Wow excellent idea. I must say I might have more fertilizer than I can ever use. I always fear that I will propagate the weed seeds by leaving the weeds for a a couple of weeks in water then using the weeds as mulch. Your way is way better.

Hey Rhonda, thanks! Yes, most definitely... ANY foliage will do! I choose weeds specifically because they are so adept at pulling specific nutrients from the ground.. But spent foliage from your crops is also highly beneficial because now you're replacing what the crop has taken out directly..... Very smart!
I went to my local water store where they sell filtered water and water bottles and bought a replacement plastic spigot designed to fit a ceramic water pot for less than $2, drilled a hole in the bottom side of the bucket and attached that spigot to the bucket. The spigot came with all the necessady rubber seals to get a tight fit to the curved wall of the bucket. Now I can just upen the spigot and drain out some fertilizer liquid as needed without having to turn over the entire bucket to pour it out. Much cleaner and faster and I can leave the brew in the bucket to simmer and just add water to the bucket as needed to refill what I drained.

After you explained it made sense, even though I was told that weeds take out all the goodness in the soil it did not occur to me that the weeds could return some of the nutrients. Thanks once again
No grass clippings so I take also the weeds to ferment them. I have a invasion of the Pallenis maritima and other plants that like the clay and dry soil. They have really deep roots. I only put some microorganism and mollasses to the mix. It's because it does not smell bad and the mollasses is also good for the plants and has lots of minerals in it and the fermentation is faster but it's not a free fertilizer than. I can use it after 2 weeks.
3:19 Can you blend them with water in a blender? I love this fertilizer because it is vegan. Would I be able to grow a plant in coconut coir if I water it with this weed juice fertilizer? Would any outdoor weeds I find on the street create a good weed juice fertilizer? Would grocery store kale, dandelion, or other green produce create a good weed juice fertilizer, ignoring the cost?
Great questions melvina! Yes, you could use a blender, but its not necessary. The fermentation itself extracts the nutrients into the solution.....blending would make it faster, but would add a laborious task for no reason. I am doing some tests to see if you could grow exclusively in an inert mixture like coco fiber and use this weed extract or seaweed extract as its sole nutrient base....could be interesting.

I have 10 litre buckets with lids. Does is matter if the lid/cover is a tight seal on the bucket, or does the mixture need some air/oxygen to assist the process?

