How China developed its first large domestic airliner designed to take on Boeing and Airbus
Вставка

- A state-owned Chinese aircraft manufacturer designed the first-ever large commercial jetliner, the C919, with the goal of one day dominating the aerospace industry. A look at how the plane was developed reveals how China acquired sensitive aviation technology through legal and illegal means. Kris Van Cleave reports.

No one forced the US to want to sell to 1.4 billion people in China. Don't blame the player, blame the game.
ikr cant believe they are brainwashing people with this reason. They called this spay craft this is so cringed
Wrong!
CCP sent secret agents into America decades ago. They all managed to become CEOs and directors of US corporations
They then moved factories to China
The CCP will continue to steal technology.
@PdoPtr Exactly! China learned from us
@PdoPtr China had and has issued Visa for Taiwanese chips to land at Huawei "international" airport. ............
"The C919 looks like an A320 or a Boeing 737..." how else do they want you to make it??? Delta wings? Canards? As much as I have my misgivings for the Chinese government this is just fearmongering at this point. Nobody accuses the Irkut MC-21 or A220 for looking "similar."
the design has better looks than 737 and Airbus.
A220 original project is basically a copy of A320 but for Canada and Regional Jet Airline, but hey Airbus just bought it 💀 and perhaps planning it on selling that jet across American Region to make Boeing shaken
MC-21 is by far not surprising of A320 carbon copy design as Airbus too assisted Russian commercial project, Russia happened to be bipolar European Asian and Airbus favours anything European.
It was Airbus plan all along to make Boeing appeared loser in a commercial aircraft competition, what makes Boeing superior to Airbus thanks to its knowledge design for Military and anything defence (in which Airbus lacking rn). Not to mention Boeing enormous contracts with NASA, also Airbus lacked
Why is the US always threatened by China’s progress? The whole world wants progress but, the US is always dreadful of it as long as it is not happening on the US soil. Enough.
China steals technology from many nations: Russia, India, etc
Because the CCP is a cheat
Simply because US might lose it's power to China on the game of this kind of competition.
Because China doesn't play fair, doesn't abide by international rules, and steals technology from the West. China is the biggest manufacturer of counterfeit products in the world and the US is the hardest hit because many of these brands are American-owned. China's progress is at the expense of the American companies. Wake up!
In fact we want China and other countries around the world to make even more things not just this airliner, but more and more bigger things so that the US stops this nonsense of entitlement mentality like a spoiled kid.
As a non-American layman, I'm really glad to see some diversification in this aviation industry and technology.
We should celebrate that high tech areas are breaking off of the US/Western Eyropean monopoly.
It's about time we break this perpetual chain of Western dominance.
The US destroyed Japan airplane
⚠️🇺🇲⚠️ the USA wants the consumers market and cheap labor of China for free? I'm glad China is not buying Boeing death trap plans. More money for French Airbus!
If they can build High speed train they can build a jet.
Nah. Both poles apart. They did steal the tech but I don't blame them. It's give and take. West cannot just keep benefitting all the time. Also there is a saying, pet a snake and get bitten.
If having to follow the rules of another market is "Forced Technology Transfer" then that's what the US is doing to Taiwan by "forcing" TSMC to transfer its 3nm node to America.
Like they did with japan
@@jbird6561 between 80-90s..
The US stole all its early technology from Europe. At the end of WW2 they siphoned up all the German technology. And for all this they paid not a cent. China bought technology fair and square - and then thought about it and improved upon it. Well done China!
How dare they develop a passenger jet that looks like a passenger jet...
Matt, oh, Matt, how else does a passenger plane look like if there are only 2 engines, 2 wings, one fuselage, one tail, etc.
We, Americans think that God has bestowed on us the technology that we owned, Anyone who has caught up on technology has to be put down. If theta does not happen, we will destroy whatever gets in our way. Make no mistake on this factoid. Like Biden said, "Not on my watch."
America fears competition.
... Not at all, 1970 it experieced with goods from Japan, 1960 it ever deal with USSR's space program. .....
... At least, America rode horses to compete with red Indians. One thing US never win is refugees from Mexico. ..........
😅😅
Boeing is basically a company that should be driven out of market through competition if not for the fact that they had huge government military contracts
No, We disrespect thieves though!
That is a very accurate observation. America is shaking in its boots when they see a C919.
The cliche that whatever China designs, it looks like a knockoff of some American design is just pure ignorance. An engineer will never make such a comparison simply because the laws of physics apply universally for everyone including the Chinese. That is why all stealth fighters look similar, all aircraft carriers look similar, all Formula 1 racing cars look similar, all submarines look similar, and all jet airliners look similar!
Every single modern airliner look the same but when China makes one it is a copy?
