Let's remember, US, UK and other countries never objected to the recognition of Somaliland but looked for another country specially in the continent to do it first. Ethiopia as well wanted to be the second and not first for reasons we all know. But this MoU and recognizing Somaliland is the right thing for Ethiopia to defend and ensure it's fulfilled. Somaliland and Ethiopia, can change the dynamics of the whole region of the horn (Ethiopia, Eritrea, DJibouti, Somaliland and Somalia). It will be first step for a united horn. We want Ethiopia stand up for Somaliland as a BIG brother.

  • @issaal-hashemi4581

Ethiopia is on the right side on this and must not be black mailed. The MoU must be translated to a full fledge comprehensive agreement and not just the two countries that will benefit from this but the whole rrgion, the Horn of Africa. If Ethiopia gives in for the pressure and annuls the agreement with Somaliland, it will be a huge mistake and a missed opportunity. Concluding this agreement is the corner stone and key for a strong successful Ethiopia. If Ethiopia gives in for pressure, then it has chosen to be led instead of leading. It has chosen to be weak and controlled. It has missed the opportunity to be great, listened and respected.

The Ethiopian ethnic state was fashioned according to the British formula known as Lancaster template. This template was applied to British colonies at Independence. This was the case in Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya. These states suffer ethnic wars. They solved their ethnic conflicts through decentralization, Nigeria from 3 states to 36 states, that is 12 times; Uganda from 45
districts to 135 districts; Kenya from 8 provinces to 47 county. The solution to Ethiopia is to create 68 states, one for each zone, from the existing 14 killil , one zone to one state, and create a presidential system with two senators for each state. Each zone/state is represented by population size in the House of Representatives. We then have a decentralized federal government and a president.

  • @TH-qk6ez

With all due respect to the Ambassador, I challenge his comparison of Switzerland with Ethiopia when it comes to the viability of ethnic politics..as he rightly said being wealthy might indeed help, but the fact that Switzerland has only 4 or so well developed languages and it can practically be implemented, and the non-existence of geopolitical challenge is also a major difference...but I think it is about time we call spade a spade and accepted the fact that ethnic federalism in Ethiopia is an imported geopolitical weapon to destabilize and potentially Balkanize Ethiopia and the region at large..My question is what is so unique about Ethiopia being ethnically divers? and why is ethnic politics imposed on Ethiopia based on languages? Should every language in the world seek to be a country? 200 countries out of Tanzania, 40 out of Kenya, 9 out of ERITREA or even 3 out of tiny Djibouti...?
Some people may like the idea of ethnic identity but in the case of Ethiopia on what historical or legal ground would you implement ethnic boundary drawn by a minority group from the north?..on what ground should any ethnic group who doesn't agree with the land rationing accept the partitioning ????...and how long should the experiment last...50 years 100 years...how many more years of destruction ?...when some groups try to cling on to something that has not worked for decades, then it is safe to say vested interest at stake !!!

Ambassador when it comes to extreme polarization and hatred amongst political parties i think your country is in a more fragile situation than any other country on Earth. Therefore rather than crossing the pond and talk about the unfixable and toxic Ethiopian politics i urge you to look inward and try to find a panacea for your own internal politics. With regard to the hydro politics of the Nile Basin there is a convention that guides trans boundary rivers and all parties must respect and abide to the guidelines. There is no such thing as " Welahi we don't harm you " unbiased binding water sharing agreement is a must and you have to promote this view if you sincerely wish the overall betterment of Ethiopia that you love.

Ethiopia's ethnic federal system has empowered groups that were historically marginalized under the previous unitary system, giving them political autonomy and a voice in governance. Communities such as the Somali, Oromo, Tigray, Afar, and others have benefited from this arrangement, allowing them to protect their cultural identities and manage their own regional affairs. As a result, the majority of Ethiopians,
approximately 90%, now support the federal system, which promotes inclusivity and regional autonomy. However, a small minority, including some in the Amhara community, who traditionally held more centralized power, have been critical of the system. They often dominate media platforms and spread misinformation about the federal structure, despite its widespread popularity across the country.
Only around 10% of the population favors a return to the unitary system.

Somalia is a sovereign nation along 1960 borders. Such audacity to question where Somali borders are. He has such hatred for Somalia. Ethiopia MOU is illegal period, such hypocrisy. The law has nothing to with your feelings. Remember Ethiopia as an enemy has always been a uniting factor in Somalia. Somalia tried to move on from past animosity but Ethiopia has used Somalia to deflect it internal balkanisation problems. Somaliland has 2/3rd of the tribes supporting unity with Somalia as the face constant arrest and genocide from the Somaliland government. Even Somaliland defence minister resigned due to MOU with Ethiopia as he said Ethiopia government is an enemy to Somali people. Hence Somali people are united just need to get Ethiopia out and get rid of the Federal system that does not support Somali people who are one ethnic group with no difference. We will get rid of these politicians who are foreign agents trying create artificial issues that don't exist.

Spelling error: it is “looming”. Please fix it. “Loo" is a British term for toilet.

Let me first thank you for this great interview. Give credit where it is due.
You said What they call the Tigray War? Hmm.
Mr Teshome, there was no a war known as in Northern Ethiopia. You know it very well that it was by and large a Tigray War. Yes, the war has later expanded to the Amhara and the Afar regions and caused death and destruction in the two Regional States as well. But no where at the scale of the willful and wanton death and destruction perpetuated against the people of Tigray by an array of internal and invited external enemies never known in the history of Ethiopia.
The "War in Northern Ethiopia" was a term deliberately coined by the regime and used by regime apologists (like you) to downplay and coverup the incalculable crime (I will not use the term genocide because I know it makes you so nervous) committed against the people of Tigray.
You may have a million reason to hate the TPLF. The people of Tigray had been and continued to be the primary victims of the authoritarian rule of the TPLF. But your sentimental hatred and animosity towards the poor people of Tigray is beyond comprehension and hard to fathom.
How do you think this country will heal and move forward if you lack an iota of sympathy to your fellow citizens who suffered at the hands brutal (I won't say again genocidal) internal and external forces.
I know you will brush aside this comment as submitted by what you love to call them the digital Woyanes. But not all who criticize you are woyane. As long as you continue to add more salt into our wounds, we will continue to respond. .
    A Luta Continua.

Two main contradicting points from this propagandist.
He mentions that nobody cares, nobody knows, no president of the US know anything about Ethiopia, basically you don't matter... and finally in closing he says .... This region is very critical and one of the world's most strategic point in that seem to matter to every big powers of the world sitting at Djibouti and watching every move we make....
He tries to tongue lash the interviewer's idiotic obsession with far fetched word salads like "going for a straw" "broke the camels back" bla bla..... as Ethiopians ego filled vacuous conversation style that leads to nowhere or NO solution. Even Economist magazine said the same thing trying to insult Meles and his weird " arcane " misuse of English words he doesn't understand well.
If he slaps this interviewer, am sure he apologizes for not moving away his face quick enough for his glorious hand gestures.
    Werada banda!😁
