With all the possible choices out there today in the dating world, it always seems like an easy decision to just walk away and chase the next wave when the novelty wears off. The grass always seems to be greener until that person is gone. The perfect relationship is sought but it is impossible to attain.
We worshipped U2 when we were in high school...U2 has proved with this song...that feeling of a rush...a rush so strong and powerful that you either feel like crying or just listening and rockin' out...or both. U2 draws out a raw emotion in you.

i'm sure i'm wrong, but the song (not the video) seems to depict a relationship where both do love each other, but are not good for each other, and always seem to fight in some way, or something else that just makes the relationship, a complete mess however, this generalized idea could be extended out to other things "every gambler knows that to lose, is what you're really there for" does the gambler know that the gambler is there to lose.....or his opponent is there to lose.....i play to win, which is why i don't gamble, there are too many variables that i can't account for....i play video games, because i can learn the game, and win.......gambling would be the same.....i have to play and lose, to be able to learn how to win.....but, i am NOT about to spend that kind of money "summer i was fearless...now i speak into an answer phone"......is the second part an issue of fearful, or shy? But that is generally seen as a romantic, or even obsessive issue....."IF you go your way then i'll go mine" speaks more to the idea of two people who are wanting to go their separate ways, but can't bring themselves to do it......if you go, then i will too "are we so helpless against the tide"....the tide as in the waves "baby every dog on the street, knows that we're in love with defeat".....people who are attracted to toxic personalities "are we ready to be swept off our feet, and stop chasing, every breaking wave"...the breaking waves here would be the toxic persons........but this entire idea could also be understood as, lost causes, the underdog team, or protesting against one position, for a lost cause.......this itself could point to two sides of civil unrest "every sailor knows that the sea is a friend made enemy"......sailors talk about this concept all of the time.....but i usually here it in the reverse, an enemy turned into a friend.....but, i do here many times of the seas getting pissed, and unleashing it anger....so, yeah "and every shipwrecked soul knows what it is, to live without intimacy"....this is simple enough,....a person who is still part of a wreck, a broken relationship.....until they fix themselves, they won't find love. But the broken relationship doesn't have to be an ex-lover.....it could just as easily be a disfunctional family that you were raised in, and now, destined to be alone unless you fix yourself "i thought i heard a captain's voice, but it's hard to listen while you speak".....simple enough, an acknowledgment of arrogance and self-importnace "like every broken wave on the shore, this is as far as i could reach"......i don't understand this.
