Sorry. This video might be a bit too intense for some. I should've put a warning.
These gouramis usually fight here and there, and their fins get ripped sometimes. Usually, they heal back and everything is fine. The filming of the baby attacking the injured one and me taking out the injured one all happened on the same day, within 15 minutes or so. I was filming and I screamed a little and took him out. I don't know to what extent they had fought while I wasn't around all day. I was going to take out the baby, but I thought it was a male so I didn't put "him" in the female tank. That's why I took out the injured one. Usually, if you take out a injured fish and put him in another tank, it can be harder for him to heal b/c the water is different. That's why I was hesitant on taking out the injured one days before. I thought the fighting would subside and everything would go back to normal. I didn't know the baby gourami would be that tenacious. Before this, no gourami fight had resulted in a fish death in this tank. (Well, except for that one that jumped out in the other tank.) I never thought a baby gourami would injure a full grown male enough to be fatal.

I understand! I keed betta sorority with about 25 betta females together at the same tank and as a rule I have to remove any bully or any victimized fish as soon as I see serious fights. It is a rule. Very often scared victims (usually most shy and nervous of them all) later go crazy with aggression as self-defense reaction and cause a lot of troubles as well as bullies. I believe that's what happened with the baby. Some fish are just not a group material. I usually give such fish away when possible to live alone (always with a warning about their temper) or keep it in a separate jar/small tank.

Those little plastic floating in-tank fry tanks are good for this case. For a few bucks, you can have it around just in case next time happens and the injured or aggressive fish can stay in the same water perameters.

When the baby one was accidentally taken out of the tank via water changes it didn't succumb to stress and die like a normal gourami would have. Instead it was forged in the hostile and unwelcoming waters, living off of only the scraps that were inadvertantly added to the jar with her. When it was finally noticed by the tank god and returned into the normal tank the baby gourami would not be allowed to rest. It faced not only the drastic water change but also the tragic harassement by her better groomed and healthier older siblings. This pride was not to go unpunished. The baby gourami then bided its' time, training and channeling its' rage as the others feasted on water fleas and shrimp. She has known nothing but suffering and hardship, and the first thing she felt after returning to her home was hostility and arrogance. She now feels no stronger desire than revenge. And she would have it.
One day and to the other gourami's surprise the baby gourami started to stand its' ground. After trading pecks with the older gourami it came to know victory. Success radiated upon the battered baby for the first time in its' cruel life. And it would have *more*. From here on the gourami would not relent in her expansion, destroying previous borders and establishing her own. The other gouramis would of course retaliate, but what could they do against the baby's unbridled rage and hatred? She bent the other gourami's will with her strength, their arrogance crumbled under her fin. Eventually the whole tank was hers, none would dare object her rule. But she lusted for blood. One of the other gouramis, once fat and lazy, now beaten and defeated, was a favorite of hers to terrorize. Every nip he'd give her all those nights ago came back to him as dozens of relentless beatings and thrashings. The old and once proud fish grew frightened and emaciated. It could not withstand this punishment much longer. And all his brother could do was watch. The merciful hand god removed the tortured male and allowed him to live out his few remaining days in peace.
The baby gourami is now the queen, the whole tank belongs to her and her alone. What pitiful land would feel the maw of her unchecked fury next? Only time would tell...

Once gourami decide they want to own a space, especially in a tank this small, they will force all of the others out and the non-aggressive ones will hide since they have no where else to go. I had the unfortunate chance to have two gourami who lived happily for 6 months then suddenly one of the two became super aggressive and killed the other within a day. Before that they never pecked or attacked each other.

Keeping the lights off for a couple of days can sometimes "reset" behavioral issues like this baby gourami asserting dominance. It's much more effective when combined with changing the hardscape, but... well, you have none. Still, the lights idea may be worth a try.

I usually love these videos, but this one was kind of a bummer. The males shouldn’t have been kept together, especially once one started to injure/harass the others.

All the fighting took place over about 15 minutes (see his latest comment, pinned at the top) which is a reasonable amount of time to decide whether it was a one time dispute or an overly aggressive fish.

Doggo Luz Smaller fish that can’t be swallowed almost always win. They tear the fins so they cant swim and die just like what happened here. I know someone with a blue cichlid that killed an arowana and other fish in his big tank cuz it would rip their fins apart until they die of starvation and stress. All about speed in the fish kingdom

Well, maybe that is why nature is cruel, and mostly we had to see but not change it. BBC documentary doing the same thing.
btw the younger one was being bullied for a while, i scared it would dead killing by the elders, that was tough time for me.
Don’t feel sad when they died, if u really care lives, at least don’t judge it while it facing death, because whatever it takes, it will happens.

Have you not been watching over the past few videos or are you being emotional about this whole thing? The fish was being "bullied" for the longest time before she found her "power" to stand up for her self. To me her ego was too big for her own good and it cost the male fish his life but where would this not happen? When you finally stand for yourself how you let that affect you can determine you next action. Clearly her level was keep attacking and taking territory which would have resulted (if left unchecked) her killing the males before she realized she need to procreate or calming down by realizing it sooner

    • @GSP-76
      @GSP-76 5 років тому +9

This is how it goes in fish tanks...I have a huge 150g African cichlid tank full of adults...they are extremely aggressive and territorial...one time, a 6 inch fish (2nd biggest in the tank) got into it with a smaller fish (about 4-5 inches)...I saw the bigger fish had lost some scales and was slightly injured but thought he'd be fine...next day, he was dead and shredded up... unless you can constantly keep another tank that has it's own filter, meds, etc, you can't do much...a small clay pot would help for hiding but I'm guessing that this particular tank is meant to be all natural with no artificial additions.

I hope you took that baby out. It's not good he dominated the tank like that. I feel bad of the other fish. I do not understand why you would let it keep beating up your fish like that. You are pretty much killing the other fish. I love these videos, but in my eyes this is close to abuse. You know it's aggressive, everyone else suffers, then you should remove the bully fish.

I really hope that you are agreeing with me and this is not a sarcastic remark. After the first attack, I would have removed the bully fish. It's always good to have a back up plan when you are housing aggressive fish. I have 4 m Angel fish. They all came from the same store same tank. I watched them for 20 minutes. The 4 I took where the 4 that stuck together. They are in a 40 breeder well panted, and plenty of spots to hide. I have one that is aggressive. It hasn't bitten anyone yet. I have a 20 long that is pretty much open I only have a handful of platy that I kept for a special breeding project. This one Angel fish might find his way in there. If I have 2 that pair off I have another 30 gallon rolling with guppies for the other fish to live in. I stocked these tanks like this with the assumption things might not work out. It comes down to breaking up all 4 I have a plan for that as well
