I love how courteous it is of you to bleep Alexa. And I appreciate that you speak slowly and calmly instead of some of those really manic videos out there
Craig, I have a Xiaomi Mi9 and it comes with a extra button and you can have it so instead of running google assistant, You can choose Alexa as your assistant. That way you can just press the button at anytime in any app and it will automatically start listening for a command, Not to be confused with opening the Alexa app which would still lose the point, But again, Pressing the phones integrated extra button lets Alexa right away start listening to you and its really effective!
Great review of the hands-free feature on Alexa....fully agree it is one of the nice to have - but not certain when I would actually use it...? But as always appreciate your doing a great job of explaining how it works. Thanks..
Hi Craig it's been a while since i caught any of your streams so im glad i catch your video uploads , UA-cam is weird sometimes hahaha. I hope amazon makes the feature to where we can use it even when the screen is off and the app isn't open.
Maybe this has already been posted but when I wear my new Apple AirPods and say “hey Siri open Amazon Alexa” even when my screen is locked it opens it up and then I just say “Alexa play music” or whatever and it worked just fine completely hands free 😊. Loving all your videos Craig thanks so much 👍🏻
Step #1: On an iPhone a faster way would be to just create a shortcut in the “Shortcuts” App to Open Alexa App. Step #2: Then go to Settings> Accessibility> Touch> Back Tap> then either choose double tap or triple tap and choose the shortcut that you just created in step #1. Once everything is setup you juts have to double tap or triple tap the back of your iPhone to launch 🚀 the Alexa App. I chose triple taps to prevent accidental openings of the Alexa App. Your phone still needs to be unlocked but this method is much quicker to activate Alexa on an iPhone. No need to even talk to Siri.
Is the echo 4th gen good ive never used any off these but idk I want to use smart lights ive been using gove does echo 4th gen come with alexa? What are the best smart lights/cheapest ive been going with gove rbg strips i just need an alexa app! But the echo 4th gen is only $5.00 is it worth it?
It’s working here in the UK Craig 👍🏻 I wonder if there will ever be a day when we can choose our own personal assistant, regardless of our chosen ecosystem?
It's completely dumb you can't have multiple assistants. They all use different startup commands. It should be possible to use Google assistant to control your navigation and Alexa to control amazon music, on the same phone.
I’m not much of a technological social butterfly so I often find myself searching for the how to’s of this, that and everything in between; tonight as I Googled how to use Alexa in conjunction with my iOS products (cuz I’m a die hard Apple🍏girl), I was led straight to your page…site? I dunno which is correct LOL! Anyway, I just wanna say thanx for the time & effort you put in to explaining (and without sounding like you’re dumbing it down LOL!) to those of us that need help understanding the “how to’s and what’s this new app do” in this exciting age of technological genius. So, thank you Craig…thank you very much! ~S
I have the Amazon Prime Exclusive Alexa hands free LG V35 UNLOCKED phone. I haven't used the Alexa app and software yet but glad I have it when I do use it.
I feel like at that point you might as well just use your phone's built-in assistant, given its properly hands free and does the same tasks in most cases. Especially if you use your phone's assistant to launch the Alexa app
I agree with you about that. I think it is good to use either Siri or Google Assistant on top Alexa. Like you said it does the same task and more. Why take the extra steps to have to stay with Alexa. Thanks for checking out the video. Have a good day Tom.
Excellent! Thanks Greg. Yes I will use this. I was just saying to a friend yesterday that I really really really need an Alexa in my old Tesla. While driving I keep wanting to ask Alexa to add to a list, tell me what's on a list or set a reminder or whatever. Now, on my Moto G6, I can just ask Google to open the Alexa app and ask Alexa without having to click buttons. I wonder if she'll come through the car speakers like the phone calls do...
Thanks for great info. Not sure if I'll do that but I'm learning that zigbee on Alexa is a very good option. I've connected bulbs door sensors but I can't figure out if there's any plugs that I can connect I'm sure I'll find one of your interesting pieces of work with that information thanks again have a wonderful day and stay safe
