. I would like it if paintball went back to auto cockers. I think I would come back for that.
10 man tournaments are all mechanical. You should look into it.
@@MattTheGymRat I would be interested if they had teams that would include older people. It does look like you can still get a cocker. I know they aren't the best gun out there, but they are the most fun to use.
@@scmsean the league is full of old pros. Ton of guys from the 90s playing with cockers at the tournaments.
Greg hastings maxed was the best paintball game definitely online play

2:07 C'mon man, how you gonna leave THPS out of that list?