Amazing, just amazing! Again, unique and thought provoking content! Can you share your thoughts on composting, and leaf mold production to naturally enrich and amend our soil profiles? Thank you!! Time well spent!!
Thanks for the great info bro, I have a lot of tomato plants nearing the end of thier life, can I use them in the same way or is there another use for them?
100% you can Luke! Not just weeds, but ANY of the foliage from your spent crops can works....tomatoes, peppers....Peas and carrot tops work extremely well too! Buying chemical fertilizers is simply unnecessary now! :-)
Hmm...I've got a crap ton of English Ivy taking over the side of my house. The roots on some of those vines are thicker than my thumb! I now have more incentive to pull them off and turn it into plant food! If I did this not during the colder months, I'm assuming it will take longer to ferment? And would it be detrimental to let it sit through the winter?
Ivy would make a great fertilizer! Yes, when it's colder it'll have to sit longer. The great thing is, there's no time limit. You can let it sit for 2 years if you want. The nutrients aren't going to evaporate! :-)
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms just "harvested" my month old bucket of brew! This thing STANKS, but I'm excited to feed it to my plants! My brew has a white scum on the top though, is this a bad thing? I'm assuming it's from the plants not being 100% submerged 🤔
Its all just nutrients...I really believe that the disease is killed off during the process.....but if you're worried, there's plenty of weeds to able to avoid that!
Definitely. Weeds are an infinite resource....so its all about time and having large enough containers. This can EASILY be scaled up and already is when you look at the seaweed/kelp extract fertilizer industry. :-)
Seen you're on Vancouver Island! That's awesome same here 😄 Just wondering if it'd be beneficial to toss some unsulphered molasses in with the fermentation? Or even some active microbes (active em?) Or am I just overthinking it lol! This is a great idea and I can't wait to try!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms cheers for the reply! Awesome channel! Just subbed! Can't wait to use your tricks this year. Overthought alot of 2020 and spent way to much money on unnecessary stuff. No more!
Thanks for the video. In your video from 2 years ago, you only cut the foliar application in 1/4. In this video you did it at 1/10. Can you please tell me which one is best?
I found that I'm making the concentrate much more potent now. Its not quite like syrup, but definitely more viscous. Cutting by a quarter would just have it too strong. I think it would still work, but no way it needs to be that strong. My process is more concentrated because I'm really jamming the weeds in there, letting them ferment and break down!
I find that this water is a bit too much, even for mosquitoes kenzie. They might at first, but with the lid sealed and the weeds fermenting.....they just don't live very well in it!
Thanks again for the video fellow Canuck! So you basically do not need to waste money on chemical fertilizers that are mostly just NPK that are devoid of micro-nutrients, and cost a lot more money?
Hey Lynne, I sometimes make a ton at the end of summer for use the following year! It keeps and stores amazing. Remember, this is straight nutrients. Its not a compost tea with microbes and life.....its just elements and compounds.
***Should Curly Dock and dandelions not be included in your list of dynamic accumulators since those were the first couple of plants you were tugging out of the ground that had a big taproot?***
When I tried to put weeds pulled from the garden Into my makeshift compost bin, it seems as if they remained super resistant to decaying. When I thought they were dead and tried to bury them under some plants, the roots turned out to still be dormant and sprouted new weeds from the somehow still living roots😂. Damn these things are indestructible
Literally indestructible man!!! It's why I don't really use them as a mulch to refertilize the garden... Making this liquid fertilizer is much better! Cheers man
Oh definitely! Because its not a "microbe" solution like compost or worm tea, it really shouldn't go bad. Its a straight up extraction of elements and compounds....they don't expire! :-)
Yup....sugar for the microbes works great. I use this as a straight nutrient mix rather than a compost tea....so I save the molasses and other additives for that. Cheers!