From Amazon website "Open the Alexa app . Go to the settings menu . Select Settings. Select Flash Briefing. Select the toggle next to each news service you want to add to your Flash Briefing. To change the order of your selected news programs, select Edit."
Hi dear friend, I wanted to update because updating the Amazon app works without a problem in Israel as well, but as you explained, you should first ask Google to open the Amazon app and then everything works without hand contact
Thanks for these tips. I use Echo buds, and occasionally when I say the wake word, it says to unlock my phone first, and when I'm riding a bike or something, that's not always easy, but I'll try using the Google assistant to unlock the phone and open the app.
Hey Crig So I got My mom A Echo Pop I already Have a Echo dot but Am Confused on How to Add Them to My Account to Be Able to Drop In and Make Calls Can You Tell me How
Thank you for another honest video with good information about Alexa. As you stated, I can't see using this "hands-free" option when "Hey Google" will accomplish everything that you demonstrated herein. The ONLY thing that is appealing is to say the one word wake up, "Alexa" rather than the the 2 word "Hey Google."
Thanks Craig. I have a Samsung Note 10+ and when the phone is locked you can open it with the Bixby feature, hands free, "Hi Bixby, open the Alexa app".
Hi Craig, I know this video is two years old, do you know if there's any update to this, or can you still not wake Alexa when phone unlocked (eg via earphones or bixby button)?
Yeahhhhhhh I don’t think I’d use it. I pretty much put echoes throughout the entire house so that’s enough hands free for me lol. Thanks for vid as always!!
Graig I just received my show 5 when i say play fm station it says that device is of line when i sat play a song it says that device is not on line If i send it from my phone it all works help
Hi Craig! My Amazon after 3 weeks sent me the new echo dot, I don’t know if you remember me telling you about amazon losing my echo dot, the new one has arrives
I do remember you telling me you hadn't received it. That is great to hear your new one arrived. I am glad that Amazon made it right for you. Thanks for checking out the video and the update.
I have echo frames and they were great to get Alexa hands free, but still have Siri. I also found out by accident that if wanted noise cancellation listening and not open ear hearing I can put in my air pod pros and hear from them. Some advice connected the frames first so that the volume goes through the pods and not the frames and second don’t use the touch pad on the frames or the sound will switch over
Interesting. Just checked for it on my Moto G6 (not a great phone) and it's there. Not sure how well this will work in the car, where I sometimes use google to read text messages, with very mixed results. Don't suppose you've experimented with that with Alexa, have you?
Hi Craig. Sometimes when I open Alexa on my Samsung A50 phone, I get a card that says "Access Alexa from Any Screen. Make Alexa the default, then long press your phone's Home button and just ask." While its not the same, it does allow quick access to Alexa. Settings- Device Assistant app- Device Assistant app (again) and pick Alexa
Hello Frank, that option is not available on iOS. I can see how that would be even more useful then this feature. At least you can access Alexa from any screen. Thanks for sharing and watching.
I have already used the alexa app as a hands free option. The other day my fire tv remote wasnt working. My nearest echo didnt lustened so I used alexa on my phone to find something to play. Might br useful for timers and ask questions. Just like siri.
It reminds me of wireless charging we still need a wire to the charger the phone goes on so it is not completely wireless but i guess the ap could be opened manually then left to use Alexa.
I'm sure I saw it flash up the other day but ignored it. I was in my car and wanted to switch on the hall light. I wondered what it was and just told Alexa to turn on the hall light the usual way. I'm in the UK. I'll have to go have a look again.
My senario is currently: Currently using Alexa on my Iphone. When I ask her my schedule she gives me my Iphone Calendar schedule. My question is once I buy a DOT, my Iphone is off or locked. I then ask Alexa (using DOT) what is my schedule. Will she be able? Or is she getting the info from my Apple Icloud Calendar.
i got a motorola one zoom of amazon with a alexa built in yesterday and alexa is suppose to be hands free and even when the screen is locked but it is crap recourse it does not work but the phone is nice and google works but alexa is rubbish on it.
real world use scenario is when you get a new one keep the old one plugged in and permanently unlocked with the app open and you have yourself an echo .....or trade it in and buy an echo if its worth more
