Based on how Luffy gave up after Marineford, I think it's safe to say he'd give up if he lost everyone in his crew for real.
Yeah i think that's pretty much on point, i half expected this movie to go full non cannon and have a bad end for them, which would have been insanely wild for a one piece film. I would've appreciated it for being fucked up and daring, but i'm glad we got our one piece end haha
He would destroy the world if he lost his crew maybe that's why he destroys fishman island
@@TurusDJava idk how to feel about this.... while on one side I genuinely love the idea that luffy just goes crazy... but not at the cost of the crew.
However I have had a thought for a while about how crazy of a twist it would be if luffy was almost a villain in the end somehow. Doubtful. But would be WILD
@@BuddyRIP yhea i just cant shake the feeling that it could end with luffy being the villain but the only reason would be if he loses all hope and that can only happen if he loses his crew but it probably wont happen anyway
@@TurusDJava I remembered the point I wanted to bring up but I don't want to potentially spoil... but... Rox? That's all I feel safe saying.
This movie traumatized me but it was unique compared to other OP movies- it's pretty much a horror movie
Same
Because OnePiece never have genre .
Love it .
it traumatized me too…
I literally stopped breathing and now I am taking deep breaths I traumatized 🤕💀😵😭😭😖😖😖😭
Where can I watch it
I love this movie. It prioritizes storytelling over fanservice and has setpieces that emphasize the themes and narrative. If you aren't immediately repulsed by the change in art style, it gets a 10/10 in visuals and lighting.
Ikr. These new one piece movies or heck just shonen movies in general are mostly fanservice with little substance
I feel like this movie influenced the way they animated some scene later.
The slow walk of Luffy dodging the arrows and his final punch really makes me think of the Celestial Dragon's punch scene.
This scene inspired the scene where Luffy punched the celestial dragon later on in 2009
That face of Luffy was worth a 100/10 alone. Never seen him in pure horror like this...
But yeah, still my favorite OP of them all. So unique.
Fun fact, this movie was directed by the same person who directed the Digimon movie! So if the art style looks familiar, that may be why!
and Summerwars
this artstyle and theme of the movie combine exquisitely
Akainu, Kuma & Baron Omatsuri the only three people to break luffy's spirit
Hell i'm pretty sure Baron practically made luffy give up on life before that girl said she could hear chopper
The Baron hit Luffy in his greatest weak spot and he had no defense at all. He also proved Luffy would become a monster if he were to lose his crew. Luffy may have won because he learned the power of moving on, and even recovered his friends, but he was definitely on that same path of bitterness and self-destruction as the Baron.
Still the darkest scenes in One Piece history. Even compared to canon scenes.
The art style is emblematic of Mamoru Hosoda, he is one of my favorite directors; you should watch * wolf children *, * the girl who leapt through time * and * the boy and the beast *. You’ll love them
I'm starting to realize a common trend with the one piece movies that are considered good. They all end up having things that are used later in the series. Like this movie is supposed to be around water 7, but watching it gives me sabaody vibes.. it's like oda is using the movies to test if the fans will enjoy an idea for upcoming arcs. Biggest example is luffy walking up to the guy and dodging the arrows... literally almost identical to the sabaody scene
46:05 yep. Definitely sabaody lmao I'm definitely not crazy
Not to mention the idea of Luffy breaking down after losing crew. He reacted very similarly in the Sabaody arc
@@jeffreymoespot5402 for sure! Like this movie seems like it was almost testing audience reaction to the themes or something.
I think it's the other way around: the people who animate one piece are often fans themselves and of course watch the movies, so they will end up being inspired by the movies and will have things be similar! Oda had the seperation of the crew as an idea for a long time already, he even thought Kuma would be the one to seperate them back when he was introduced! That being said it's not impossible, and you're definitely not crazy, but also remember that the earlier OP movies didnt have Oda involved in them. The later ones all had their character designs, movie villains n such designed and written by Oda, but not in this one.
Oda wasn't writing films at this point. He has little input in this film.
Being so preoccupied talking about avoiding chat spoilers about the survival of the crew to miss the movie talking that same subject is such a classic reaction move hahahahaha, great reaction, honest.
This movie will always bring tears to my eyes, due to the pure relief of Luffy towards the end as he shuts his eyes to fall asleep. The fact that they mean so much to him is just so beautiful.
this isn't just an great anime movie or a great one piece movie, this is an INCREDIBLE animated movie and one of my favourites ever
If Luffy ever loses his crew, I can just picture him turning evil and going against the world government instead of just sailing around trying to find the one piece; cause the ones almost always targeting his crew is the navy
Feel like he talked with the chat longer then he watched the actual movie…
I was crying reeeeally hard the first time I saw this movie at 4 am. Like, so hard I almost couldn't see the captions. But this time it was a bunch of almost crying:) I'm making progress
The Director's name is Mamoru Hosoda, he also directed: Wolf's children, Belle and Summer Wars.
