Beauty! UA-cam should feature this project!
Afrotechmods Stop commenting on other people's videos and upload a new video. Been waiting for a while :(
+Afrotechmods doubt that'll ever happen
Congrats Dave
I been waiting to
999 episodes. Only 25 more until you reach a nice round number...
Not sure about the 5 segment. The shape doesn't look like an upside down 2. It does look like an upside down actual 5 though. Factory rejects?
You know what might could make sense as a backing? PCB material with the right dimensions. Maybe even with a circuit on it. Maybe a giant discrete 555 timer behind the play button?
I'm fairly sure it is a 2 upside down
To me the 5 looks a bit like a flipped 2 rather than an upside down 2
Well, it's still the same rotation, just different axis
Goddamn, you _are_ a goddamned genius. I really like the idea of the whole backing being a PCB. Matte black solder mask of course.
I'm sure you mean only 24 more!
If UA-cam had a chart for enlightening, educational and extremely entertaining electrical engineering channels, Dave would be very close to the top, in my opinion.
Nice! I could get by with less than half the digits.
Looking forward to episode 1000!
I could get by with a single LED. Keep at it though 'cause I'm sure you'll get there. (If you can find one with big enough digits, maybe make your stats counter with a VFD. I love VFDs.)
Corgitronics subbed...😃
Episode 1000!, huh? That'll take _ages_ 🙃
"Don't hang it on the wall, take it apart!"
That is really cool and original Dave! Big thumbs up!
Eager to see what your (official) 1000th video will be about :)
Cool yes, but actually not that uncommon. Even nixie ones.
code123ns True (I have a Arduino controlled Nixie clock) but they're still cool ;)
I just like the idea since I like Nixie tubes and this just makes the award look nicer.
Dave, your channel has reached highs in my esteem and surely that of many people. I hope after all this time, that it's only a beginning.
"Where are you going now? Back to the future?"

Jesus Dave. You've forgotten more about this electronic stuff than I'll ever know. Your knowledge is quite impressive! Seriously glad I found this channel years ago!
Just graduated with my B.S in Electrical Engineering. Thanks for all that you do! It really helped me out!
Now all you need is a live webcam that looks at the Nixie subscriber counter in your lab 24/7 and streams it somewhere into the internet :-)
This is such a cool way of displaying both your sub count as well as the silver play button! Very cool Dave!!
This is awesome Dave, By far the coolest use of any library I've made for the ESP8266 so far!
It's actually kind of weird watching your video and seeing code that I wrote!
I am looking forward to seeing your 1,000th EEVblog episode! Good luck on infinitely more!
I remember the days back in 2010 of where youtube worked.... and being partnered was like being a GOD!
I love your ambition to get to prepare for 99,999,999 subscribers. This is an AWESOME project! This is the coolest thing I've seen done with the play button!
Dave, you know that if the counter is visible on your next live show I'll unsubscribe and subscribe just to amuse myself with a new level of interactive UA-cam :D We'll no doubt see 500k soon, best of luck with your next 1000 videos mate!
I'm sure Google will count that as "engagement" and it will help him (I think they do that for dislikes)
Next live broadcast Dave should give everyone a countdown to unsubscribe and then another to resubscribe - would give UA-cam and the counter time to catch up and we could see it happening. Prob would need to be at least 2 minutes from unsub to resub so everything could sync.
Spam proof just like btc.
Wow, this Nixies even still have a visible USSR quality mark on their sides! Amazing.
Congratulations, Dave. Big fan here. I've learned alot watching your show. Keep on being Dave, teacher of electricity. My hat is off to you sir. Peace. Oooooo the triple 5 timer, oooooo.
I've seen a lot of custom play button videos and this one is by far the best one I've seen yet. brilliant idea and beautiful work. well done.
looking forward to what you have in store for the gold button when it arrives.
thanks for all the hard work you've put into this channel.