I think that would be great. An echo or fire phone is something Amazon needs to keep staying competitive. I hope you are right. Hope you are doing well.
Craig, I'm willing to accept the shortcomings that make the Hands Free Alexa feature less than optimal. I have an iPhone 12 and I do use Face ID to unlock my phone and your suggestion to have another app running so the phone remains unlocked is an acceptable work-around for me. So, what I'm wondering is how can I stop Echo Auto Mode (which I don't think even existed when you made this video) from launching every time I get in my car with the Alexa app open? I haven't gone through the Auto Mode setup process because I'm trying to avoid pairing the Alexa app with my car's bluetooth since all I want to do is have access to Alexa if I want to ask a question on my commute to and from work, so just getting audio responses through my phone's speaker is good enough. I actually own the Amazon Echo Auto device but found it to be quite buggy when I first set it up when it was initially released (I got the 50% off deal they were offering at the time). I initially thought my car's bluetooth (2015 Mazda CX-5) was the problem but based on the many negative reviews of the Echo Auto device it seems it had more to do with the device itself. Anyway, even though I've been able to bypass the Auto Mode pop-up, I can't get Alexa's responses to play audio through my phone, I'm just getting a typed message to my queries which of course is not acceptable at all due to safety concerns. In summary, I'd like it if the Echo Auto Mode didn't launch every time I get in my car and I'd like for Alexa's responses to play through my iPhone 12 and not through my car's speakers. Any suggestions on how I might be able to accomplish these things would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Update: I couldn't get Alexa's responses to play through my phone's speaker, I'm assuming because my phone is paired with the bluetooth in my car, so I decided to give the Alexa app's Echo Auto Mode a try and it seems to be working fine. So, what I do is open the Alexa app before I get in my car, launch Auto Mode if the setting to do it automatically isn't turned on (I found out where that setting is 😊) and I'm all set, no other app needs to be open in order to keep the Alexa app open when Auto Mode is running so Alexa is all ready to respond. There is one caveat here though which is, I need to first push the Bluetooth button on my car's Infotainment Touch screen before I can interact with the Alexa app (to play Amazon Music or for any other interaction). When I'm done I just press the FM button to get back to listening to the radio.
I cannot get my Alexa Echo Dot speakers to send my correct CALLER ID when I'm making a standard Alexa-to-phone call. The person I'm calling does not answer the call because the CALLER ID shows up as some random phone number from another state, so the person I'm calling refuses the call and will not answer. How can I get ALEXA to send my regular, standard, correct CALLER ID?
sir i am having problem in my new MI redmi note 9 pro phone ,i have opened alexa and enabled handsfree mode but it does note works in home screen and over other apps it only works when we keep the alexa app open . Please help

I like the feature. I like the work around. No need for echo auto? Also working in the UK.
I had not given it a thought until you mentioned it. You are correct though...no need for the Echo Auto. Thanks.
Love you lamps in the background
Hoping Apple adds a feature for changing default voice assistant like they did with the default browser they added recently.
Always learn something from you Craig! Hope you and the family are well!
Thank you Jim, I appreciate it. The family and I are doing well. I hope you are doing well too. Stage say my friend.

Thanks Stephen for the update. I never know where these features become available. Thanks for checking out the video.

Thanks Craig. I don’t think I’d use this much for the very reasons you outlined.

Works hands free nicely with echo buds
Everytime u say alexa you can't hear it???? Make another plss

Hi Craig. Thanks for thebupdate

hands-free Alexa on the iphone has been available for a long time on the Amazon Music app 😉
although not all commands supported!
I think I will find this useful to trigger my “I’m on my way home” routine so Alexa can adjust my thermostat.
In México is available too
In Venezuela is also available.
Can you do lip singing through your phone into your speaker

How do I get rid of Bloomberg news briefing on my echo dot 3rd gen. I get a long broadcasting of it.
From Amazon website "Open the Alexa app