Strong World, Z, Gold, and Stampede all have loose direct connections with Oda's input on their plot, and the Red movie that is coming out soon had the first draft written by Oda himself. The rest of the movies had to have their plots approved by Oda anyways because he apparently had to control what kinds of devil fruit powers there are and limit the information on extra curricular stuff like Haki and what kinds of islands exist.
So the mustache guy was a reference to Charlie Chaplin a silent movie star. He had the same mustache but yeah Hitler ruined it forever.
32:24 one thing you need to know about the one piece world is that the durability of a human or even a child is beyond that of our real world. A kid from one piece would stomp you in a fight lol.
Fun fact: there was a man spying on the straw hats since they were there, he’s in the background with binoculars
I still remember when i first saw this movie. It feels like watching a horror but the story is just so sad :"(
This guy is just like Moria they represent Luffy if he lost everything and I love it
It’s crazy seeing One Piece take the Kirby approach with a final villain.
This is always gonna be my favorite one piece movie. Everything, from the art style and animation to the character design to the dark plot, is just perfection in my book. Truly a masterpiece. I just love it so much
If this was cannon instead of the Davy Back arc it would’ve been so cool. It’d be interesting and add to character if Luffy was called out for getting the crew in trouble 3 times (this(if it was cannon) thriller Bark, and sabaody) then with marineford. It’d add so much more depth to Luffy as a character if over time he learned to think ahead more or even had an issue of being overprotective of his crew for a while
I still don’t believe that Oda laid out the concept of Davy Back arc and just left it there. I think it will come back in some shape or form.
@@dima10656 I think Shanks and Luffy will have a davy back fight. Thats my theory
@@dima10656 It's possible he planned to do something more with it in the future as well, but dropped it because it's was overwhelmingly people's least favorite arc.
Okay ruff didn't like the noodle but I thought it was so unnatural and freaky, it's kinda like a flower stem with the top cut off and god i can only imagine how terrifying it is to people with trypophobia
My fav op movie! 😊 Love how unique it is, w/ both comedy and horror parts.
Ruff: my only complaint is they couldn't come up with a better than a noddle?
a minute later: 42:57
literally my favorite one piece movie ever. the atmosphere in this is just insanely good.
Where can I watch it
Oda apparently doesn't often watch the anime or movies, but you know he at a minimum snoops around and sees memes, screenshots, and clips. My personal theory is that because of this movie Oda realized Zoro looks good in a suit, so when Dressrosa rolls around and everyone gets disguises they all put on business casual and despite almost everyone having a change of clothes at some point Zoro stays dressed like that 90% of the arc.
he got lost and walked past the dressing room
"apparently"
@@Safalmao If you want specifics he said as much in interviews over the years and even a recent one where he explained that he doesn't want the anime direction to influence him too much while writing, so he usually only peeks at stuff, which includes avoiding most of the UA-cam channels that cover him.
Seems like a stretch. There’s been cover arts of Zoro wearing formal attire before this movie came out
I randomly stumbled upon this movie when I was a kid, can you imagine the horrors this movie brought me that time? This movie was burned at the back of my mind since then
Yeah I remember seeing this movie 15 years ago. I think it came out near the end of Enies Lobby? Because I remember when Movie 5 came out, and this would have been a year after that.
Personally I thought it was pretty good, definitely one of the better movies out of the originals, but boy opinions were super divided about it, especially when it was new.
Now, though, I think people have come to appreciate it more. It's aged pretty phenomenally.
This movie traumatized me in school, its soo good, but its scary af 🤣
Loved this movie when I first saw it.
Shares the same art style as Digimon the Movie 👍👍
Same director
Strong World is the closest thing to canon OP movie there is. A) Because it features a canon character that was referenced several times in the Manga. And B) Because there was a weeklong gap in the gap in-between Thriller Bark and Sabaody where it theoretically could've taken place.
Strong world is one of the most outlandish one piece movies there is, the majority of people who have seen it find it fairly obvious that it could never be canon, you think thats how oda would bring shiki back? the rival to rodger? all to just loose to pre time skip luffy and accomplish nothing in 20 years
@@Diabeto22 Yeah, I found it hard to believe that Shiki was on the levels of Kaido, Big Mom, Whitebeard, and Roger lol.
