    Why is Prague called Prague?
According to one version, the Czech capital got its name from the word “threshold”. According to legend, Libuše, an ancient ruler and ancestor of the Czech kings, had the gift of providence and bequeathed to found a city where the river makes a bend and “a man hews away the threshold of his house.” Libuse's servants found such a man in the forest, where Prague was later founded.
By the way, the Czech Republic got its name from a governor named Czech, who brought his people to these lands at the turn of the 7th-8th centuries. But about 1000 years before that, the Celtic tribe of Bohemia lived here, from which the German name for the Czech Republic came - Bohemia.
There are 16 major bridges in Prague, including railway ones. In addition, there are many small bridges leading to the islands. The famous Charles Bridge, the calling card of the city, began to be built in the mid-14th century, and was completed only in the 15th century.
Prague is famous not only for its magnificent bridges, but also for its unusual towers, of which there are a great many in the city. Thus, according to the calculation of the philosopher and mathematician Bernardo Balzano in 1810, there were 103 towers in Prague, not counting the towers of private houses and water towers. According to modern estimates, there are more than 1000 towers in Prague. It even has its own Eiffel Tower: the Petrišná Tower completely replicates the design and appearance of its Parisian “sister”.
Prague Castle, an ancient fortress and castle on a hill on the left bank of the Vltava, is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest presidential residence and the largest ancient castle in the world.
Beer is such a popular drink in the Czech Republic that it is included in a huge number of amazing Czech dishes. In Prague you can try at least 20 types of beer soups, beer okroshka, beer pancakes, fish stewed in beer and Bohemian beer goulash.