What were they supposed to do, make it square with backwards wings ?
They have the shape they do for a reason..
😂😂😂
I thinking samr 😂
Spot on. Glad people are picking up on the anti China pro war propaganda now because people wasn't to begin with.
... At least, Comac asked the Airbus for knowhow of avionics in a cockpit. Instruments and LCDs in 919 looks so crude. Search in google for the pics.
Lol nobody care about shape...but how avionics, material, engines etc how it is just a copy or looted.
US: The world should just keep buying planes from Boeing.
... And also Microsoft OS, Oracle, AutoCad, Photoshop, Cisco routers, Lockheed Martin, Starlink service, Outback, Sizzler, Mc Donald, KFC, Coke, Pepsi, Kraft, Netflix, Tom Cruise'a films, Hollywood, iPhone100, Garmin
... Holiday Inn, Hyatt, Hilton, Sheraton, 3M, Parker, 2Johnson, Pfizer, Moderna, John deer, Caterpillar, Monzanto ....
... Tuition fee for Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Berkeley, MIT. ....
It's pretty sad that American media are this insecure. It's called manufacturing consent.. for what? We all know that!
It's really sad, sad, sad! These people are scared excretaless.
It is not "force acknowledged transfer" when you freely agree to it! How can you say this on national TV!
Meanwhile, Boeing and Airbus worked together and killed Bombardier's commercial aviation division.
But Bombardier is still very much alive?
@@blueresolve2954 Yes, but exited the commercial aviation sector. I shall be more specific.
The world is reducing reliance on the USA
Cheap and reliable,why not?
China already has much MUCH better weapons and higher technology than the USA ❤
Fair competition is fine
Reliability is not proven. Why trumpet it prematurely?
Well, as long as you allocate billions of dollars into research and development, and hire talented people who are well educated in STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), anything is possible. This is how China is quickly becoming a leader in artificial intelligence, microchip, space technology, robotics, virtual reality, computer and electronics, military tech, EV and drones and even fusion energy.
Majority of the plane is made of American made components. How is that innovation?
@@life.goes. Apple's iPhone is made with parts from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and other places. Toyota cars are assembled with parts from many suppliers. Do you think Apple and Toyota do not know how to innovate? And please define "Majority of the plane". The plane is made in China. The engine is imported. Some parts are made in China under license.
@@handyman8764 China has no qualms in stealing technology. Why bother with innovation? If they were so smart and cutting edge, how come even with the billion+ population they haven't figured out unlimited energy technology and built actual humanoid robots, and more, yet? At least then there would not be any contention.
@@life.goes. because they made it cheaper, the labor costs a lot cheaper there. that's the only thing I can think of. Other than that, most components are imported from the US.
@@handyman8764 Most of the products now are made that way, from different countries.
I thought the US was big on free trade and market competition, what's the fear?
not a forced tech transfer when you signed the deal. nobody pointed a gun to your head
If Brazil can build a Jetliner like the Embraer Ejet E-195 which similar to 737.
Well then China definitely can build one to. So China built C919 which similar to 737.
these countries eventually figured out that Boeing and Airbus, Just buys parts from different Suppliers and Assembles these Jets.
Nobody has built anything like the 737. It's too outdated
its closer to an a320 than a 737
The Ejet is more similar to an Airbus A220 formally the Bombardier C-series.
This plane looks more like the A320 than a Boeing 737.
CBS is an American channel
... Of course, it asked for knowhow from Airbus. .......
That's because Airbus was COMAC's partner in building it.
They have another jet model which looks like a DC 9.
Why not? It should look like the successful, existing ones.Chinese or indeed any other nation's scientists should not re-invent the wheel.
thank you China, now prices can be cheaper
I can sense so much hatred for the Chinese in this video. Why?
because the West is feeling the reality of decline
It has been American white racism that has been with the country since its founding and it is still alive and well. Don't you get it?
Humm because American media and government is making it so.
Because they can’t send their bankers, military ‘advisers’ and missionary into China.
Because competitions get some governments and people scared.
Lol is America accusing of other spying?
Not spying, stealing. Not smart enough for their one designs. Chinese cheap rip offs
@@paulw2872 like how the entire America was stolen? 😂
@@paulw2872 If it's a cheap knockoff then Airbus and Boeing have nothing to worry about
@@paulw2872 fun fact one of the founder of Boeing is Wong Tsu. He was accused of being a spy so he went back to China and designed aircrafts there. 👍
@@holycow343 butbwere they wrong?
Everything China does, America make it about them.😂
Airbus are investing and building new factories in China, despite the hype.
Watch how those Airbus factories will be closed after the Chinese have 'acquired' enough knowhow from Airbus and they are no longer needed in the country as all the learnings will then be put into COMAC's planes.
@@MithunOnTheNet Did GMs Factories in China close? after Chinese have 'acquired' enough knowhow? No
Did Fords Factories in China close? after Chinese have 'acquired' enough knowhow? No