I showed this to a friend who's never watched One Piece before and he got really emotional. I'm caught up to the manga and hadn't seen this movie either but they told me to show this to a non One Piece watcher. Such a great film.
Fun fact: at the end when luffy defeated him luffy actually just killed him making luffy’s first and only kill in any movies/episode
the fact that the film was done by mamoru hosoda, is why the art style is like that. his style has a very simplistic but very motion filled look. the girl who leapt through time and digimon our war game are prob the 2 easiest examples.
Battle Cooking at its finest! The drip in this movie is on point! One of my favorites from the Digimon / Summer Wars animation crew!
Definitely the most interesting One Piece movie still to this day.
YES! I’m so happy you watched this! It’s my absolute favorite one piece movie thus far (we will see when the Red movie comes out) I highly recommend watching analysis videos on it if it’s something your interested in. ReturningSun has an amazing breakdown of it.
7:31 HAHAHAHA
I’ve been a fan of One Piece for 4 years now but never watched a single movie until yesterday. Now I’m watching them all in order and I’m really looking forward to this one.
Best One Piece movie imo. Even though Wano animation is great I still prefer this for the fluidity. The artstyle really suits One Piece too
unexpected but welcome reaction, its been so long and ive forgotten how good movie 6 is :D
This movie was the first feature-length film directed by Mamoru Hosoda, today one of the best known Anime-Directors. He did the first and second _Digimon_ Film, as well as one Episode each of _Digimon Adventure_ and _One Piece_ (ep.199, the first of the G8-Arc) before this, and then proceeded to direct _The Girl who leapt through time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast, Mirai_ and _Belle._ He was nominated for an Academy Award for _Mirai._
This is my favourite OP movie. I know it doesn't carry the same kind of hype as Z or the most recent movie, but I just love this movie.
I saw this Movie a while back in television. Glad you enjoyed it.
This was always my favorite OP movie, glad to see you reacting to it!
Honestly, all One Piece movies (Except for the recaps) have the potential to be canon, cause the world is so massive, but the actual story is timed so it's just hard to figure out the timing.
Strong World is the most canon though since it has elements brought up in the canon story
And it would be hard to place it in canon. Strong World and Z should be fairly easier, but Gold and Stampede would be harder because the straw hats split from Dressrosa until Wano and Luffy has Gear 4 in both of them, so you would have to alter the main story for it to fit properly. I think it was said that Red is happening after Wano though.
I’ve definitely seen this one, I think I watched it last year watched a bunch of the movies from someone’s Google drive they shared online. It’s definitely a different turn compared to the other movies.
i was SO confused when i first watched this movie XD
it's so wildly different that it almost doesn't feel like One Piece, but it's still so unique that it draws you in regardless. the artstyle, the usage of almost no music, the tone and storyline, it's all so DIFFERENT but i love it to bits
12:44 "Oh my God, they put him with Sanji." HAHAHAHAHAHA
Ah yes, this movie felt so non-One Piece and that's not a bad thing. XD
this is my favorite OP movie, from the art style to the writing, >w< it's fantastic
Not the ending
Okay i just watched it, this was crazy cool. Time to watch this now!!!
It's curious to consider, this is a precursor to Sabaody. Dodging the arrows like he dodges the Celestial Dragons bullets, punching the celestial so hard the colour goes, being driven to the point of despair by a vastly more powerful opponent seemingly killing his friends one by one. They even use the same animation style in episode 396.
this movies artstyle is something i strive for, the colors, the loosness, the flowiness and poses ugh gorgeous
I just yesterday and boy I did not expect him to post his reaction today
I think some of the same crew that worked on this, also worked on the Digimon Movie (Our War?) and Summer Wars. They have a very similar yet distinct animation style.
I was waiting for this reaction 😨
The Baron was already dead. Lily was a parasite once fully removed he would die.
I guess. Still, did the lunch kill him or did he die afterwards because of Lily? Just wondering
@@Master-Works once lily was no longer alive he more then likely died to rejoin the crew he loved so much. Luffy never kills his enemies.
@@Eszra Makes sense. Still, I have problems with the Wiki, the Wiki and some websites says he killed him. I found it a bit surprising considering several of his enemies got hit in the face before and survived. Therefore, I assumed that being hit in the face was not lethal in accordance with Cartoon (or in this case, anime) physics
@@Master-Works at one time the wiki said he killed crocodile in the past. True fans that pay attentions will know he doesn't kill. Your good though.
