At the tail end of his talk Erik Prince mentions the Iran-Contra affair. At 55:42 he says, "And there was 20 covert action findings that were signed. One of whom, the one you heard about was the Iran-Contra, which, after Congress went through all its noise, reauthorized that program." His claim is as erroneous as his grammar. Congress neither authorized nor reauthorized the Iran-Contra program. It was a secret illegal and unconstitutional operation orchestrated by the National Security Council and Oliver North. When the operation was exposed the American people were appalled. President Reagan's job approval dropped 16%. The "noise" Prince refers to? House and Senate hearings that went on for 3 months and were broadcast live on all the major news networks. Oliver North and National Security Adviser were fired. 14 officials were indicted on multiple charges. A December 1986 Gallup poll found that 79% of the American public disapproved of the Reagan administration using profits from weapons sales to Iran for military support of the Nicaraguan Contras. I suspect that Erik Prince was confident that that Oxford student's unfamiliarity with the details of the Iran-Contra scandal that occurred long before they were born would allow him to get away with a bit of propaganda dear to his heart and wallet.
It would be interesting to know his source, because he says it quite confidently and off the cuff. Im a bit dubious of your comment as well mind you, because you speak like you know 110% what happened, but there was of course so much of what went on that is ambiguous. Like for example, did the polls ask respondents if they though the American government should just let Us citizens be detained by hostile regimes? The answer to that is usually an emphatic 'no'...but exactly what does one do about it without going to war, for which the usual answer is an emphatic 'no'.
I think he was referring to the intelligence authorization act in 86 Congress relaxing it's stance on funding the contras and allowing more loopholes to funnel money and allowing the CIA to train the Contras. Plus Congress authorized the use of funds through the National Security Council, which some Reagan officials used to aid the Contras and were not prosecuted for because it was specifically excluded. I don't believe Congress authorized the sale of military equipment and weapons to Iran to be used to then aid the Contras fight. But maybe he misunderstood.
The conversation was actually very substantive. I was expecting a lot of ad hominem for his background (not sure about the comment section). Freedom of speech and private property rights can be limited based on who is in power. I experienced both in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. And the bugs limiting my rights are public private militia members.
I'm not sure how he can talk about a return to a 'rules-based order' with a straight face. Whose rules? Certainly not rules in line with the international community or UN Charter.
I'm glad I gave this one a chance and listened to the first few minutes. It's one of the best presenters that I've seen lately (haven't watched all sessions though), surprisingly good presentation and content. This man was one of the few that had access and that saw the need to abandon traditional warfare methods way before the military industrial complex was allowing anything similar to be discussed with people in power. Also for the Brits watching, I'm VERY sorry about what the administration did to you guys when they pulled out. While there's a lot of competition for negative consequences due to Biden's decisions, it's possible that the Afghanistan withdrawal will be one of the most damaging decisions the current administration has made in the U.S when we are looking back at this in 10 years. Hopefully I'm completely wrong, and the Taliban will surprise us and do an amazing job as an ally to the US and Britain and use our equipment to protect life and liberty in the Middle East. I probably wouldn't bet on it though.
They should have never been in Afghanistan. This Eric is a criminal who was employed by USA. Probably still is. He wanted a new contract to go kill more people.

As per his own offered example, if China built the Great Wall to protect themselves on land then what’s the problem with a “Great Wall” on sea? Why should there be ill-consequences to defensive measures on one’s own borders?
Absolutely! Put your boots on the ground and do something, then talk about it. Eric Prince is impressive, but he makes far too much sense to be politically acceptable or expedient unless you’re a victim! If you’re just interested in furthering your political career, and not actually saving lives, then he’s just another sacrificial lamb…and everyone who works with him! Disgusting state of affairs!
I liked his earlier answer on Taiwan, that was to stuff some duffel bags with a lot of cash, and travel to those places where a nuke can be purchased. I guess that isn't appealing any more.
Erik Prince is my candidate for the person(s) behind Qanon. The Phoenix Program anyone? He was well within Trump's orbit and had the means, motive and opportunity... admitted to meeting with Israeli social media expert in Seychelles. The Q drops were heavily skewed towards the evangelical believers, though not complete enough to damage the system in place.
Don Jr. met with Erik Prince in August 2016 to discussing running targeted PSYOPs against the US Government. He also used Portland as a testing grounds for these types of operations. It's clear the RU and their allies (CN, PK, TK, BZ, NK, SY, UAE, SA, etc..) have been using Erik, his pal Steve Bannon, Mike Flynn, Trump family, and any weak minded corporate dark money donor to continue the classic 'Active Measures' Yuri Besmenove warned America about in 1984. Erik fits the psychological profile of a capitalist with an unsettled desire for more profit that will sell the rope from which they will hang. Ego blinds him from this psychological attack.
I'm fascinated by the motivation to believe farfetched theories. It's probably a combination of factors but wanting to be seen as a person "in the know" has to be high on the list.
As a video, this is actually performing slightly above average for this channel. The Q&As never wrack up as many views as debate videos unless the Q&A was with a very notable, publicly facing individual. As for the low attendance on campus, this session was during 1) the exam season, which almost always means a lower turnout, and 2) during summer, in which a lot of students will find other things to do unless they have a burning desire to see this person speak. Then again, Oxford (like any university) has a large politically liberal population who will have decided not to see someone like Mr. Prince speak. I, for one, feel more knowledgeable for having listened to this Q&A. As a war studies student, he is obviously an individual of note, and many academics vilify him in their writings. The comments section here shows why the work that OU do is more important now than ever. They are true defenders of free speech.
Amazing how the critics want to blame Erik Prince for 'war crimes' as through he was on the ground shooting people with his Blackwater contractors. How many of you have been in a real firefight, especially in an insurgency? Do you have any clue what it is like when you start taking fire in the midst of a bunch of civilians, you have no idea who is shooting at you and the insurgents have a nasty habit of using noncombatants as human shields? I am far more familiar with what it was (and is) like in Iraq and Afghanistan than most any of you, I guarantee you. A lot of the bad press that Erik Prince has received would have been written if he had walked on water, because he is a political conservative and because he has succeeded in doing difficult tasks against the enemies of the West, which in some eyes automatically makes him a 'bad guy'. You want men like him to protect you. It is a shame that you blame him on doing the things necessary to protect you from those people who would do you harm and take away the freedoms that you enjoy.
He wasn't on the ground killing people. But then again, no CEO does the dirty work -- they get their subordinates to do it for them. And I don't think fighting is the same as massacring. Shooting up innocent people in Baghdad isn't "doing the things necessary to protect you from those people who would do you harm and take away the freedoms that you enjoy".
That’s a lot of words to essentially say “war crimes against non-westerners is totally cool with me”. Oh, and America should never have been in either of those places in the first place. The idea that either county was ever powerful enough to “threaten America’s freedom” is an absolute joke. Since 9/11 your own government has put more effort into stripping you of your rights (regardless of whether they’ve been Democrats or Republicans) than the Taliban have ever done. Stop being such a bootlicker and wake up.
Why don't you grow a pair and stop licking his boots. He wasn't on the ground because he was in Washington collecting checks. You seem to forget the Saudis were behind 9-11. Going into Afghanistan didn't preserve American Freedom. It's was about military contractors cashing in and making a profit off killing. Stop your "conservative" rubbish. I put conservative in quotes because a true conservative minds their own business. We had no business being over there.
you can tell this guy literally thinks he's a deity, talking about how god sent his mercenaries to rescue people whilst making only small erroneous mass killings and filing bogus financial claims. if only there was more of him he says, then all the evil in the world could have been prevented he says. i trust him.

