SPY SMASHER is one of the finest serials ever made. It is Republic at the peak of their serial output and was solo directed by the legendary William Witney, who is the greatest action director who ever lived. This is masterpiece of the serial form directly inspired Indiana Jones and virtually EVERY action film that followed. It sets, raises and DESTROYS the bar in terms of action to the degree that you cannot believe the fluidity and sheer dynamism of the action being performed in all 12 chapters. The opening chapters build slowly and more realistically which allows the actors a chance to get some character development in. The music is fantastic, the practical location use is perfect, the characters at least resemble their comic book origins and most of all my word the action is SUBLIME.
SPY SMASHER remains one of the greatest action films ever made, an OUTSTANDING serial which ranks in every fan's top 10 and top 5 lists and on that is APPALLINGLY stuck as an old early 1980's VHS master of worn cropped print scans. This is one of the most important serials that needs a new scan BADLY. If ever there was a serial that cried out for a 4K scan and UHD, SPY SMASHER is that serial.
SPY SMASHER is simply put: a work of art.