Still one of my favourite movies. Love this one
honestly the darkest one piece movie fr...
that flower scares me
Wow I can’t believe you found this movie and usually I don’t find one piece movies anymore on UA-cam I mean not the old ones
The director also did Summer Wars, Bakemono no Ko, Wolf Children and many others, he is one of the best anime movie directors of recent years, really recommend his other works.
This was one of the eeriest, creepiest, movie i have ever seen. It felt so...surreal with the reveal
40:25 i was expecting him to say he has a lot of bunkers
My humor has not changed in a year as I just said the same thing at the same time
This movie is what Thriller Bark could've been if Oda leaned into the full horror aspect.
One of my favorite OP movies with Strong World 😃 I love the art of Mamoru Hosoda and the way this movie is dark and like a horror movie!
It's the first movie I watched when I decided to watch all the movies!
7:31 Its so nice to have something so chill and comedic...🌻🙂
OH HELL YEA i love this movie! This shit takes a hard left turn omg.
When I talk to someone about one piece movies I always recommend this one. It's a creepy version of our favorite series.
It's my favorite One Piece movie; the art style was great and the plant-people reminded me a lot of Super Mario Sunshine. The visuals of the mustache captain guy is actually based on Charlie Chaplin, though it's understandable why people jump to Hitler. As for the flower monster, it's said to revolve around death and rebirth, hence why a flower is noticed at the end. Interestingly enough, the flower is called a carnation, yet neither the noodle or the Baron's flower are shaped like them; only that flower at the end is an actual yellow carnation. It's possibly that through the captain's desire to keep his crew alive forever that the flower became corrupted and took that shape. Speaking of the flower, the Baron's Lily is hinted at being the true flower near the end; making a chewing motion as the strawhats were being swallowed, for example. As for why the strawhats had more in-fighting that usual, it wasn't an ability of the baron or island, the baron was just implementing a lot of psychological warfare; saying all the right things and making all the right choices that would create arguments and fights.
I could go on and on about this movie, I love it so much. It's actually kinda sad that more people haven't seen it, it's definitely an experience.
I really love this movie. My fav together with Stampede.
Its funny how this is before ennies lobby so this is the time where robin thinks "ummm that was weeeeird i'm going to bail out, mkay?"
This movie is so fire
I didn't like that the movie changed a couple of integral aspects to their personality.
Edit: I give it a 7/10
I'm not sure if you just simply didn't include it or if I accidently missed it but the Baron's crew last message to just let them go was bittersweet.
LETS GOO THE HOROR MOVIE LOL
Kid luffy in the anime was paddling sort of but failing early on in one piece. But episode's later they said he becomes immobilized in water.
Before everyone called it the 'Hitler Moustache' it was called a toothbrush moustache.
I like this film animation style a lot for One Piece. The director work on Wolf Children after this film. I heard this film is after working for Hayao Mikayzaki and hating it and this films is based on Mikayzaki Sensei himself
One Piece becomes borderline Seinen on this movie.
Not super important, but the reason Luffy and Chopped weren't affected by the water splashed on this is because it was 'running' water. Oda said water that's moving, like rain, or the move Jinbe used at Marineford to get Luffy to the Admirals. Only 'standing water', like the ocean as a whole, drains them.
I like your Reaktion. Greetings from Germany
the noodle is fucking freaky as hell, like that shit is stuff you would see in lovecraftian horrrors, this arc clearly has lovecraft themes in it which is rather rare for one piece
I don’t know how I felt after this movie, but now I consider it one of the best OP films.
Oh wow, all the foreshadowing!!
thank god the recording didnt get deleted!! i couldnt possibly make it, and its one of my fav movies
edit: oh wait, this seems like it was recorded a long time ago
Noti gang
I actually really enjoyed this
"I'm at 369"
Ahh, pulled right from the archives
One thing I love about OP: Any time you think 'God, I hope someone punches this a-hole in the face' about a character, it is inevitably going to happen.
For information, the studio working on one piece is the same as dragon ball, it's Toei Animation.
Second point, the styles that you can find in different films is due to the studio, and more precisely to the director, who puts his style because the Toei pays for it.
One piece is one of the biggest license Toei won't let her go like that and neither will Oda.
Manh I was waiting for your reaction on fujitora fight....
I remember seeing this on twitch (you can see me on the feed DansSHIFT), one of my fave One Piece movies
Mamoru Hosoda is the director of this movie, he direct some famous movies
This is my favorite movie of One Piece before peak piece. I always watch this when I'm feeling melancholy coz of it's story. Literally Luffy almost lost his whole crew to Baron before Sabaody.
"Horror movie"
Me: Confused
Baron Omatsuri knocks on my memory
Oh that one.
