    These units are moved with the brakes isolated. The wagons are there to provide brake force . The locomotive doesn’t operate the brakes on these units. Brake continuity is provided by running air lines through the units being dragged, you can see the hose feed through the cab window. Either the brakes on the 777 have not been isolated or the parking brake has somehow applied.

      Yep thats how we moved the Heathrow Express 332s to Willesden for tyre turning. A real pain in the A running that through pipe.

    Interesting watching the driver check the brakes - they’re discs so he needs to get inside of the wheels, which probably requires an isolation of the 3rd rail. As for the wheels with dragging brakes - they’re gonna need replacement wheel sets. Wonder if the train had a 777 qualified fitter or driver as part of the crew make up?

      They'll check it at Walton or something where there based where the proper fitters are.

    Hmm, 🤔 the brakes are supposed to be isolated as they're different from regular loco-hauled train brakes, that's why all those wagons are there to provide brake force. Looks like someone (probably when it was parked overnight) left a parking brake on 😖

    • @susansmith3568
      @susansmith3568 3 місяці тому

      The brakes on the 777
      Are exactly the same as the 66
      Air brakes if the brakes were isolated the barrier wagons would be on the rear of the 777
      Because if the brake was isolated and the 777 became detected the 777 could runaway
      What happened here was the driver never pressed the brake over charge button hence dragging brakes

      Sorry, you are incorrect.
      777s are transported with the brakes isolated and through piped. On many videos you can see a temporary brake pipe that goes through the cab side window, it runs the length of the train and out the other end to connect to the trailing translator and brake force wagons. They've been transported like that from the very beginning. I've seen it first hand when the train reverses at Sandhills station to access Kirkdale depot.

      Why is it comedy gold?
      777s have tread brakes, not inboard discs, so it is possible to see if the brakes have released from the four foot. I was watching a 777 at Hamilton Square the other day, even from the opposite platform (Ellesmere Port/ Chester platform) it's possible to watch the brakes release.
      Did you expect him to crawl underneath it?

      Additional brake force.
      The 777s are hauled with the brakes isolated and through piped. There is a temporary brake pipe that runs the length of the unit to connect with the trailing translator and brake force wagons. That way the driver has control of the brake on the wagons, and should the consist separate, the unbraked 777 is sandwiched between braked vehicles or the locomotive depending on the formation.

    2024 and we are still moving units around "swinging" in the breeze with brake force runners because of stupid compatibility issues with coupling and brake systems. Under BR everything was compatible bar a few exceptions with either buckeye and/or screwlink and buffers. Not only that these moves don't even have a second man on them to assist with moments like this. The modern railway is an absolute clown show.
