@@tywayne3 yeah, they call this the "original version" and censored the blatant Christmas innuendos when in actuality the original version is on the the "LaFace Family Christmas" album Even in the hook, they switched the last words; instead of "when the Player's Ball is happening all day e'ry day" the original words "when the Player's Ball is happening on Christmas day"
Sleepy Brown’s vocals were sung in the style of the late great Curtis Mayfield on this one. Salute to the legendary production team, Organized Noise. 🫡
Yes, this is a Christmas song. It was originally released on the compilation album "A LaFace Family Christmas" And in the original hook Sleepy Brown sings "When the Player's Ball is happening on Christmas Day" instead of "All day eeryday". Many peoples first exposure to Outkast. I was 20 years old when it dropped back in '93, and have been a fan ever since.
Yep. The record label insisted that the do a Christmas song, which they really didn't want to. When they realised that they really had to, they did it on their terms, and this masterpiece was the result. Not at all what the label wanted, but how lucky are we all that it's what they got.
Saw Outkast when they dropped Aquemeni album in a small ass venue. They played different parts of this song three times throughout the concert - they opened with it, came back to it in middle and then closed the show out with it.
Deep. You wanna go deep i'll take you deep, you know you phucked up when you let my mind creep, deeper than a page of a book, let me look. Yeah man, that album is fire.
I grew up listening to this and just realized all the x-mas bars it had in it. I always wondered why he said "So tell me what did you expect? You thought I'd break my neck, to help y'all deck, the, the Oh naw, I got other means of celebratin'" 🤦🏾♂️
Man!!! I remember when this dropped. I was 21 years old and Outkast was sickwitit when this came out. ATL was officially put on the map worldwide by The Dungeon Family, Outkast and Goodie Mob. Not to mention, EVERY Outkast album cover and video was like an upgraded version of the old school Earth Wind and Fire album covers my generation came up astral traveling to. Dope reaction video!
yeeooooo hands down the hottest album they ever, from hoooty hoooo, crumbling herb, players ball and ain't no thang but a chicken wing definitely peep this whole track yall will not be disappointed FACTS
I remember getting this single as a promo. I was doing radio, and the label was looking for airplay. The album wasn't out, and no one outside of ATL knew who OutKast were. Soon as I heard it, I was like yooo, this is going to be HUGE.
Man when this album out it really started a hardcore rising of the south. We had groups like the Getto Boys and UGK but Outkast really hit the mainstream scene hard. The rest is history on how Atlanta came hard in the Hip hop Industry. Da Brat followed and then Goodie Mob.
Yeah this is a Christmas song lol it was originally on LaFace's Christmas compilation album. Way more Christmas bars on that version. They redid it and put it on this album
Not going to front, this was an introduction for me to that southern flow. I was strictly on that NYC flow being from Philly. They had this playing on regular radio every hour at a time when regular rap was barely making it on the rotation as the radio station just got off that "No rap work day" kick when they only played Hammer during the day.
They didn't overlap. _U Can't Touch This_ dropped in 90 and _2 Legit 2 Quit_ was 91 ... Outkast's first album was in 94, so their competition on the radio (especially in Philly) was Craig Mack, Coolio and Warren G, who all had only one hit, but they played constantly. _Creep_ by TLC, _Nuttin But Love_ by Heavy D, _Whatta Man_ by Salt-n-Pepa, and _I'll Make Love To You_ played at least once an hour, plus you had Nas, Big, Bone Thugs, Wu-Tang and Cypress Hill. Hammer was up against Naughty by Nature, Tribe Called Quest, LL Cool J, and Public Enemy.
This is a Xmas song...and their best album in my opinion...im from college park Atlanta Georgia, so the album is a real portrait of Atlanta back then...and the beats are made by organized noise
Its a Christmas song but for the hood .😂 when they first got signed L.A. REID was throwing one out of many Christmas. Party's and he also uses it as entertainment for his guests so they can be exposed to performing in front of people and being on stage . The artist P!NK , and TLC were also on roster that night .
There is no such thing as a bad Oukast album. Andre deserves all his praise. Big Boi is disturbingly slept on and overlooked. Both are amazingly consistent thru all their albums. Track selection sets a pretty high bar from jump. You get hooked on them from Jump street. Atliens 👽 is arguably my favorite
This album easily sits in my top 10 of all time. It was not my introduction to the South. That would have to be Geto Boys and 8Ball & MJG. But it was my intro to Atlanta for sure. A perfect mix of playa and hope. Southern consciousness done proper .
This is the 1st release for them. It was for the LaFace holiday album. They were reluctant to submit a Xmas song so they submitted this as kinda an anti song. They didn't want their 1st light to be a pop song so they came funky with it.
This was the world’s introduction to OutKast. LA Reid used a Christmas compilation album to introduce audiences to the new stable of artists recently signed to the label. This was newly signed OutKast’s entry for the album: A Laface Family Christmas.
It's crazy because as much as I love this song, I actually like the reprise remix better. The whole remix wasn't on the album but the remix with just the chorus was. My favorite Outkast album.
They call this the "original version" and censored the blatant Christmas innuendos (mainly Dre's verse: shut up that nonsense about some silent (night) & you'd thought I'd break my neck to help y'all deck the (halls)?) when in actuality the original version is on the the "LaFace Family Christmas" album Even in the hook, they switched the last words; instead of "when the Player's Ball is happening all day e'ry day" the original words were "when the Player's Ball is happening on Christmas day"
When this first came out.. this was the only song I liked on this album... I love the album now, but this was the only song I played for the first year it came out.. 😂😂😂😂
I went to see OutKast at Lala! In my opinion they are the greatest Hip-hop group of all-time! Every CD sounds completely different from the next and they are all great music!! Innovative, creativity and just Greatness! That's OutKast!
It's just another day at work to me, the spirit just ain't in my. grab my pistol and my ounce, see what them junkies got to give me cause it's like that.
You can play this album str8 thru. I remember this in like 4th grade and I'm 41. People ain't even know who Outcast was in my area. I been following the Dungeon Family ever since. Sleepy Brown, Goodie Mob, Witch Doctor, Young Bloods, Slim Calhoun
Yes it's a Xmas song by the jingles in the background and the lyrical references to Xmas and NYE. It was their first single and was on the La Face Xmas album. The MUCH BETTER BANGIN VERSION was the remix for the video and on the Southernplayistic album...which the ENTIRE ALBUM WAS A BANGER and Southern hip hop classic standard in the mid 90s that actually started the rise of Southern hip hop that took over the whole game by the early 2000s!
Pain,Struggle, Realism, Energy, Overload of Bars is what you'll 👂 hear when 👀 seeing (LA Leakers Ray Vaughn) 📽️ video.. This word-play is 🍌 bananas and the bars never 🛑 stop coming. You can thank me later after do a reaction to this 📽️ video. PEACE ✌️.