Damn America just keep losing
All planes look the same due to aerodynamics modelings. Now China designs one and it’s a copy ? Ridiculous
😂😂😂😂Why do they sound so mad at China....
I don’t think they copied A320 or 737! China has invested a lot in technology! I was impressed by their high speed train while I was traveling in China a few years ago!
Most of the plane's components are US made
I agree, I think Americans can't handle that China is very innovative and taking over the global economy. I love the Xiaomi products btw
Ah yes, the knock-off German/Japanese high-speed train.
@@tjeuvreeburg2347 I love Xiaomi too. I use one.
But have you thought that one of the overarching appeal / features of Xiaomi - and the reason for its dominance is that it runs on Android (An American product)?

Half of the scientist in cutting edge technology companies ( aerospace, satellite, telecoms, and last but not the least medical) are Chinese. This is a fact.

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again, Cold War two is coming.

one thirth engineers in chatgpt are chinese.
Graduates from USA Universities.
Why America love to says every technology is from them.? Jet engine wasn't invented in US nor swept wing designed and the names goes on...
The first Engineer of Boeing Airplane was a Chinese:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wong_Tsu
And the telephone wasn't invented by Alexander Graham Bell, but rather Antonio Muicci. Electricity was invented by Golvani/Volta & revolutionized by Nikola Tesla.
The C919 is built primarily for the Chinese market. It will be a while before the type is sold overseas. They type can compete with both the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, but a reliable technical support network is key to dominating any aviation market. Why buy a plane you can't fix?
Beavers exist all over the world, and all make the same dam...
After reviewing the comments , I find out that lots of people have been tired of Boeing or airbus manufacturing.
The US President should fly in one of them to prove how safe they are.
We have to be willing to let Boeing or Airbus fail if competitors produce better products.
We somehow ways have to find a way to make it about US military.
Curiously, 99% of the comments are criticism of the United States.
The media LOL... If the Chinese can build a space station on its own, and can build the worlds longest high-speed rail network in 10 years, they can of course assemble a jet from US-sourced components...
Why is AmeriKKKa so jealous of China?!?!? Lawd...
Everything here is speculation and yellow peril rhetoric...
I feel jealousy😂
Yes China is very jealous. They have to steal everything. No original thoughts.
Cheaper better plane in a monopolized market is great news for the world 🎉
Bad news for Airbus and Boeing.
Chinese people are smart fact
This is a very high quality P.atform and one that unique in the World has made it this far in the development cycle such that this could start reaching select domestic markets presumably upon the Middle East and Great Britain/Europe.
That's about it though. The USA simply is not going to move beyond the Airbus Boeing Duopoly given the persona non grata status all of China be in at the moment. I don't see Germany moving in this direction either.
According to data released by the US Congressional Research Service, from 1789 to 2022, the United States launched 469 military interventions oversea:s. In the short 30 years since the end of the Cold War, it has launched 251 times, far exceeding the number of more than 190 years before the end of the Cold War.
Who supplies the engines and technology, U.S. or Europe?
Free market and competition rules are good when we are the only player! Good for China.
Literally all airlines look similar to this, I bet if you were to get a US airliner and a China airliner and took off all the paint and languages you wouldn't be able to tell the difference
No such thing as "forced technology transfer"...you have no entitlement to THEIR MARKETPLACE. NONE! No such thing as forced technology transfer...don't like the rules of the deal? Walk away! No one is forcing you! Such liars!!!
It's fact that china developed the indigenous aircraft.
The idea of patent right and intellectual property is unwise. it holds down the USA. PEOPLE LEARN and improve on your idea leaving you out. But if cooperation is enhanced the world grows. It's quite possible that the USA and Europe will be left behind. It's vicious to label Chinese as theives despite the fact that they are moving forward with progress 😂😂☺
Who invented airplane? Ans: Whright brother....😂😂😂😂
and America is jealous
Feeling bad?😢
It all started with Panda Express 😂
They sure did sideline boeing but they are still ordering more and more from airbus. Airbus is opening new factory to meet demands. Its coz of sanctions, boeing had to suffer loss. And how is it a copy?? What should be the design of new plane??? Who made first aircraft and helicopter??
"Forced technology Transfer"? Is this also similarly the American definition of "Forced Labor"?
Good choice of music.
It’s important that China develops and sources parts from with China asap
Lol ! an original Chinese plane is supposed to be chair shaped not looking like an Airbus
The ancient Chinese and Egyptians invented the firsts plains 😊