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms just "harvested" my month old bucket of brew! This thing STANKS, but I'm excited to feed it to my plants! My brew has a white scum on the top though, is this a bad thing? I'm assuming it's from the plants not being 100% submerged 🤔
You know what would be cooler than making a free fertilizer...... making part three of the great onion slice reality vlog
Just like pyro's petscop 2😆
Horseradish grows a massive root and huge leaves. Would those leaves be considered a viable fertilizer possibility?
I lovr it can i addvto my strawberries plants its soil mircobes bro
Do you just put the spent foliage on the compost pile once you’ve fermented them. ☮️🇨🇦🥬🥕✌️🍆🌶
Definitely! Don't let it go to waste! If there's any solids left after you strain, put it on the compost for sure! :)
Wow. Thx for the tip. Can I ferment diseased plants or weed seeds?
Its all just nutrients...I really believe that the disease is killed off during the process.....but if you're worried, there's plenty of weeds to able to avoid that!
Gold❤
Liquid gold!
I just look for the darkest green weeds. You know those bad boys are sucking up the goodies
Yesssssssss!
how many days to just extract some nitrogen? waiting 6 weeks in a zone 3 area with 100 frost free days, can utilize maybe one full fermentation cyxle
What about the crabgrass and the Clover in the yard?
DEFINITELY! Those guys rock! 6 weeks of soaking......trust me, it works!
Any tips if a strainer that size is not available ?
Definitely...just run it through an old sock......strains it out beautifully! :-)
Anyway to scale this up to help combat the fertilizer crisis?
Definitely. Weeds are an infinite resource....so its all about time and having large enough containers. This can EASILY be scaled up and already is when you look at the seaweed/kelp extract fertilizer industry. :-)
Seen you're on Vancouver Island! That's awesome same here 😄
Just wondering if it'd be beneficial to toss some unsulphered molasses in with the fermentation? Or even some active microbes (active em?) Or am I just overthinking it lol! This is a great idea and I can't wait to try!
You're not wrong Jared! Molasses is great! I use it in my compost all the time! I plan to do a whole video on it soon. Cheers man!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms cheers for the reply! Awesome channel! Just subbed! Can't wait to use your tricks this year. Overthought alot of 2020 and spent way to much money on unnecessary stuff. No more!
Maybe leaf mold too. Indigenous microorganisms
Are the roots needed for the Fermentation
For some of them, I'm sure the roots are beneficial...but really the foliage is where its at! :-)
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms ok thank you. If I do 1/8 do you think that would damage my plants?
I have young seedlings ready to be transplanted. Tomatoes peppers cabbages broccli cauliflower
can we add sugar to the fertilizer to speed up the fermenting process?
CAN I MAKE THIS WITH LEAVES AND GRASS CLIPPINGS?
Do you have issues with mosquito larvae/ other bugs setting up shop in the water? I want to try this but I’m wary of the critters it might attract.
I find that this water is a bit too much, even for mosquitoes kenzie. They might at first, but with the lid sealed and the weeds fermenting.....they just don't live very well in it!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Okay, awesome! Thanks for the helpful tips! ✌️
Wow Second person here Also nice hack
Thanks! It really works! :-)
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Your welcome
Thanks again for the video fellow Canuck! So you basically do not need to waste money on chemical fertilizers that are mostly just NPK that are devoid of micro-nutrients, and cost a lot more money?
EXACTLY! And not only that, its better for your soil. So free, easy, readily available, AND better? No-brainer. ;-)
What zone are you in?
That’s a great question! I’ve wondered that as well. I’m in 8b. How about you?
@@FarmLifewithKids 4
I'm in Canada so we don't really have those zones, but if it was labelled, I would be in Zone 9b.
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms 9b?! In Canada? I'm in canada as well 4b. Are you in the tropical part of Canada ;p
Luv it
Thanks!
Can you keep this for a while to use? Or does it have to all be applied right away?
Hey Lynne, I sometimes make a ton at the end of summer for use the following year! It keeps and stores amazing. Remember, this is straight nutrients. Its not a compost tea with microbes and life.....its just elements and compounds.
Could this fertiliser be used in an aeroponics system?
For sure Marios, compost teas, seaweed fertilizers, and weed fertilizers work great in hydroponic/aeroponic systems!
@@TheRipeTomatoFarms Thanks for the speedy response. What concentration would you recommend?
@@mrm4rio keep it low to start with... 10 to 15% and work up from there
***Should Curly Dock and dandelions not be included in your list of dynamic accumulators since those were the first couple of plants you were tugging out of the ground that had a big taproot?***
You mean this is good for your garden, flowers.
VERY good for the garden and flowers...
I noticed you didn't use Leaf Mold. Is that not needed?
Not to make fertilizer, nope.
Cheers man
I have a major question
My plants normally don't do well because they lack some nutrients
If I use this fertilizer only... will my plants do well
Hey Richard, its all I ever use. It can do wonders man.
Thanks bro
At least now I can save my corn plant that's on the verge of destruction
And what happens if I use this everyday to water my plants
@@richardmanjo3646 best of luck Richard!!
hello I did this months ago can i still use it?
Oh definitely! Because its not a "microbe" solution like compost or worm tea, it really shouldn't go bad. Its a straight up extraction of elements and compounds....they don't expire! :-)
Thank you for the tips really appreciated it, but you can add molasses in it👍☺️☺️☺️❤️❤️❤️
Yup....sugar for the microbes works great. I use this as a straight nutrient mix rather than a compost tea....so I save the molasses and other additives for that. Cheers!
Omg im shock
I wish there was a prize! Maybe if I get sponsored there could be, ha ha!