this class is clearly not just a history and liberal arts test. saying that, anyone who isn't mildly concerned about those united nations type comments should perhaps escalate a lil worry if mr. prince holds the same line whilst running for us president on a 2028 republican ticket (intercepted or not). unless magic donald can rustle up usa coupdetat attempt 2.0. whilst there may be obvious draws, assets and attractions that the simplicity of a military minded man can bring to bear on political office, i hardly think that the business ethic displayed by former president j. trump should act as the qualitative benchmark that would justify how the art of more serious deals would continue american democracy. maybe though, that's the point - this isn't about democracy. trump was more entertaining than dangerous. mr. prince is clearly not about the entertainment as forte. that all said, the big league of global billionaire boys clearly have something left to be settled and as mr. putin has his toys in the ukrainian pram and mr. prigozhin over in west africa and syria looking more of an acute threat than that. meantime, mr. xinping and mr. huning seem to be looking greedily at taiwan for starters with mr. kim and mr. khamenei each with seemingly something to get off their chests or shoulders... and it's not even 2023...

Admirable that Mr. Prince seeks to live a meaningful life, notwithstanding, monies. An inspiration.
Someone who realizes that their life will only have meaning if they have their own accomplishments rather than just living off of the accomplishments of others. Erik was smart to realize this and use his background to help him succeed, like Musk, but to carve his own path in the world.
His father found a company the machined parts for auto manufacturers. His sister married into the Amway founders

At the tail end of his talk Erik Prince mentions the Iran-Contra affair. At 55:42 he says, "And there was 20 covert action findings that were signed. One of whom, the one you heard about was the Iran-Contra,
which, after Congress went through all its noise, reauthorized that program." His claim is as erroneous as his grammar. Congress neither authorized nor reauthorized the Iran-Contra program. It was a secret
illegal and unconstitutional operation orchestrated by the National Security Council and Oliver North.
When the operation was exposed the American people were appalled. President Reagan's job approval
dropped 16%.
Thank you for your comment, will try to research the details so I can learn something
Yeah just like Nixon they were caught, and the neoconservatives reality has hit the population from their 80s bubble.
Who cares....lol

The circumstances in which war is justified are ALMOST nonexistent because it is NEARLY impossible to find circumstances in which large amounts of violence decrease total violence. It isn't enough to know that many people in a country are terrible, or a government is corrupt. Every country would always be at war if the standards were that low, because humanity is infinitely corrupt. Stop romanticizing killings just because some government gave it a stamp of approval.
Erik Prince for POTUS

Erik Prince is a patriot in the highest sense of the word. His devotion to country is unprecedented.

Close. Mike Flynn is Q.
Don Jr. met with Erik Prince in August 2016 to discussing running targeted PSYOPs against the US Government.

Fascinating as always - curious low attendance and video views?
Because he’s a war monger and profiteer and just an all round terrible person?
@@francisblincoe1315 thank you for your interesting observations

Exam time. He was at Oxford 8 years ago with much more attendance
Then don’t get into such a mess in the first place. Who asked the US to go into Iraq? Why did the US go into Iraq? Fictitious WMDs?
protect us from what? u dunce
Medhi Hasan cooked Prince real good in a video released 5 years ago. Shame this guy is applauded by any American.
