Nestled within a peaceful suburb of Hyderabad, the site was a challenge as it had residential units on three sides with restricted viewpoints, creating obstacles to lighting, ventilation and hindering indoor air quality.
Inspired by the ancient Chettinad Architecture, the design had to accommodate the playfulness of children, the rigour of the middle-aged and the grace of retirement into a single-family unit along with a courtyard that created a balance between the built and unbuilt spaces.
Principal Architects Shashank Rao and Anmisha Reddy of Urban Narratives explain the design philosophy of this beautiful house with a courtyard in Telangana.

Thank you for the wonderful designs that you present here. It would be great to see some designs that use arches and vaults with brick/stone with minimal use of cement. Designs that use gravity to hold the sturcture together instead of flat beams and columns.

I never realised what incredibly creative architects you have in India. The best building philosophy i have come across so far - sustainabily, social aspects, choice of materials - they are all brought together beautifully so laymen like me can appreciate what it is all about. Credit must go as well to the builders and contractors and craftsmen who manage to realise the concepts into finished products! I wish I had the means to commission a building (with Indian craftsmen and builders) for my own patch back in Zambia from Buildofy experts.