Peace King. Peace to the Family. You been doing nothing but classics in 2023. This my shit! Like I always say, you the best doing this shit and keep being great King💯💪🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sleepy Brown, or Sleepy as those of us who know call him is one of the best hook masters in the game, I would put him and Nate Dogg at the top of that list. He is an underated artist with a few albums that were ATL classics. Check out "Oh Ho Hum" off the "Mr. Brown" album, and one of my favorite slow songs ever "Private Party" off of the Sleepy's Theme - The Vinyl Room album!

I was just starting high school when this shit came out. So much game was taught my this album. But hold on, why no video? BTW, backstory, this track... The record company wanted a Christmas stuff song like Hollis Queens type shit, but they were like fuck that, this is what we do on Christmas. Coke rum and Indo fill my body where's the party.
This whole album deserve a spin in my opinion.
No doubt!
Fuck yeah
Absolutely 💯
Absolutely 😊

This is actually a Christmas song. LA Reid wanted them to make one but they put their own twist to it.
Funny, I think I really noticed the sleigh bells recently.

Curtis Mayfield was his uncle.
One of the most original and influential rap duos of all time. They helped put Atlanta on the map.

This is my fav OutKast album. Sleepy Brown was the hook. Check out the documentary on Organized Noize. They didn’t sample
Saw Outkast when they dropped Aquemeni album in a small ass venue. They played different parts of this song three times throughout the concert - they opened with it, came back to it in middle and then closed the show out with it.
This whole album is worth checking out. A lot of good tracks on it
Deep. You wanna go deep i'll take you deep, you know you phucked up when you let my mind creep, deeper than a page of a book, let me look. Yeah man, that album is fire.
LA Reid wanted a Christmas album from everyone signed to his label & that's what Outkast came up with
The original song was Christmas song on the LaFace Christmas album, but they took out a lot of the Christmas stuff for OutKast's album.
Bro I’ve listened to this song 1Million times… the Christmas Bars totally went over my head… Andre even ended it with a Happy New Year🤯

One of my top 5 Hip-Hop songs. Possibly #1. Be sure to check out the extended mix. Better beat and some of the best drums on a song ever.
One of my faves by OutKast

Please review this album young King. This is my favorite Kast album hands down.
I love this version but that Player's Ball Remix is my joint!!
This is an early 90s Christmas song by the way lol
This is why 90’s hip hop is Golden

This was Outkast first single. The video was directed by Puffy. Gotta check out the Players' Ball reprise version. Super dope.
This came out when I was in 7th grade. Later in the same school year, Regulate came out, those two songs stayed in constant rotation.
The song that started it all. And the rest is history

You need to dig into Eminem's favorite rapper, Red man's catalog. He has my favorite delivery of all time. Him and method man together is unreal.
I revisited this album recently, and it's scary how good it holds up, among the other albums after this. Cannot wait for your reaction!!