Good on ya mate! I especially love the effect you get by adding that bit of code at the end. What a bobbydazzler!
the video came as a thrilling climax to your nixi tube series. nice.
Good on yer mate, you should get the unique award. Thanks for all the top stuff Dave.
That counter is just AMAZING, i don't know how you intend to overcome that look when you have the button for a million subscribers.
Congrats Dave and thank you for your videos. Greetings from New Mexico,USA. ♡♥♡♥♡
Very cool and very clever. Much nicer than the original and quite appropriate for an electronics channel.
Congratulations, Dave.
ALMOST THERE!!! Episode 1000 better be VERY special!
Pretty optimistic with that eighth digit...
ophello It was just so it would fit perfectly
ophello consider it a preventive apocalypse scenario measure to avoid having to make another box if he ever crosses the million subscriber mark.
Ya never know when your frequency counter's 7 segment displays will kick the bucket and need to be replaced by some gorgeous nixie tubes. Don't want to sacrifice digits in that case ;)
100K? My channel is still long way from the first 100 (one hundred!)...
Nice counter! Beautiful style and fantastic idea to merge it with your award. Wish I had one just like that!
BTW. It's great that you made individual video's of each step to make this counter. The end result is a very professional build and the video's teach other makers how to get to such an achievement. Well done!
Now you just need a 24/7 webcam on it lol.
Looks fantastic Dave, well done.
Nice creative touch Dave, I'm happy to contribute to your golden play button mate)
Excellent job Dave!!!
You should have the back panel laser cut to fit around the nixies. It looks a bit sloppy with the gap around them.
rocketman221projects Yeah! Building a nice housing was never Dave's strength. However, it still looks good.
William Hutchinson What if Eevblog just tried to put a strip of black foam sealer around the edges of the pic frame he cut...? I'm not saying it'd be as perfect, but it'd sure be a LOT neater around the edges of the original backing...? And...actually, that could look pretty much as good as a laser cut I'd think...in a different way of course...?
Get on it Dave!!!
+T. T. Miller Wouldn't that strip you out of the joy of laser cutting?
Or with his CNC, it could be a video for David2
I've always wanted to do something with nixie tubes. now I will.
well done dave! i think for a quality channel with decent brainiac content, you're right at the top. and you're a human being too with a bright personality. dont ever change.
Looking forward to EEVblog #1000! Make it a special video Dave.
Cool stuff Dave. I could of sworn you were going to make a Delorean time computer display with those nixies.
I've just realized that I've watched more than 1000 EEVBlog1&2 videos, I've been subscribed since you had I think 12 or 13 videos :D keep up Dave, good on ya!
Dave, i guess you are working on # ONE THOUSAND , happy bday.
Nice! One next idea, let the arrow glow white and the border glow red when there are 100 subscribers or more. Must be possible with some bright LED's, however I don't the construction of the plastic button. Got here some plastic that looks like a mirror but with some LED's behind you are able to see the LED. This is from an old DVD recorder of panasonic that hides the VFD. Beauty!
Great achievement and video Dave. Well done and congratulations.
Excellent work Dave.
Nice job Dave! But I'd cut the holes in that gray plate in such a way so that those nixie tubes would fit perfectly.
That is super awesome Dave. I've been a subscriber for a few years now, and can confirm you deserve it mate. Still one of my favourite UA-camrs.
To infinity and beyond!
Next project: the golden play button!
Keep up the good work Dave.
Vy 73 de CT7AFR, Emmanuel.
Superb work Dave! Love it!
so you just received your 100k subscriber trophy (2 years late) and you decided to try if your nixie board would fit, and surprise, it fits like if it was designed for it! I'm sure you've been preparing all the way for video 999. can't wait to see what you have for video 1000
You'll hit 500k soon and need the next award. That'll probably take them another 2 years.
Darker background is a definite improvement - not to mention adding the electronics of course!
Counts to 99,999,999, love the confidence.