funny thing, Boeing and Airbus got assembly lines in China. So Boeing and Airbus demise will be their own doing too.

Armed guards couldn't force me to set foot on that plane
Just like EVs how about 1/3rd cheaper chinese planes. In 20 years once chinese planes are proven, imagine the fate of Boeing and Airbus.
Those Chinese really know what they’re doing.
That’s not smart thing to do, giving our technology to another countries is why we falling behind in the long term.
No matter what believe me the US Boeing is one of the best-known Boeing planes came alone around the world.
It has more American components than it's own. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Then how is it Domestic ??
well, most americans products aren't fully produced in US, they sometimes assemble or just sell them. For ex.tesla,I phones and lol even I have two american flags made in vietnam. Chinese are using this trick and it is actually called building domestic because all these parts are assembled in china(I phone parts are made in china but assembled in california)
“Forced techology transfer” lmao bro wtf
That’s what responsible leaders of a country should do so they can aim to be able to build there own products in the future wether It’s trains airplanes or any other technologies smfh
Import substitution is good enough
Yea right with LEAP Engines made in America and France and the MAJORITY of the parts made in Western countries. It's just assembled in China
All major parts/components of C919 is not from China.
It looks like an airbus a320 smh
Who care as long as COMAC doesn't fall off the sky as Boeing and Airbus people would be at peace and happy.

what about the german aviation technology that the US stolen in WW2 🤫
Rare minerals plenty in 🌏 Asia...
Don’t buy it if you don’t like it

You want them to put 4 turbines on the tail ilyushin style to stand out or something
Like it's gonna be similiar to either one or the other
Comac c919 use cfm leap 1-c...
It is a good thing for except the United States and Europe, and it provides more choices for other countries. There are not only Europe and the United States in the world. The world order is not the domestic law of the United States.

I don't know why the media always shows the news by calling it a competition. They have huge demand and population to cater so its understandable for them to have their own local made planes which would also cost them less as well. 🤷♂️
It is both GEOPOLITICAL competition as well as commercial competition and the US do genuinely fear these facts as they are barely hanging on to he hegemonic status.

Who would want to fly a Chinese airplane ✈️
actually qatar , saudi etc should sipport comac . remove duopoly of airbus and Boeing
america crying about china copying their tech is like china crying because the entire world stole gunpowder from them.
Just like recent news about Thailand, want China to transfer some of the key technology if they want to build highway system in Thailand, China also used its market to exchange foreign technology plus transfer. This is called manufacturer consent. It is legal! it’s not forced transfer of technology, nor stealing you fool! Besides, C919 is made with 60% of foreign parts. Majority of them are US sourced! Under it’s very common to have a global source to manufacture, in essence this is not a Chinese airplane! It’s an international plane!
China could have worked with other companies instead like Bombardier, or Embraer or Russia among many other countries and companies
this good for consumer, why US very angry abt that? :P
i really hope Embraer, Bombardier, COMAC, Russian and Japan aircraft manufacturer can make more aircraft :)
waiting time for buying new aircraft from boeing & airbus is 5-10 years right?