Awesome! looks great Dave. Big thumbs up!
Brilliant! That box looks absolutely awesome, Sire! And what a perfect content for #999 either!
Brilliant, AVE needs this addition for his 'Silver' thingy😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nice to see you finish a project ;) looks good
Thanks for adding the "slot machine" routine and suppressing the leading zeros.
gotta love Dave's honesty with stuff, only he would state the truth about products if he doesn't like them, so bluntly " yea pretty crappy glue quality" lol
I'm also building a subscriber count project with the Wemos D1 Mini. I don't have a UA-cam Play Button yet though and I'll only use some cheap LCD instead but I'll probably power it with a powerbank for true wireless awesomeness.
Great project EEVBlog and more power!
congrats, you are now officially an artist.
Nice Job. Pretty awesome accomplishment Love the upgrade.
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about! Beautiful. Just beautiful. ;)
Super cool! This is the kind of thing that should be on trending, not all this youtube drama
It may sound odd, but i like the nixie tubes more than the button.
Chunky and plesent to read :-D
Thanks for the shout-out on Twitter Dave!! That was awesome! Nice video BTW.
Future Dave bought me here, cheers!!
congrats Dave. a nice reward for all your hard work and dedication.
SUch a cool idea to add the Nixie counter to the award. Keep up the good work and you'll be at gold in no time
Congrats Dave! And make sure now you are always in the right world line, and return the IBN 5100... khmmm... the HP 85 to the past! (sorry, I had to make a Steins;Gate reference)
Congrats Dave
Awesome Dave! One of my favourite builds on UA-cam. 👍
Hi Dave! Use the black marker in place of the cut to remove the yellow cardboard.
Love your work, Dave. Best wishes with the next 999 videos.
love them tubes, really smart.
I recently thought of making something just like this to track subs so looking forward watching this one!
Awesome, that explains why you made all those videos about making a nixie board.
And...there you go fine sir...I just made your counter go up by one like I just said too :) And you are seriously a really cool guy in my book here for real...
Its cool Dave! We are waiting for something special on 1K episode. Wish you all the very best to grow your channel with few million subscribers. 100M would even be better so that this counter crashes at its will.
Awesome idea Dave
I like it! Keep up the good work Dave.
Simply wow. May you see over 99,999,999
I love them tubes.
Great ending to the series!
Wow, I didn't know nixie tubes were real things. It's like the countdown timer in FF7.
That's fantastic, and it was a lot of fun watching the videos for each step along the way too. Thank you.
BTW, too bad you didn't have room for one more nixie tube so that you could have the display alternate between your subscriber count and total view count. I mean, you _could_ do that now, but you're so close to 100,000,000 that it would be useful for only a few months. Anyway, all the best.
Yeah, I wanted that, but they just didn't fit.
@@EEVblog is there a way to contact you about this project??
that is truly gorgeous!
Dave, this is just awesome =) Thanks
Great Series.
turned out nice, Dave!
Great video... Great story...
I reckon red back will be nice for button itself with dark bottom under digits. And probably I'd prefer to put button a bit higher.
That would make a great kit.
VERY, VERY, VERY COOL!
what a beauty. just looks truly stunning.
#1000 is next :o
brilliant idea
Hey Dave, when you hit 500,000 subscribers, make a giant Nixie tube display using IN-18 tubes, or some of those badass tubes that Dalibor Farney makes.
Great Dave! Nice Job!
Bloody brilliant!
CLEVER Aussie bloke!
Simply beautiful Dave, very beautiful, I love the Nixie tubes :)
Aha - you had that button for quite some time and made that nixie prject directly for it. gotcha....
Cara Carcass Umm no, he got those 8 nixie tubes from a fan actually...he showed getting them in one of his mailbag vids...at first I THINK he said he had only 1 or just a few nixie tubes before the fan sent those 8...
belated congrats
Loose awesome with the Nixie counter :D
